Well I used 5 Firekisses for some time on my Wrath... and they were hopelessly difficult to hit with compared to Codes...and when jousting you try to use your ship advantage to turn faster and score hits before he finishes his turn. With 500m/s it was not possible... shots fired with me going at 200m/s backwards and him going at 200m/s backwards.... were moving at 100m/s his way... that was like watching a slow movie...

I still use some firekisses on my Snubnose.. and Magmas on Navy Havoc.... and I can hit Gunboats with them.. most of the time anyway :crazy:

Only guns around with 550 speed are Hogosha ones and I never used those... I will try to test them in the next days...

Either the lower damage rating (1100) and 550m/s or
leave them as they are now (970) and 600 m/s will be much better than 1200 and 500 m/s.

If I could choose I would pick the 970 / 600m/s actually...that said I still need to test 550 speed.

Nah, Hogosha ones are 4.0 refire, it's not the same. It's harder to hit with them then with regular 600 guns, yes, but it's way easier to hit then with other plasma guns.

I don't mind them being 600 either. They are still weaker then codes, but at least Navy/Military can use it in RP.
The way they are they are just bloody useless. In SP they are great, but in MP they are really bad.

So, people, we need comments.

1200/600 damage - 500 speed
1100/550 damage - 550 speed
Current damage - 600 speed

Give your comments. One of these has to win!
My vote goes to the 3rd option, as I think people will maybe consider using them in that case.

I would like to see the Black Widow balanced...
Lets compare it with the Kraken 2 for a second here..
Black Widow ----- Kraken
Hull: 580 ----------556
Energy: 175 ------126
Range: 550 ------700
Speed: 700------700


Yes, I realize that Xenos aren't supposed to have uber guns..But the beefiest VHF they have access to is the Eagle. And even TWO Black Widows can drain all its energy within 60 seconds. Cross in other guns such as two Suntigers and two Imp Debs or Adv Debs, and you get about five-ten seconds of firing time. Not good, especially with the Black Widow is as short ranged as it is.

Can this be fixed, or do I have to beg?

I'v given it a slightly adjustment, don't know if you'v noticed it. I had a Xeno, Eagle with 2 Widows and 2 Suntigers works just fine, and still does a lot of damage.
I don't think it needs a bigger upgrade.
Though, let's hear what Dusty has to say, as he's interfering in every Xeno thread;)

I'm not asking for it to be uber..I just want it to use less than 175 energy or get the range to compensate..even then it should still get a lessening of energy down to 150 or such, because at the moment, it uses the same amount of energy as a 3.03 refire CODE (Cerberus), despite having a refire of 4.00

That's why Suntigers are very energy efficient, and still do a biggy damage.
Energy efficiency of the Black Widow shouldn't go to 4.0, so, maybe decreasing power usage to 160-165 is in order, but that's about it.

Zavier throws out a good point there.

Considering that it's a weapon class intended by its audience to be fitted strictly to ships with less than enviable power plants, the Xeno line of shooters is a good example of curiously balanced weaponry.

Basically its a comparison not unlike a high powered rifle, sawed down and with the magazine removed. But to what end?

As I said once, while Titans would be perfect with Black Widows, Eagles could do good with Salamanca's.
It doesn't make sense to me either, but what the hell.
Decreasing the power usage to 160, with 600 damage that is more then fair I think.
That means energy efficiency is around 3.75 now, which is a big boost comparing to current 3.3 + it got a 20 bonus damage upgrade.

Now I can predict 3 people countering this decision, so, throw it at me:)

In my defense, I must give a few guidelines. Extra 20 damage is always payed a lot in energy, and I will give a well known example.

Archangel
Damage - 1400
Power usage - 315

Excalibur
Damage - 1390
Power usage 265

See my point?
And the fact is that Widow has the best DPS of class 9 weapons.
So, it's the same as for code weapons.
By some rule it goes like this - Best DPS = Worst efficiency.

take into account that some weapons are meant for some fighter types. i think someone ( maybe even you chopper - cannot remember ) pointed out that... for example.. molly weapons were superoir to most others, due to the fact that molly ships ( werewolf / wolfhound ) could only mount 5 weapons on their ships.

so - if people stuck to their faction gear only - things are sometimes balanced, even if the weaponstats itself appear to be higher than others in direct comparrisson.

for example you could say that .... liberty weapons are weaker than most other, but they got the ravens claw with its 8 weapons - that makes up for some weaker weapons ( in theory ). if liberty weapons were balanced with ... say molly weapons who can only mount 5 weapons, then liberty would be much stronger.

I'd like for the Widows to be upped a bit too.

The one thing I've noticed about VHF/High Lv. fighting is that it takes forever to get anything done. This is because the damage to hull ratio hasn't been going up equaly, throw in armour modifiers and things get even worse. If you look at low Lv. fighting, say starblazers, they have tin-foil armour and the guns that you can use on it will eat another starblazers hull really quickly. Dogfights take a few minuits as aposed to hours then somone commiting suicide out of boredom. If the guns were good enough to eat a VHFs hull like paper, awesome! It would make fights alot more intresting, intense and fast.
