Battleship problem - Eppy - 05-25-2007 Sorry, Virus, i know it costs more than a system with the doubling. But in my mind a system should cost a good five billion credits, so... Battleship problem - fwolf - 05-25-2007 What Hyperwave said I had already pointed out before: no matter how expensive is the battleship, the player who wants it will get it. He will made the boring trade with his large train until he gets the money, and will not be bothered by pirates as we dont have too much pirates actually. The type of player who might be disencouraged to get a battleship will be those like me who dont like to spend entire hours, days of his time doing that same run, looking at that same background, to get money for a battleship. Put these ships on guard systems and made them require full reputation with the guard might be the solution, but the same player working on trade to get the money can work on a fighter to get the reputation, so I dont known if it will work. Put these ships to be used only by the largest player factions can solve to problem to some extent, but if the battleships are going to be too much strong, like it was proposed, small factions, like pirates for example, will not have any means to defend themselves when the largest factions attacks them using those ships. Battleship problem - Panzer - 05-25-2007 Well, I've had an idea for solving it concerning purely legal stuff. A special, admin-issued ID, allowing the use of battleships. If a player wants to get a battleship, he'd have to get that special ID. And for that he'd have to meet several conditions, as in being a clan leader, having the cash etc... And if someone would be caught flying a Battleship, without the ID (easy to monitor, battleship chars are normally high-level), He'd risk losing the char without refund. How does that sound? Battleship problem - fwolf - 05-25-2007 It might be a solution, but it will be necessary to have a Battleship ID for each faction. For example: instead of a Navy ID, a liberty navy admiral will carry a Navy Admiral ID. We can do the same for cruisers, with a Cruiser ID for each faction. Following the same example, a liberty navy captain will carry a Navy Captain ID, giving him permission to pilot the cruiser. Gunboats dont need such ID. They can be bought normally. They are good as they are now, dont need to be made stronger, nor weaker. What we really need now is a police version for the house gunboats, without forward guns. For pirates, we need a updated version of the Death Scythe, and also a pirate bomber. Conditions to have the ID can be: being part of a player faction and having the required rank, or having a nice story explaining how you acquired that ship and for what (something that most capships owners dont do anyway). Battleship problem - Panzer - 05-25-2007 I'm having the same thought. Poof, there'd have to be a lot of new IDs... 2 more for each NPC/PC faction. Or making generic capship owner IDs. One for lawfuls, one for pirates, one for terrorists, maybe even nomads could get a slice? Faction leaders/high-ranking members... In that case, imo, individuals should be denied the possibility to own capships. Individuals as in Freelancing Outcast dreadnoughts. And the faction's normal IDs must allow battleships. Battleship problem - Spacewolf - 05-25-2007 do the people who spent half there half term on the incredibly boring honsu run to get engoth cash to buy one have to sell it at about 1/4 of the original price then? Battleship problem - Dab - 05-25-2007 Temp, I agree, except for GBs. GBs should be available to individuals. Also, the IDs could improve SOME role-play, but would do nothing to solve the BS problem. They'd simply need a different ID.. Then they wouldn't be able to have their NPC-alignment ID. I'm agreeing that BSs should be restricted to factions. Cruisers and below available to everyone, but BSs be restricted. Admins could go put it on Lost Bstar, then give a char neutrality with the station to get the ship, then get off and they get made hostile again, or just modding the ship into the player's files. Hmm, better idea. sort of like a Nexus. Admin moves player in there, there are enough bases to hold all BSs. You go where yours is at, buy it. Then admin moves you out. There would be no JH/JG into, or out of, the system. Battleship problem - Panzer - 05-25-2007 Intriguing. Encountered something like this on another mod. Worked as a prison for rule-breakers, but nevertheless (Speaking of it, there could be a prison place, hellish backgrounds and nasty NPCs flying around, no way in or out) Well, and since the Battleships will get so hard to get, they'll have to resemble the Titans form EVE in quite a few manners (oh, yeah, done my homework) First : price. As I already suggested, parted between shield, armor, sensor array, weaponry and loads of others so that in the end, one cost soewhere around 4-5bil. Actually, even now a full-option battleship costs around 1 bil. With the price raise, their stats will have to go up accordingly. (Make the shield unpenetrable to any fighter weapons) Now let's see, what happens if this idea passes. There'll have to be a wipe... Simply put. I remember a wipe from BK, after that virus got them out of balance Was quite refreshing. Only thing I missed was my complete map on 1 char. Battleship problem - fwolf - 05-25-2007 Yeah but the wipe on BK got our money back. I got 1.5 billion at the time, including the 200 million that they give to everybody. I dont liked the wipe though, as I had to put a lot of characters back. |
