Yes. Bacon tried to kill a NPC farmer in Galileo. One of them got away and fled to the Hacker guard system. A few minutes later, here comes a Spyglass engaging with no role play.
I'm willing to be you haven't seen one, because you're in the wrong place. Just because you haven't seen one, doesn't mean they don't exist.
The role play of the Spyglass is that it is a rare vessel. The role play of the Liberty Dread is that it is the staple of the Liberty Navy. It is logical that there would be far more Dreads than Glasses. Following that logic, there'd be more lolDreads then lolGlasses.

You see, I'm swapping between the Zoner Juggy and the Glasses here.
The juggy is an awesome ship. The roleplay (when there is) is amazing, especially in the Omicrons. But the sad part is, most of the time you're just camping a FP, or hiding somewhere. Unless you decide to enter lolberty with it, then people start raging, LNS's trigger finger gets twitchy. Yes, sure, pewpew the LNS, but that won't help the situation.
The Glasses however is a terrible ship (model is nice), but I love it when you pop outta nowhere to scare a loldread, and then the dread runs like no tomorrow, while screaming in system chat. Then you just hid somewhere, and watch the show.
Bah, screw 4.86. I'll enjoy it while I can. I do hope that they get a replacement BS for the SG. So at least we don't have to scrap our ship...

There should not be that many flying around.
We can either adjust the ship's lore to say that the Lane Hackers produced loads of them, which makes no sense at all considering who the LH are, or we can enforce the roleplay of the damn ship.
Make up your mind.
We can utterly destroy the LH's lore and make them a battleship producing faction, capable of taking over House systems.
Or we can ensure that the Spyglass is rare, as it's lore has ALWAYS intended it to be.

On the matter of this faction/independent bullcrap:
Get your head out of your ass, there is no conspiracy against independents, or against factions.
How do you think factions start out? They are independents who are interested in working together towards a common goal.
That then creates a faction. That is why factions are listened to, they are the people who are truly interested in investing time into the faction and taking on responsibility for it.
Defending Independents? Against what? The Spyglass should be rare.
Therefore entrusting it to an organised group of players who are known to keep to guidelines given to them and to conduct a high degree of roleplay makes perfect sense.

On a more general note, maybe I should point out that the Spyglass shouldn't even be a Lane Hacker ship. The short history you can read on the ship infocard is in fact the history of the Hellfire Spyglass. Need I also remind people that Vespucci was supposed to be a Hellfire system from the beginning ? As I said, the only reason why Hackers can fly that ship is that there is "Hacker" in its name (and pew pew Barges)
