If you were to give lane hackers TLAGSNET and make them information brokers as you say, true to their lore.

I would suggest a significant reduction in their tech, and what they can use. Perhaps limit the ID to nothing larger then Heavy fighters. Just my two cents. I think it would be fairly balanced that way. Not as effective as the police scanners (as they can use more ships), but still gets the job done? no?

Even if the gunship is nerfed into having the stats of a starflier or by setting many limitations to the LH TLAGSNET, I think it will still be an overpowered tool. So Xoria, I think Enoch is right about not applying that feature into the game. Afterall, it won't be the first one.

@Neil Banes: Try reading up the thread from the start. It might help.

' Wrote:Yeah there is a lot of information you need to filter. And yes obviously I would like that information as a pirate, but I already have access to some of it using the player list. Ultimately when lane pirating, I can't control which ships goes my way, and using TLAGSNET all I would have would be information on ships and their cargo heading my way, and ships and cargo that heads another way than mine. So in other words, since I would be stopping ships heading my way anyways, it doesn't change much in that aspect. Only thing it really offers is information on ships I could then try to intercept, which would be difficult but fun.

But I do see that working in teams with one Hacker relaying info to the rest of the team could be very powerful. However you can get a similar effect by hiring freelancers to keep an eye on traders and reporting to you. That is why I would like to see it tested to see if it is really that big of an advantage in-game.

It would be a problem however if it was too easy to get access to. To limit it by making it specific to one weak ship or make it a super expensive piece of equipment might do it. Also the idea that the location of a Hacker using the TLAGSNET would immediately pop up on the lawfuls TLAGSNET would be fun - it would lead to new forms of cops vs. robbers strategies.

I like the concept in spirit, but it would have to be balanced to stop every pirate in lolberty from going hacker overnight.

One idea would be to give hackers some sort of underpowered ship, with no guns and low cargo, that would basically be a sitting duck once found. That ship would be the only one that could perform the hack. You could also charge hundreds of millions for the ship, to avoid having a million of them flying around, which would be oorp.
Basically, someone would have to be willing to spend 300,000,000 (or whatever) to ONLY be able to TLAGSNET in Liberty.

Hell, go really far and don't give it anything....no cm, no cd, no thruster, no gunslots, no shield if possibru, and like 2 cargo space, so no au's.

Give it 3000 hull and crap agility. Basically the worst ship ever created in the freelancer universe.

That might stop people from spamming them, and they would be easy to dispose of even if it didn't.

Hmmm, then again the whole idea just might be

I theoretically like the idea, but it seems just having it could have negative effects.

What about if there was a scanning module that worked together with ID to allow similar things? In particular, one that equipped in the armor slot and provided no armor bonus. Then let LH, Ageira, and DSE all get their own monitoring option with equipped with their ID plus that module.

It would have to be balanced, but it would just be awesome. I agree it should come at a price though, and it should be done in a way so few people would choose to use it. It would need a test before anything conclusive can be said as to whether or not it is too powerful - in a group it might prove too powerful, but then again a freelancer could monitor traders and relay most of that information to pirate groups as it is now. It would just be such a cool (and exclusive) feature if done right.
