Contest: 200 for the 200 - Juan_Arquero - 11-13-2007 ' Wrote:You forgot drauger, he has 108...I'm sorry to burst your balloon, but that record has already been broken. When I get online with Freelancer, I check to see how many players are on the servers where I have characters. If I'm playing Discovery, I'll check how many players are on the vanilla servers before I toggle the settings to limit the display to Discovery servers. I've recently noticed increasing activity on the Jolt.co.uk vanilla server, possibly due to server events. Many times they have few players, but I've seen them maxed out at 50/50 and within the last two weeks I was amazed once to see Jolt.co.uk maxed out at 128/128. I didn't take a screen shot of it, because I hadn't read this thread, so I didn't know it was that significant an achievement. If I recall correctly, I used to see numbers that high on a regular basis on a few servers back in 2004-2005, including the raw vanilla server and the Armageddon Evolutions server, both servers where I had characters. Edited to add the quotes and comments below: ' Wrote:I'm offering 128 million credits to the first screenshot posted here showing the server with the 128 players on. ' Wrote:Time to put Freelancer on 128 computers here at work and log them all on and take a screenshot. My family is from Uruguay (where sarcastic humor is a popular pastime) and Argentina (where sarcastic humor is a national obsession, only exceeded by the passion for soccer), so I immediately recognized AC_Merc's response as a sarcastic joke. ' Wrote:Don't dare to do that.Korrd: Since you're from Argentina, I couldn't believe that you didn't recognize AC_Merc's response as a sarcastic joke. Don't let other Argentines find out that you didn't recognize a sarcastic joke made by an American (AC_Merc) or you might lose your Argentine citizenship!:P By the way, my mother was from Salto, Uruguay and my father was born in Montevideo, Uruguay, but grew up in Buenos Aires, Argentina. I don't think so. I went through the forums of the biggest servers and so far 118 really is the record. But I may be wrong, of course and maybe the Jolt.co.uk serves for a really large group of players who all start playing FL at the same time, no matter that it's 5 am in the morning and next day is a work/school day... Contest: 200 for the 200 - Juan_Arquero - 11-13-2007 ' Wrote:http://stats.freelancerserver.de/Thanks for the link to that program.:D OK -- you're right that something weird is happening with the Jolt server. Most of the time Jolt has 10 players or less, often none, but sometimes it is completely full. Maybe somebody is attacking the Jolt server and filling up those player slots. Unfortunately, I can't prove that I've seen servers which actually had 128 players filling 128 slots, but I did see that in 2004-2005. I played on the Armageddon Evolutions server when it had 120-128 players out of 128 slots, but it died in 2005-2006 (when I wasn't playing Freelancer due to computer problems), along with the Evolutions mod (hardly any servers run that mod now). The raw server is still around, but the raw server forums are down (I just checked, but I've listed the link in case anybody wants to try). Raw used to be an active server with dozens or even scores of players, but it is usually empty now. I don't know why. Solaris used to fill up at 128/128 when it was a vanilla server. I became an SP (Server Police) there before Solaris became Solaris Evolutions. I stopped playing Freelancer in early 2005 due to computer problems, after which Solaris Evolutions died. One of the Solaris admins brought it back for a short while as Solaris_Resurrection Discovery and I was an SP on there again. I remember that admin mentioning that Solaris used to fill up at 128/128 when a new player asked about the history of the server. Contest: 200 for the 200 - majkp - 11-13-2007 OK, I was playing FL online for only 2 years now... Sooo, then we can reduce the goal to first server with 128/128 players in the year 2007...:-) |
