Discovery 4.83 Beta 1 Release - Nightfall - 02-08-2007 I think Onca may be right there. It was not too easy hitting a gunboat even with 500m/s. Discovery 4.83 Beta 1 Release - Dab - 02-08-2007 Keep in mind the purpose of the torpedoes in general, and the nova in particular, was to attack battleships and cruisers. Gunboats are small and agile for the specific purpose of stopping fighters and bombers that are a thread to the larger ships. It SHOULDN'T be easy to hit a gunboat with the nova. Discovery 4.83 Beta 1 Release - Nightfall - 02-09-2007 Yes Dab, I agree, I said it wasn't too easy. I'm certain it's not easy now. With the Nova slower, even the Battleships will be able to dodge to some degree. Not that it makes so much damageto a battleship for it to be nerfed that much. Discovery 4.83 Beta 1 Release - DBoy1612 - 02-09-2007 Ok, question. What happened to the Colonial Viper. The thing now moves like a rock. My Tiiadan Bomber moves better then that thing. Can you please put it back to the way it was. Discovery 4.83 Beta 1 Release - onca - 02-09-2007 ' Wrote:Ok, question. What happened to the Colonial Viper. The thing now moves like a rock. My Tiiadan Bomber moves better then that thing. Yea same here! I have owned a Viper for the last 3 incarnations of Disco, and I have seen it go steadily down hill to the atrocious state it's in now. The Viper has the slowest maneuverability of all the fighters, and in a dogfight it performs very poorly. Looking at its turning stats (not that I do that kind of thing:P), the bucket-of-bolts turns *worse* than a Titan (61 deg/sec). It is only *slightly* better than a freighter (50 deg/sec). Get that... a supposedly sleek VHF that handles like a freight-pulling tub! Eight Nomad NPCs, kiss your shield goodbye, especially in an asteroid field where you're bouncing all over the place. Only your small hitbox saves you... whereas in the past Viper would clean the floor with Nomads. Viper used to be one of the coolest & deadliest warbirds in Disco.... but now it's just a turkey. It's a case of a ship that was too good, and so has been inexorably nerfed out of the game. Breaks my heart to see it so. I'd rather have an Eagle or Werewolf any day. (right Dab?;)) o. Discovery 4.83 Beta 1 Release - Yngen - 02-09-2007 I might add that the Colonial Viper is not just a novelty ship anymore. There is an entire 15 person faction on this server who will be flying nothing but vipers and Battlestars soon. The viper has one of the lowest armor ratings of the VHFs to boot. The degree to which it has been nerfed is uncalled for. The hit box has been fixed for 2 versions now. There was never anything wrong with its manueverability 2 versions ago because of its light armor. The Viper should turn faster than any of the ships that out armor it. Discovery 4.83 Beta 1 Release - Panzer - 02-09-2007 I had a chance to test the viper in combat just yesterday and I must agree. While previously, even despite the already lowered performance, I could hold my own during battle, PvP especially, now I'm an easier target than a freighter. Perhaps this is being done for a purpose? The sole purpose of balancing ships? Maybe. But as yet, balancing meant decreasing good ships stats to a pont, where they no longer were something worth purcahsing. In other words: Should all fighters be equally bad? Or maybe the give and take rule should be seriously applied? Actually, it is rather logical, that something light will move faster and be more agile. I will quote something about the viper's manouverability now. (From the original series)"Can rotate 180 degrees vertically in .35 seconds" (Act of Contrition episode). Maybe such turn rate would be far too big for Freelancer needs, but For a fighter of it's size and armor, why on earth (and in Sirius:shok:) does it handle as a brick? Discovery 4.83 Beta 1 Release - Dab - 02-09-2007 Yngen is right. It was justfine where it was last version.I was fighting with two people that had Vipers last night. The Kushan Freighter with a level 7 TRANSPORT shield was easily outturning them, and until my more agile fighter arrived, they couldn't do anythign to either ship. Not because of lack of skill, but because the other ships including the freighter could fly circles around them. Its agility is lower than the Rheinland bomber from the looks of it. Viper needs put back to exactly as it was in the last version. We do need to fix the freighters though. Ships that small should NOT have transport shields. Not at all. Too small for it, its unbalanced. We need to do something about it. Perhaps change the freighter shields to be at level 6 for highest, instead of 7, then change all freighter shields to be level 6. Freighter - 1-6 Transports - 7 Gunboats - 8 Cruisers - 9 Battleships - 10 This will fix freighters equipping unfair shields, such as the Kushan with its level 9 and 10 turrets, lots of energy, and transport shield.. That was referring to a different ship, the viper mk2. If you really want to get technical, (stop groaning everyone,) the Cylon raider should be the VHF in this mod, and the Colonial Viper a HF. The Cylon raider has always been the heavier more powerful fighter in new or old versions. Since the Cylon raider model used in discovery is the old version, it should be a VHF as it is piloted by 3 centurions in full chrome armor. The Colonial viper has always been traditionally a lighter and quicker fighter than the cylon. BSG nerd goggles off Discovery 4.83 Beta 1 Release - Korrd - 02-09-2007 ' Wrote:I have an inquiry... What happened to the Rheinland bomber? I haven't had time to test it, yet and am curious. And if nothing, what do you plan on doing with it, if anything? The RH bomber has not been touched. But the novas have now less range, and are slower. So hitting a fighter with the novas is way harder now. I tried last night, against a player-controlled defender, and i could not nova it. |
