There is no mod required to go widescreen for Discovery.

Look here:

Once you've got that working, apply the Hudshift mod.

Result: Widescreen resolution with a correctly positioned HUD.

I found that the updated version doesn't have ANY problems, for me at least:
http://hd-fl.upperlevel.org/index.php?sect...d=newestversion
That works great, no more problem, it's in German, but should be good enough.

I am using the HQ music as well, I don't notice THAT much of a difference, and I think it unpacks about a gig, but I use it.

I give a thumbs up.

I also use realistic lighting at 10%

And HudShift at my resolution 1680x1050.

That's all. Hope that HD-Textures thing works for you guys, as the update one did for me.

Here are some screenshots. Just check the gallery.

One of my main problems was Gallic stuff, which is foreign to Vanilla Freelancer, but it works great when You use this updated version.

I think that the thing that is MOST affected, is the planets, they looks nice from far away, but still a little ugly, up close.

These screenshots include: Realistic Lighting 20%, Bloom Enables, HD Textures v1.21, and Adoxa's Hudshift Resolution fix.

Click the pictures, to enlarge.

Btw, this hd texture pack doesn't mess with foreign textured ships, like the firefly, it's still ugly.
But, only vanilla and/or vanilla textured discovery ships are pushed up in quality.

EDIT: One problem was that I couldn't see my hud unless I undocked. Now, just following this link for 1680, 1050... http://discoverygc.com/forums/index.php?sh...104116&st=0 First post.

I don't have to undock, it saves me a few seconds of time, if I want to get on my trader.

EDIT 2: My navmap has fixed itself, the numbers and letters are now in the right spot.

Update:

Jason's Freelancer patch can be considered giving an advantage to players, because it allows some hotkeys or something, I didn't pay attention to it.

But, I did remove it, no more Navmap fix D:.

If you mean the HD Texture Pack, then screenshots are available on the website of the original creator, showing comparisons between vanilla and the mod.

With the risk of digging this...

No other approved graphics mods ? I would so much love to see an approved mod that adds better textures,
processing effects (bloom, maybe HDR too, DOF, etc), you name it...

Freelancer is a good game, alright...but seriously, when i close Eve or X3 and start FL, i feel like i'm throwing my machine out the window and returning to the stone age.

No offense :)

As a pinned thread, you won't be punished for gravedigging.

You will find that the Discovery mod already comes with a Bloom package bundled with it. Use of it is determined when activating the mod; you need select turning it on as it is turned off by default.

Since the game itself is relatively old, there are some limitations as to what can be achieved.

As for HD textures; somewhere in this topic you will find links to a HD textures mod. However, that was not cleared by Cannon. Whether he has chosen not to approve it, or simply hasn't had the time (most likely) I don't know.

Currently, I have bloom enabled, and the realistic lighting mod enabled. Also, since I have a widescreen resolution, I'm using the hudshift mod as well. If you can't get the hudshift package to work, let me know and I'll give you some more detailed foolproof instructions.

However, in some areas, the game is bright enough as it is (think of the white-coloured ice nebulae). If you fly into these areas with bloom enabled you will get blinded.
Therefore, if you press Ctrl + Shift + F9 while in game, it will toggle from bloom to "anti-bloom" which defines the shadows better rather than emphasising bright points.

Thanks for the reply.

Already aware of that bloom .dll, and using realistic lightning + hudshift + hidamari's.

However, i would give it a go with the textures, even though it means risking a bit...

Thanks again!
