and people should only be allowed to post if they have a solution to a present Issue about the faction,

All post in a feedback tread should be constructive, full of solutions and respectfull.

That way, people complaining without any constructive comments just to bring down a faction can't post .

Its a bit UTOPIC,, I know........
You can't stop people from posting, but any posts that aren't relevant should be ignored, if it's not a post on the current faction and how it can be brought in line with the standard expected from a new proposal, it's wrong. Once each thread becomes a feedback thread, then it is up to the faction's to anser each post with calmness and rationality. Common sense is the watchword here.

Before anyone asks if I expect levelheadedness from everyone, no, I don't but I do expect it from anyone who would choose to lead a faction

Honestly.
They are going to be complaints. The whole point is to create an open place where people are expected to point out things that are wrong with factions, or could be better. Things such as, to cite treewyrm's experience: "I have, in my own experience, never seen RP from a keeper other than Harb" And if someone can honestly say that, or anything of the sort, can you claim that there isn't a problem? I've seen many factions doing whatever they like, with never anything approaching the community imput that Keepers and phantoms attract, just by being admin controlled factions. Right now, if someone has a complaint against a faction, then there are probably others with a similar complaint, and if someone were to post said complaint, they would be told to take it to PMs, regardless of the content, which entirely defeats the purpose of having a forum.

The whole point is to bring complaints against factions, and maybe help the community become a better place, much like the point of the faction request forum in general. The only other option than this is to continue as we have before, waiting for someone to erupt in flames about a faction that they have not been allowed to question. A faction that quite possibly makes no sense. So, yes, there will be debate. People will come to the door of someone's beloved faction, and nail up their theses, and people will feel alienated by that. But anyone ignoring those theses has just made their faction that much poorer.

Disco's a great place. It could be better, and arguing against it by citing the immaturity of the community is as ludicrous as claiming that disco is a tyrany.

We would obviously need dedicated effort for the filtering. If you are seriously willing for the feedback of any faction, you should also be ready to participate in the responsibility of injecting the common sense whenever it is needed..

Hmm.

It might be nice... but past experiences have been bad.

For instance, every thread in which a reasoned debate against the Asgard Warriors was brought up, it was locked to be 'discussed later' due to some people being unreasonable.

I would be, I would not suggest this if I wasn't willing to aid it in some way, even if it's just to pop into a thread to say "tone it down folks".

I would suggest that such threads be locked, cleaned and the offending parties be advised to "post elsewhere" for a short duration.

The problem there is that it stops the discussion.

If I, for instance, didn't like the way the discussion was headed, I could break out the flamethrower in order to get the thread locked without a consensus being reached. This has happened before.

Official Faction Spring Cleaning - Othman - 04-05-2008

So it is about the purpose at all..
If someone is ill-wished from the beginning, the discussion will go downhill whatever you try to do as of filtering..

I missed the point of re-opening the discussion afterwards, the discussion would "recess" for a short while, but it would never stop. That's the glory of forum based discussion it can always pick up from exactly where it left off, provided that point is a calm and relevant point.

Plus I'd suggest heavy penalties for anyone doing it.

Official Faction Spring Cleaning - bluntpencil2001 - 04-05-2008

Sounds good. It has a strong possibility of working well, then... but it might require a lot of moderator assistance, at least for the first few weeks.

Official Faction Spring Cleaning - mwerte - 04-05-2008

Because, telling people stop their flame wars will ALWAYS work...

Idea is good, but like Tree I'm a little concerned that this will turn into bashing either a faction or a faction's events or a certain person in said faction...

Could we test it with a faction to see how it goes before making it mandatory? Say, QCRF since Unselie seems so eager to do this.

Edit: You're going to penalize somebody's persona, a Character in-game, for something they said on the forum? It's happened before but IMO it leads to heavy-handed admining and a place where people CANNOT disagree with the admins.
