Im very bad at names. I am better at forging a personality, background and so on, but that requires me to fly around a bit in the character with a blank slate, before thinking about it. I cant plan the entire character before it is made unfortunately.
Here are some examples: (note, the characters I have that are not listed here, such as Sonja Kerensky, do not bear tangible relevance to any characters or personalities in both the fictional or the real world that I am aware of)
Mariko Kietan.
First name from Mariko in the anime series Elfen Lied.
Personality also based on the same character. To do with this, I still need to write up whats floating in my brain about retconning her entire life up to now, before I can post RP taking her story further.
Juan Montoya.
Name from Juan Pablo Montoya, at the time, an F1 driver.
No personality basis, I don't know the guy well enough. Just a memorable name.
Stuart Payne. (most wont know this character)
Name of one of my aquaintances from secondary school.
No personality basis, didnt understand how he thought at all.
Hajime Kitao.
My own Japanese name.
Based on my view of a typical Japanese soldier from world war II, with a little less rigidity.
Moros
Name from a huge list that Ench compiled, as far as I know, from her brain.
Picture photo taken from the anime series Fate Stay Night, character Gilgamesh.
Personality bears some resemblance, due to the fittingly dark nature of Gilgamesh in that series.
I am fine with characters based on characters.
What I am not fine with is characters that are other characters.
For example, take the personality of a character that you think you could play as, mould it into this setting and make changes where it makes you feel more comfortable to play.
Don't, in my opinion, port a character straight away from a show, series or book to this game.

That said, however...
I do not take it that seriously. It doesnt epically piss me off, and a bit of ripping can be good fun. Done in the right way, and to the right people who recognise that it is meant to be fun, it can be very entertaining. For example, famous quotes from Star Wars and other memorably famous sources. I don't really want to see Luke Skywalker and Darth Vadar make an appearance though.
Besides, whoever remembers Black Squadron (predecesor to Order|) might recall that its history on this server was based on an Empire fleet chasing the nomads to this galaxy, getting stranded and then rebuilding their armada. Didn't care then, don't care now.
