RE: Hard decisions and hard time - Traudel Habermeyer - 01-08-2023

Traudel takes a closer look at Nina while they are on their way to ... wherever it may be. The path led through parts of the Ostkantone, al the way to a shuttle the little group boarded. One hand kept on the Corsair's shoulder to guide her along, as one might expect from an escorting soldier. Deep down though it was nothing more than one of the only ways to signal some semblance of support and reaffirmation without inviting in more suspicion. Sometimes applying gentle pressure by squeezing said shoulder or moving a thumb up and down. "Eyes front, don't want you tripping..." she mutters, as they enter.

Two armed guards awaited inside the shuttle, something about them seemed awfully off. Eyes emotionless, only moving once to oversee everyone that was still breathing sat down and strapped in properly. Due to being cuffed, Traudel takes care of that for Nina - and uses the chance to whisper some more words. "This might be bad, i'll try my best but... if it goes south no regrets, ja? Life was lived up to here."

The admiral herself nowhere to be seen. Maybe further ahead or in the cockpit, away from the more regular passengers on this flight into the unknown. As the boarding ramp closes and the shuttle takes off, the brief time of captivity aboard the Donau cruiser Ostkantone comes to an end. To be exchanged for the sweet prospect of even more uncertainty.

She eyed Traudel as 'Do I look to enjoy this?' To her turn, she whispered some words. ''What will happen next? I don't want to stay here any longer-'' She needed to cut her sentence because she could be heard by a guard going nearby them. However, she managed to say what mattered first.

Once the guard passed them, Nina let a little sentence out but still whispering to Traudel. ''Help me to get out. I- I will reward you duely.'' She then looked at her waiting what she will do or say.

Silent expression of 'I don't enjoy it either' follows first, as the guard passed Traudel checks her own gear - then returns to converse with Nina in as hushed a tone as possible. "I'd be surprised if you would, of course. I do not know entirely what will follow, but if there ever was a time to trust me it's now. Do have an idea... it ... just won't be an immediate escape." She appeared tense, on the edge and deep in thought. "If i stage an escape attempt i'll be doomed alongside you. Neither of us wants that. So reward me by trying your best to not lose it and cause a fuzz, ja? We two are screwed already by how things are. We shouldn't make it worse."

She rolled her eyes. ''Fine... I'll do my best to not make things worse as it is already. But I can't promise to hold the corsair within me if someone tries to seek me.'' After saying this, she kept silence and looked straight in front of her. She emptied her head and kept a neutral attitude.

''Ill keep silence now. I feel we need to shut up soon.'' After saying this, the corsair looked around her surroundings but again, no escapes. ''I will be crazy at this rate.''

A longer breath was taken, slow nod. Instead of saying more, Traudel simply silently agreed. This seemingly was the best she could hope for given the current predicament both were in. The flight itself was not particularly long, judging by the slight bumps during transit the shuttle was already landing again somewhere.

Getting up from her seat to unbuckle Nina as well, she looks into the Corsair's eyes directly one last time before helping her up. "Our station to get off, we're there apparently. Mind the ramp..." As the shuttle doors opened again, one could see a considerably more spacious hangar area in comparison to the previous one. Same typical Rheinland fashion. Perhaps they had reached a station or yet another capital vessel. Several Valkyrie's and the occasional Revenant bomber were kept in a suspended state, attached to their docking clamps. If one were to count, there might be around twenty of them. Further in the back different ships were being worked on or dismantled, appearing somewhat out of place here. Two civilian models and the remnants of a no longer identifiable craft.

As the other passengers, dead ones included, left the shuttle, Traudel gently steered Nina to follow outside as well. Herzsprungs orderly was waiting for the two of them, the young officer points towards a pathway to an elevator and leads the way. "This way, the Admiral awaits." With a side glance at Nina, Traudel lifts her shoulders by barely an inch and proceeds to follow. During the elevator ride, Traudel grew increasingly uneasy. Swallowing a few times and gripping Nina's shoulder tighter without noticing. Leaving the elevator, the officer addresses Nina and Traudel. "Those restraints are no longer required, remove them Oberleutnant." His words reach Traudel's mind, but a noticeable amount of time passes before she snaps back to reality and uncuffs the Corsair.

Almost ceremonially opening the doors into the office, the young officer clicks his heels and announces Herzsprung's guests. "Frau Admiral, Oberleutnant Habermeyer and the additional prisoner from the Ostkantone." The room they enter boasts a lavish, adorned and massive wooden table in the middle, by the looks of it not usually part of the office's decor. Which was dominated by a few accolades on the walls, varieties of ranged and meele weapons - swords and daggers among them - in glass cases, straight up curios like skull fragments or seemingly unrelated pieces of what might be considered art by some. All on some sort of display, akin to a gallery of sorts. In stark contrast to the militaristic nature of the rest of Herzsprung's office, the table stood out like a sore thumb in comparison. Welcoming almost, waiting for guests to sit down. Three empty plates with eating utensils, three chairs. One chair at the head and one at foot of the table - one perfectly at one side of it, located between both ends. Something, most likely food, was already present on the table. Each potential dish covered by a silver cloche.

