"Defense of Leeds" - Aingar - 08-20-2012 Pretty much what Rodent said. It might not be the best (screw it, it isn't) analogy, but I see the Gallia vs Bretonia in similar way in which ME3 turns out: Gallia (aka Reapers) slowly takes over sector after sector, while the best Bretonia ( Everyone else ) can do is slow them down. Conventional defeat of Gallia IS impossible, you can make them pay, yes, but not stop them, no matter how you look at it. Economical advantage( Claiming Tau's), Technological advantage, Morale advantage, geographical advantage(pincer maneuver) and on top of that crushing numerical superiority. The mere fact of bunkering down system for several years only partially diminishes the gallia's advantages. Of course it does give bretonia more time to develop their own "Crucible", but I just don't see it making any remote kind of sense. If someone/something defeats gallia, it won't be the brets fleet. For the record, I do not say your idea is bad, some of those maneuvers are the smart things to do, I'm just pointing out that you're overestimating the impact, they will help, they will increase gallia's losses, slow them down, but it will not stop the force of this size. "A bold strategy, just... irrelevant." "Defense of Leeds" - Hidamari - 08-20-2012 ' Wrote:a) Bretonia *has* to lose. They have no chance of final victory. none, nada. Powergamed:) "Defense of Leeds" - Rodent - 08-20-2012 ' Wrote:Powergamed:) If anyone can do that, it's the devs.;) I'm just stating opinion based on what lore has been established in the matter. "Defense of Leeds" - Ipuvaepe - 08-20-2012 ' Wrote:Powergamed:)Erm... technically it'd be powergaming for them to not lose. Have a valiant final stand, sure. Victory over Gallia as Bretonian's alliances are at current is simply not possible without a significant tide-changing event(s). "Defense of Leeds" - jammi - 08-20-2012 Rodent's probably made some of the most insightful posts in this thread. "Defense of Leeds" - SA_Scavenger - 08-20-2012 Hey, why not do a guerrilla war option? Have all Bretonian planets up to Cambridge taken over by the GRN. Let the GRN then move onto Liberty and have a treaty with the Corsairs to hold up the rest of the Bretonian fleet in the Cambridge and New London systems. After awhile, the Bretonian fleet can then provide intermittent support to Liberty behind enemy lines and also hamper supply lines to the GRN fleet. Eventually, depending on whether the GRN makes headway into Liberty, Bretonia might be able to have surprise attacks and take control of certain systems again. Enough of these sorts of attacks and the GRN fleet may well have to abandon full conquest of Sirius, at least for awhile, to fortify the newly conquered territories. This would give the needed time for Liberty and Rheinland to build up fleets and much needed defense. A peace accord could also be struck between Liberty and Rheinland as the war with the GRN heats up. Won't be fun for Bretonia, but it's great for a story... "Defense of Leeds" - Lonely_Ghost - 08-20-2012 Bretonia self-sacrifise, evacuate part of population to Rheinland and Liberty... While GRN having allmost coplete control over Bret space, remains of armed forces performs in pirate raid manner- attacking most unprotected regions, lone cap ships, without support, transportation and other diversions... Put mines into stations, so they can explode, when enemy forces would fly near, or even docked some ships. Dunno, they can set exit point from JG to NL from Leeds into sun... In brutal fight Bretonia indeed has 0 chances, but who sayed, that they will do it ? "Defense of Leeds" - Ipuvaepe - 08-20-2012 GRN-occupied Bretonia would be a good excuse to get rid of all but 3-4 Gallic systems. Move BAF back to Cambridge/Manchester/Magellan, successful Liberty/Bretonia/Rheinland(?) combined fleet counterattack in 4.87. Nope, no need to remove few systems, but in same time no need to add new, in Gallia region. Having large territory, GRN should also focuse on defending and proteckting thier space. So, even 30% of GRN total force would " stay at home for clean it up"... But yeah, if they do have more than 150 BS + 2k of smaller caps, not talking about snubcrafts....numbers says for themself  Not sure about Rheinland and their atitude to Gallia. But well, this will be a bit offtop. |
