Supernovas! - Blodo - 05-07-2008

Quite frankly I see this development of faction SNs as entirely in RP, considering how everyone had access to artifacts and the Order made the mistake of giving the SN accessible to the Zoners from where the whole of Sirius learned about it. That's how I see it anyways.

The PvP reason is also worth considering. Capship swarms would become worse if factions wouldn't be able to field anything more than razors against them.

Oh and about the Lilith: I thought the Rogues and Hackers already work together? It would make plenty of sense for Hackers to get their hands on the Lilith, considering it is also their project.

Supernovas! - Clayph - 05-07-2008

Oh wow! I went to school and when I return, two pages popped up here..

I have a few things to say..

1. This was designed and proposed (and hopefully balanced) on my personal experiences
with Bomber piloting. It just pissed me off to see Order weapon hanging on my Nomad Bomber, but knowing
that the Bomber would be absolutely useless without it. Same when I had a Bomber of faction that could technically never meet Order.
Tenacity, please buy a Bomber and fly it for some while before making statements like this. Have anyone of you actually tried Nova Torpedo in real fight against capships? It drains same energy as Supernova (when you fire two at once) and there is like 30% chance you will survive your own torpedoes (that if you are good and he is sucker).

2. In 4.85 we will have year 817 A.S.. Technology in that age is very sophisticated and evolves literally
with each passing day. Order was the only faction that had something like Supernova available and since
they managed to adapt the Antimatter technology for so many classes of ships, the technology should obviously
(as everything in Sirius) spread to be known to wider and wider spectrum of people. Order learned
many things from the excavation sites on Nauru. Why not the technology of containing and even using
Dark Matter, one of the least known substances in Sirius, for military purposes?

3. I want to add new dimension and diversity to anti-capital ship weaponry. Jinx if you think that we should
all pack our Supernovas and fight these 'ROFLCOPTERs, KAYs, TRusT_nO_oNes' in Corsair Dreadnoughts
with Mini Razors, I would love to see someone actually accomplish that.

4. I can rename the the Lilith to Rogue/Hacker Particle Cannon, if you wish. If I would scrap it
(and I don't want to do that, because Blodo wrote so damn good flavor texts), the Rogues and
Hackers would have to travel to the systems 'they could never know of' like Omicron Alpha.

There are billions of people in whole Sirius. Our gaming community present 0,001 percent of that. We could
take all factions as the 'Elite' of the factions.. For example RHA has 20 +- members - but Red Hessians
have thousands of members. The gaming community are the few that can know about locations like
Crete and Malta in my humble opinion.

EDIT: One more thing.. I have heard various opinions on the new Supernovas names.. For example Maat,
it sounds bad to some people. Maat was the ancient Egyptian goddess of law, order and justice. But if you
would like better names (speaking about all of the Supernovas) please post them here and if they get good
feedback, I will be happy to change the name as you want it.

EDIT2: I have decided about the conditions of sale. These weapons will be sold on guard bases. You don't
need to have full guard rep (that would take aaaaages) but you just need to be neutral to dock with the base.
That means if you are Gaian, you need to be friendly with Corsairs enough to be neutral with Corsair Guard.
However to be able to buy Auraka you will just need to bribe Zoners once and buy the weapon on a Freeport.
(Auraka selling points will be placed across all the Sirius on various Freeports, so you won't have to go too OORP
to obtain one.)

No need to scrap, just what I meant was to emphasize that silly effort which Rouges put into creating their own 'SN' was nothing in comparision with what the Lane Hackers put into their own development basing on Rouge's lil invention.

All in all I hope that we will see effects of you hard work in next mod version.

"Jinx if you think that we should

not at all. - the attempt was more to leave the order the "edge" over other torpedo users, cause their special role and low numbers justify their high tech weaponry.

i was simply musing with the idea to actually improve an existing but never used weapon for all houses/factions rather than to copy one that everyone uses in an ooRP way. ( that means, novas ) - novas have been around for a long time, supernovas only been introduces with x.84.... so it was rather meant as a way to make the novas useful, as what they are supposed to be... anti cap weapons, - but leave them a totally different weaponclass than the supernova, which is the next step in developement - made by the order.

now, that there appears no way to improve a real torpedo to usefulness... i guess giving each faction a supernova in a different colour is the only way to go. - i find that rather sad, - but at least it fights the ooRPness. - still, we have a whole weapon that is useless. adding up to more of the weapons that had a good idea behind them, but turned out to be useless ( flak for example )

the idea behind the nova was to limit the overkill ability of bombers by adding ammo to their main ability. - and it would have worked out fine, if the nova was doing the damage it is intended to do. - but it too often simply poofs without an effect, - and its tracking ability is abysmal for its speed.

so, the supernova turned out to be superior in all, ammo, speed, aiming ability. - maybe we can at least use the nova weapon to make something innovative, something new... maybe a torp based inferno for everyone. - a huge shield blaster of the civilian line.

Supernovas! - Treewyrm - 05-07-2008

Nova Torpedo is currently rather useless for reasons mentioned above and before many times, those reasons arise from technical difficulties implementing such weapon(s). I think most of us remember where it has ended with Flak turrets, a concept different but utilizing same game mechanics. In order to make high splash damage weapons useful, such as anti capital ship torpedoes (similar to those we can see in Freespace games) and balanced a vast amount of work is required. Not that its is not real, it's far real, but would require certain changes within the environment that will no doubt affect may other aspects of gameplay, and as such must be taken into account.

Yeah.. I changed the Arbiter to be Pulse cannon. Although it is not shieldbuster,
I think it suits it's effect much more (and it is the same damage type as Laser).
The last image is the Arbiter itself.

Supernovas! - Robert.Fitzgerald - 05-07-2008

What is the Arbiter noted as? Weapon-type wise.

I'm just thinking about shield damage multipliers.

Supernovas! - Clayph - 05-07-2008

Alright I'll make it laser type.. :P

Supernovas! - mjolnir - 05-07-2008

Uhhh? Did I miss something?

Are they to have shield-specific damage?

Note that now no torpslot weapon has it not even the inferno that says "Tachyon" in the infocard.

EDIT: I don't really think it's so good idea... would have to look on the balancing again... but 60k shield + 20% = 72k, -20% =48

So if the graviton shield dominance stays... you get outcast one with 72k shield damage.. vs say Kusari with 48k.

Supernovas! - Robert.Fitzgerald - 05-07-2008

The thing is Mjolnir, with these new mortars coming out, graviton dominance will diminish.

Mr. Graviton Osiris would get owned by Outcast bombers

Molecular OC battleship would get owned by (whatever is effective against molecular).

And so forth.

Edit: the current graviton thing is nonsense, shield busters aren't that dangerous to larger craft.