Herzsprung herself waited near her own desk further inside the room, staring at one of her exhibits close to it. A piece of hull from an unknown ship, scorched and malformed. Without turning her head, she dismisses her orderly by a wave of her left hand and a single word follows towards both remaining women.

"Sit."

During the walk to Herzsprung's office, Nina did not talk but comply to any orders from Traudel. She also looked around probably getting some valuable info but nothing. When they were in the elevator, Nina noticed that Traudel was squeezing it harder. ''It will be alright...'' The sentence she wanted to say to her but it would be risky even saying this. It would reveal their relation in some way.

When her restraints were removed, Nina massed her wrists. The only thing she thought was to hug the woman in whom she trusts the most but right now, again, it was not the moment for that. Herzsprung's office wasn't the most welcome and especialy the aura she was spreading made the place worse. The corsair looked carefuly at the room's walls and when Traudel and her were ordered to sit at the table, Nina complied.

Traudel's words came in her head: "Whatever happens. Play. By. Her. Rules." Instead to break the silence, she nodded and kept silence.

Traudel must've not been in here before either, as her attention wanders around and takes in the sights. Even now, when faced with gut-wrenching and highly dangerous situations, curiousity partially got the better of her. Especially the bones on display caused a confusing mix of fascination and concern. So much of a distraction, that the single word from the admiral may have reached her brain ... but it was Nina moving to sit down that got Traudel to realize there were more pressing matters. She took the chair located at one side of the table, the middle one. Effectively positioning herself between Nina and Herzsprung. Awkwardly playing around with her own hands, now that she was seated and did not know where to put them. Her lap? No, needed to move them again. On the table? That might be rude. Better back on her lap, neatly folded - waiting like a child soon to be scolded by its parents. Eyes wandering to Nina, giving her a shaky nod aimed at appearing at least somewhat reaffirming. Mouthing but not saying the words 'We can do it'.

Herzsprung slowly turned, looking at both, but only addressing one. "You." Remaining eye zeroing in on Nina. "It is so rare i have guests - and then such illustrious ones at that. There are reports about you, plenty even. Most if not all from Habermeyer here." Her focus shifts for a brief moment, prompting Traudel to stop breathing for the duration. A short moment it may have been, for Traudel it felt like an eternity. Looking at Nina again, Herzsprung continued. "Partake." A simple gesture towards the table. "Oberleutnant."

"Jawohl, Frau Admiral." Getting up somewhat robotic, Traudel walks around the table to remove the covers of whatever dishes might be around. Unveiling different meats, gravy, potatoes as well as vegetables in addition to sliced bread and herb butter. "And while you are at it, let us converse. You are to speak freely. Days like these are rare and therefore to be used."

RE: Hard decisions and hard time - Elvinos2003 - 01-09-2023

Seated in front of Herzsprung, the corsair looked at the plates revealing food as Traudel was removing the covers. Only confusion was read on Nina's face. She expected something worse than simply having a 'diner' head to head with the old woman and Traudel. The unexpected arrived and het stomach yelled famine. ''It could be a trap! Poisoned food to make me talk!''

The sentence of the admiral broke her attention of the plate and now focus on Herzsprung. ''Converse? There's nothing to talk about. I want to leave and why you need another person here?'' She looked at Traudel acting like she hates her to death. ''Are you so scared to have a 'diner' head to head with a corsair?'' After saying this, she looked back to the admiral. She also had a thought for Traudel. ''I hope you are taking note of my acting role, Traudel.''

RE: Hard decisions and hard time - Traudel Habermeyer - 01-09-2023

Herzsprung's end of the table was still empty, as the admiral remained near her desk further back in the room. Studying her current company intently after Nina looked daggers at Traudel. Who in turn appeared confused for a fraction of a second before understanding. She could not say anything except a few words and glare at Nina in an artificial attempt to appear hostile. "Typical Corsair hogwash, pay some res-..." Herzsprung proceeded to talk, shutting Traudel up in an instant. "Nothing to talk about? I beg to differ. Unless you are dead certain of that, in which case this dinner's outcome will inevitably add another exhibit to my collection." Pausing once to take in even the slightest change in expression. Traudel's eyes darted over to one of the bones on display and slowly back again, her lips pressed to a thin line. "One of us here clearly would not be in favor of this. Perhaps even two..." The old woman picked something up from her desk, then walked over. One gloved hand rests on top of the chairback, other one carrying a simple hand held device with a screen. Lines of text visible on it.

"Make no mistake, ... dear guest. She isn't here for my safety. I had plenty Corsairs for dinner already." The way it was worded, the way she said it and the way she looked at Nina made it abundantly clear - it was more than mere wordplay. Without taking her piercing gaze away, Herzsprung's free hand pointed at the already pre-sliced roast.

"I heard the meat is delectable."

Hearing what sounded true, Nina showed disgust. ''And everyone says the corsairs are the cannibals.'' After hearing that, she lost the will to eat something. ''This granny is the cannibal. Of course, no one will ever believe it. If I can expose her-'' Her thoughts stopped after crossing Traudel's eyes.

''Spit it, why am I here? I am well aware it is not to share gentle words between you and I.'' Somehow, Nina gained the inner proud corsair but she managed to not expose it completely by fear to make things worse. She just wanted to make things faster. Faster it will be done, faster she will go. That's what she thought.
