Hello, battleships of today got scrapped becose their utility use doesnt match that of 90 aircrafts on carrier or tens of nuclear warheads in submarine. It has nothing to do with their vulnerability, in ww2 battleships died to aircrafts becose of human factor, today (well at start of 90s) when Missouri had computer guided anti-aircraft machineguns, flak cannons and missiles it could easily wipe all aircrafts from carrier without them hitting it. But battleships are made to fight battleships and since terrorists and pirates dont have battleships there is no need for them. As for Disco and its pirate battleships well in my oppinion that was mistake when you designed this mod. Although they are nice and all. But pirates would feel unfairly treated without them?;)There is a rumor text on Malta and Crete in Freelancer saying that they dont need capital ships becose they have superweapons on ground that can shoot down anything in orbit of said planets. That was also balance of original freelancer, Liberty had weakest fighters but they enjoyed supports of numerous capital ships, the more you went into game each faction you visited had less capital ships and more powerful fighters. Houses ended with Rheinland which had just one battleship in hamburg that suvived 80 years war and very good fighters (doesnt count single player nomad assisted build up) and finally edge worlds where there was no capital ship at all but most advanced fighters in game. Balancing against lolwuts is about as effective as a screen door on a submarine. ^ holy ****.... i mean sombody with a brain here finally. fking signed get rid of the Super Fagetry Nova LoL Kaboom Cannon and you will find balance being GREATLY restored. bombers should rely on torpedos alone, that is it, a single fighter would never be able to queeze out a shot like that in its wildest dreams. without taking serious hull damage or shield drain from doing so. the gun has no waekness, at all, bombers can shoot it and then still shoot you with there various other bomber weapons. using a SNAC should either, drain all your power and lower your shields, drain you all your power and damage your hull, or run on NOT A LOT of ammunition. and all this talk about "battleships dont exist nowadays" because there is no need for such a ship to exist anymore they were made impracticle and vulnerable to bombers BECAUSE OF GRAVITY, carriers wouldnt exists either if they didnt have planes/aircraft on and in them. if they made a battleship now it would be the king of the sea, because they dont rely on primitive machine gun/cannon weaponry any more on ships to take out fighters and bombers, they have radar guided POINT DEFENCE SYSTEMS to take out missiles, and missiels to take out fighters and other ships, modern warships only have cannons for close quarters worst case scenarios, a battleship of the Era freelancer is from would NEVER have to worry about anything other than another battleship or a cruiser flotilla, it would have point defences for your lol bombers and there torpedos, it is a trillion credit (or so it should be) fully equiped battle platform, the only reason it cant run is because it should never have to....period. the trade off in a battleship should of course be, your speed, battleships shouldnt be able to mount a thrusters, if they go anywhere, they should go at snails pace, they are slow because they dont need to be fast. |
