Superior Phantom ships/weapons - hornet - 03-16-2009 Eh 0% for me its not the ships or the weapons its the pilots. If you can't hit the anything, what good is the weapon or fighter your using. Superior Phantom ships/weapons - Varyag - 03-16-2009 No matter if I "get" the phantoms.... I must say that Blodo hit it right on the head. Directly, and to the point. /signed Superior Phantom ships/weapons - Rudo - 03-16-2009 I've got nothing against the Phantoms aside from a couple grudging experiences of 'roleplay' I won't get into. Water under the bridge. The only gripe I will air out is the disturbing trend to write roleplay to gain access to the best equipment in the game. I've seen a lot of Special RP Requests to fly Catamarans. I have yet to see someone place a special request to fly a Werewolf (pre-buff, it's a pvp monster now) or Waran bomber. If it's about the roleplay, then the ship's actual performance shouldn't matter. Someone said that no one has complained about the Huntress, but the Phantoms probably won't even use it because it's a bad ship. This is very much along the lines of my previous point. If there's a roleplay need, use the thing. Or will there be a special request to 'steal and murder and eat the crew of a Hessian Cruiser' in the future? Phantoms are far from the worst perpetrators of this abuse of special roleplay privileges, but this request for more buffs because they're supposed to be a leet cyborg strike force who can kill everything outside insurmountible odds just smacks of more of the same. Everyone's guns got a boost this version. Phantoms got exclusive access to some great ships to use more of these guns. I'm of the opinion that this is enough. Superior Phantom ships/weapons - Orin - 03-16-2009 Actually, within RP it would make a little more sense for their technology to be slightly advanced in comparison with others, so I would say a small advantage. 5-10%. That way it wouldn't create some broken wall of superiority, just a slight difference. I will point out, as the only Phantom flying a Cat, and the only one that did for more than a week in 4.84, that we only have one. I went through the special rp request. I also had another special ship in 4.84. My Rogue did forum RP to get a Warren bomber. The only reason I didnt put a special rp for it was I was told by the admins it wasnt necessary. I fly the ship that my rp dictates, whether good or bad. The issue is that the Phantoms rp dictates top of the line ships and guns, so it is in fact about the roleplay. Superior Phantom ships/weapons - tansytansey - 03-16-2009 Don't rely on the abilities of your machine. Take what you got and make it work for you. 0% Phantom fighters already have 2 more guns than any other ship of their class, that's overpowered enough for me. Superior Phantom ships/weapons - Benjamin - 03-16-2009 Voted 0%. guess I agree with blodo Superior Phantom ships/weapons - mwerte - 03-16-2009 ' Wrote:Have people here suddenly have lost the respect for the others and themselves? Not suddenly, it's been sliding for a while. *tear The only thing I'll add to this other then a Play Nice is, you can be aloof all you want ingame and in your stories, but on the forums, we're all still players, regardless of faction, kills, or likeability. The issue is that the Phantoms rp dictates top of the line ships and guns, so it is in fact about the roleplay. I'm of the belief that if you want to fly a ship, fly it. If you can justify any ship or gun, good or bad, by all means swing it. Hell, the Congress once fielded a Rheinland Battleship that got approved despite raising a few hackles. The one caveat is to consider the appearance any maneuver has to the general population, despite approval from a perceivedly insular few. Incidentally, this is why my faction no longer has a battleship and has seen capitals of any type reduced to almost zero. Insular roleplay is one thing, which is where it would make perfect sense on paper that the Phantoms should have the best guns and ships. But public perceptions and play experience is another matter of possibly greater importance. Really, every faction wants their guns to be the best. Bretonia will say its Sunrails and Templars are the mightiest force in the colonies. Rheinland wouldn't tell you their Hornvipers used to be terrible guns. You can roleplay having incredible technology without actually having it. Hell, on paper the Junkers should have big nasty reverse-engineered monstrosity ships with Transport shields and 3 torpedo slots and enough powercore to chainfire 3 SNs. Will they get that? Probably not. I'll step right up and say outright that I'm not a big fan of the Phantoms, but trying to play a faction of chaos-bringing murderous cyborgs is an uphill battle at best when it comes to popularity contests and gaining respect. The fact that they're still given the benefit of the doubt and interacted with, is testament to how a good roleplayer can swing a role that would be one-dimensional in the hands of so many others. For that reason the players behind the faction have that respect from me. Bottom line, you don't need the actual best guns to roleplay the most feared fighting force in the colonies. You just need to play it like you do. Superior Phantom ships/weapons - Friday - 03-16-2009 Phantoms *yawn* Still I gave them 20% - though personally I would rather see them with totally different types of weapons rather than simply more powerful versions of the same guns (same as my opinion of the Mon'Star). |
