*Slaps Mal on the back*

Ouch, hope I didn't hurt with that one. And yes, better think more wisely with the matching.

Hi guys,

I'm Shield42 and I'm the other leader of SAPD. As Pole_Ice stated we are from a GTA:San Andreas Multiplayer community called Crazybob's Cops 'n Robbers. Long story short many of us are getting into Freelancer, including me. We still have a lot to learn though, so our role in this community is yet to be determined. But don't worry guys, our standards are high and we don't tolerate any messing around.

Nice to hear, since that is exactly what the mature players among us are aiming for.
I have another fabulous suggestion for you guys.
A large proportion of the players at Disco have multiple characters and are members of multiple clans. There is no better way for you guys to get into the swing of things around here than for you to divide yourselves up and join some of these different clans. Choose clans like RHA and QCO that really need some more good members and help them bring some strong roleplaying to the server. In return, those clans will teach you far more about Disco that you will be able to learn by yourselves otherwise. After a couple of weeks of that, you will be in a fabulous position to know how to start and run a clan that will be a good addition to the server and this community. Also, during this time you can spend some of your time trading with independent traders (say, GMG tagged ones like my previous idea) so that you will collectively have funds available when you are ready to move ahead with your clan concept.
Now I know that you will probably balk at this suggestion, but trust me. "Clans" from other servers that come to Disco and expect to pick up where they left off elsewhere...well just look around. How many of those do you see? Exactly. My way will serve you better, and it will convince this community that you are mature, serious players who want to contribute TO this community rather than just squeeze it dry for your own selfish enjoyment.
And notice, I am not even suggesting that any of you join the clan I run. We aren't struggling but there are others who could really benefit from your input.
I also re-recommend to you my GMG idea from post # 34.

Good stuff, and thanks for the positive feedback. I'm another member in [SAPD]. Instead of doing trading, I'm looking to explore the galaxy as much as possible and researching where the best technology is. Working on Rheinland and the Omega areas right now looking for Nomad Scanners and other such trinkets. Plenty of raider bases down there.

I think right now we're just going with the trader thing and building up momentum. I'm not quite sure about splitting up and joining different clans, as we prefer staying together. But it's an interesting suggestion.

Is there a place where one can find a cheat sheet with information about discovery? Found a discovery wikipedia with not much on it. Then again, that might be a redundant question, as I have yet to search the forums in-depth.

The readme has as much info as you are likely to find anywhere else.

[SAPD]- [NYPD] -etc - ian - 03-12-2008

yeah the readme has ALOT of good information about the ships:)and is the nearest document that you can get to what you want

i'll be glad to provide information on some systems that you might not want to enter straight away (the gaurd systems are hard to identify and soon as you go through the only way back is either 1. bodybag or 2. limping away with a fraction of your ship left):)

I'll add just a few more points about all of you joining different existing clans that suit your interests.
By doing this you will get to know the rest of us players as teammates and friends rather than just as opponents (depending on what clan you start).
You will also learn many different perspectives on how clans operate in Disco.
You will earn the respect and trust of the rest of the players on the server by your willingness to integrate yourselves into our community rather than just showing up and carving out your own niche that you expect the rest of us to respect.
You accomplish none of these things by remaining separate.
As I said before, many, many players here have membership in mutliple clans without any problems. The benefits of doing so for your group far outweigh any disadvantages. You will learn far more about Disco FL by joining existing clans than you ever will by remaining separate.
So, I suggest it again : join some of the clans that have small memberships, assist in their success, and use what you learn to create a clan that fills one of the roleplaying voids on the server (while maintaining your original clan memberships).
You can count the transferred groups of players that came to Disco from other servers and games with one hand that have followed this recommendation. Who knows how many others have refused to, and they are all gone as a result of it.
As a couple of recommendations to join : Bretonian Police Authority, Nature's Last Hope, Red Hessian Army, Black Dragon (Hogosha), Queen Carina's Royal Fleet.
And finally, whatever you do, get faction specific commercial tags and IDs. It will help give you a sense of who you are supposed to be roleplaying much better than untagged generic Trader IDs.
