I feel like it got a little to far since 2009 when it wasn't allowed to use, in fact, only F massive bombardments and OORP insults of sorts. In RP it was felt kinda less restricted for sure. So I vote for the "relaxed" lang filtering since... hell, we're RPing slavers, murderers, freaks, maniacs, tentacle rapes of random sorts, etc here and it's definitely not a children garden.

re: op
PG-13?
NEVER.
Slapping a movie rating on rp in general is a bad idea
ever seen those films that pg13 for the sake of pg 13?
or those r rated films that r-rate for the sake of being r rated
you know what those films don't have? good storylines. character development. know what they do have? lots of swearing, and obscenity for the sake of obscenity. there are two types of film- a movie that just happened to be rated pg13, vs a movie that was designed for pg13, the latter being a purely commercial venture trying to appeal to their target audience of "people who watch pg13" and "people who watch r-rated" respectively.
that's what disco will become if you suddenly say "hey everyone disco is now pg13/r rated"
Disco currently is in some cases beyond obscene than E-for-everyone. Currently we have fairly unrestricted rp llimited only by german nazi-related censorship and the "no foul languages" rule. and to my understanding, the language limitation has less to do with "ethics" and more to do with keeping the roleplay arpy, so that people don't start spamming pg13 crap.
By allowing topics such as slavery, drugs, rape etc the server has already demonstrated it is NOT a gay-ass "e for everyone" server. by not adhering to any specific tv guideline the server has ensured that the rp isn't the same as generic hollywood movie crap, nor is it a load of g/ pg/ pg13/ r-rated/ nc17 cesspit that dictates how a story should and shouldn't be. content shouldn't be influenced by specific guidelines, and right now it (aside from the whole germany jew nazi holocaust thing) pretty much isn't.
Good, let's keep it that way.

edit: tldr: precisely because we're RPing slavers, murderers, freaks, maniacs, tentacle rapes of random sorts, etc, does the ability to use a few words really matter? how many of the items above do you see in your average pg13 film?

In my opinion, crime is canon, and necessary for the game. So is the cardamine trade. Slavery is for the extra-evil. Rape however, is not something that was part of vanilla. I'm strongly of the opinion it should not be used or referenced or pretended here because it trivialises a horrendous and violent crime, and rape is not required for any game mechanic economic or shooting related. The extent to which it is joked about here is deeply troubling.

If you think gay-ass is the right word to use, you're wrong.

Because it suggests that you think gay-ass really does mean E for Everyone.

And if you think that, add me on Skype and we'll see how long it takes to change that.

Swearing is also canon, but we can't have that.

Besides, murder > rape

Excessive use of OORP swearing (//) toward a player can be considered disrespect and liable for "behavioral correction".

Use of swearing in a manner evidently OORP while iRP can be considered disrespect and liable for "behavioral correction".

There, that wasn't so hard, was it?

People seem to think that everyone here are a bunch of immature brats, who at the first chance they get, will spew curses all over NY System chat. Obviously, we're going to have some, but we can fix that. I've seen people avoiding the swear filter with spaces, -s, and _s.

If I had a thug character, and a BS uncloaked near him, would he say "Egads!" or "S**t!"? You have to think realistically here, RP wise. Gangsters, thugs, and the likes use curse words frequently, it's just part of their "lifestyle". Why can't we properly RP like one, instead of having to tiptoe around swearing and use sophisticated insults on an obviously unsophisticated character?

There are times when using curse words adds to the RP and helps you to play out that character, and there are times when someone will just blatantly overdo it.

Other: I don't really care.

Edit:

Actually, after thinking about it and having an interesting conversation with someone on Skype about this topic, I'd like to change my vote to "No". And I'll try to explain why.

In a "community" like disco's, where people search for loop holes in the rules, try to abuse circumstances and do all other kinds of stuff to get at you personally, such a change would just cause more trouble than it would give benefits. Granted that people who actually really want this change for a better and more interesting rp enviroment would probably use the freedom within reason and cautiously, disco has proven again and again that it unfortunately has too many people, who can't be trusted with giving them any freedom - at all.

The change would result in more obscure and butthurt (justified or non-justified) reports, which means more unnecessary reports and therefore more unnecessary work for the admins - I'm pretty sure the admin team sees that the same way and that's why things are how they are.

To quote one line from the skype: "I like the freedom. The wider group of people are too dumb to get freedom." (note: if you feel insulted by that line don't flame me, but start to ask yourself why you do feel that way.)
