English..? Please? - Guest - 06-15-2009 ' Wrote:My thoughts on this issue: People shouldn't heckle just because other cultures don't know or understand our language well enough to RP. That said I do believe that there should be some sort of translator system put in place that would have peoples words put into the language of a player who speaks that language. Then in reply that person's language would be converted back to english for the rest of the players. Thus ilimanating the RP language gap. No. That'll mess up the sentence even more than if the other player tries to write in English. English..? Please? - Cris - 06-15-2009 Well, I knida have a solution, not sure how you will react, since some memebers of the community seem to get a bit "energic" when someone disagrees witht them, but whatever here it goes First, my native language is spanish so if you want I can contribute with translating the rules. Now, based on my experience... Once I had a situation with a non-english speaker carrying this ship (dont remember what it was, I think it was some big transport) and a civillian ID, I told him to chaneg his ID and received a " I not speak english", instead of blowing my kidneys in anger I asked him what else did he speak, he said "Spanish", great I told him "//Tienes que cambiar el ID de tu personaje", and after explainning him why he should change his ID (and why I was using the //:D) I actually "escorted" him to change his ID and set him up (oh my god I should be canonized when I die) and problem solved. But, another time a got a repsonse from a guy who said he spoke german, and I had some pilots I had to ask to release (after half minute of silence), and well I cant do anyhting, but again I didnt die of anger, he will eventually find someone else that will blow him up, or be banned etc etc, but even tough I could not recover those pilots, I didnt die of anger because actually it didnt affect RP at all, I mean those pilot are NPCs after all, Its not the end of the world. So my soultion, (and srry for the long posts I usually do Im working on that:P.) BE TOLERANT!!! Many players that speak other languages will eventually get bored of their own lack of RP and leave, others will find a group of people who speak theri same languages, other will get tired of being banned, but there is no reason to attack them adn tell them to leave begin flamming (which is very usual these days). Anyways the server is in czech so... Isnt english the foreign language actually? English..? Please? - johnpeter - 06-15-2009 /offtopic All non English speakers, get Opera!!! (The beta version) It has a built in auto correcter! (And translator). /ontopic There needs to be a place where the admins draw the line. For example, someone mixing up "their" and "there" is in my opinion fine. However someone who is misspelling, and mixing up vital words is not. For example "Sanction" and "Suntan":P:P:P English..? Mandrian is the most spoken language, but the server is most certainly English. EDIT: Oh, you mean where it's located... Still, Igiss, as a Russian decided to make it a English server. English..? Please? - schlurbi - 06-16-2009 Well. I've seen that the people who cannot speak english are grouped. Last time i saw 3 Starfleas at Westpoint. Each one of them had _RU at the end. But i dont know if they speak any English. But i didnt get any response on my "Greetings." And the Country Tag in the name is also against the rules. But I see that no-one cares about the Names. Because there are a lot of people witch names in CAPITAL letters, or Country Tags. English..? Please? - Ramutra - 06-16-2009 As was said not so much time ago, most of Russians (strong OORP-ers) come here from the non-RP servers (it means only "pewpew"). And most of them don't have any skills of English language (well, I understand, I also don't know English very well, but I at least try to learn it better). More than it, they don't want read rules, no matter what language. But please, don't think that all of Russians are so stupid. I know at least 6 persons, they are good people in all. I'm sorry for those, who don't respect foreign-language community. Really sorry :( English..? If a player tries to fit in, this community will in turn try to be more understanding. If they make no effort then threads like this will occur. Yes this is a little harsh, but its only natural for players to protect what they cherish. When I first started playing online there was a massive Norwegian & Swedish contingent on UKserver & all were keen to learn English & have a laugh. They were a good crowd, warmly accepted by the majority and most of them quickly came to grips with an arguably difficult language. If I hadnt bumped into what eventually turned into UCSF I would have quit Freelancer ages ago. English..? Please? - Cris - 06-17-2009 ' Wrote:Well. Well then I see no problem "Live and let live" they are having fun on their own, that wont interfere with the community or the development of the server or the whatever you want. If the best and only RP server with a decent quantity of members was in chinesse (or however its written:P) and you and a bunch of english only speaker friends wanted to join, you wouldnt like somene write some weird stuff and blowing your ship a few seconds later without having the minimal idea of what just happened. //offtopic, noticed the contry tag thing, and well...um... =CR= would be the initials of my country so... BAN THEM!! BAN THEM ALL!! GIVE THEM NO QUARTERS!!! :)kidding English..? Please? - schlurbi - 06-17-2009 =CR= is an official Tag of a faction. No need to do something like that. But i mean. Just think all 3 are overlever, flying Percherons for example. Youre a Pirate and none of those 3 understands you. So you are screwed. And will just blow them up. Its no real fun for the Pirate to get a person who cant understand you and its defo no fun for the Trader. I never ran into a Pirate who cant speak english tho. |
