Sir!

Sorry to break protocol sir, but I thought maybe there was a communication error concerning Ashley Valent. Three days ago she turned herself in regarding an open case of yours, Trion Freeport, and Officer Brooke Windsor took her statement, and forwarded it for your attention. Upon completion I was assigned to watch her while she waited for your review under house arrest. The kid has been incredibly patient, and shows no signs of going anywhere, a model civvie if ever I saw one, Sir. However I am a little concerned that she has been under these conditions for almost three days now and we haven't even charged her, if we intend to at all.

I just thought I'd check the datafile actually reached your desk, Sir. I don't forsee any issues, but legally I'm worried we're detaining her far beyond what we should already, and she is still a minor...

Greetings, Sergeant Rafferty.

Unfortunately the report by Ensign Windsor has yet to cross my desk, so the specifics of the matter regarding MIss Valent are unknown to me. However, as she is a suspect in case regarding national security her detention is standard procedure, therefore you will keep her under lock and key until ordered otherwise. It seems unlikely that a "child" acted alone in building a modular facility in restricted space, so the more she sweats it out, the more likely we'll learn who else is involved.

Sir!

Thankyou for your response Sir. I've let Ashley Valent know there has been a delay in her paperwork. She said she's happy to continue waiting, as she came forward voluntarily after all. She also said to let you know she hasn't heard any messages at all from [TI]Lancer in the past four days, whoever that is. I think it's case related...

Sir,

I require the redeployment of some aditional marines, and make sure to send a squad psych. As of 16:00 today I'm upgrading the security status on Ashley Valent to suicide watch. Over the past few days of her week long detention her status has severely deterioate from the giggling, chatty individual who first came to us with intel to someone you have to work hard with to draw out three words. And for Republics sake make sure this is done on the QT. If the newsies get wind of how we're treating a voluntary witness who's come forward there'll be riots!

Greetings, Sergeant Rafferty.

It still seems that I have yet to have a report filed by Ensign Windsor concerning her discussion with Miss Valent cross my desk. This is unfortunate, but will be dealt with internally.

As to the matter of Miss Valent herself, I find it disconserting that her behavior has changed so radically within a week's time. I'm not a psychologist, but it makes me wonder as to her previous mental health that she'd go from chipper to suicidal so quickly. Regardless, a psychologist will be dispatched to talk with her post haste. Once her mental state has been confirmed as normal, an intelligence officer will arrive to take her statement. The redundancy is unfortunate, but necessary given the lack of information I currently possess. Her full statement, including any information regarding this "Lancer" person, is to be transmitted on this channel once obtained. I'll make further evaluations upon receiving that report.

And Sergeant Rafferty, we are dealing with a matter of national security, and such precautions are standard in cases like this. There will be no "leaks" on this case.

I trust that the above is abundantly clear.

Vice Admiral Polstari, signing off.

Sir,

I've tranfered her to the medibay of her ship. Ms. Ashley Valent has made an attempt on her life, and we've had to sedate her. The pyche has completed her initial analysis and has diagnosed her with acute autophobia which he believes upon further investigation was possibly a result of loosing her mother shortly after her birth which explains her initial personality, and her rapid decline in health as a result of confinement.

During some of her more lucid moment I have discovered she had set up her ship to record all passengers that come aboard so luckily I can send her initial inverview with Officer Windsor to you (when she came forward to make a statement to aid your inquirys) at the end of this transmission.

The medics say her condition is unlikely to improve until her confinement and isolation ends, and she will require prolonged therapy to fully recover. Possibly for years to come. She is currently catatonic, but they believe she may be able to speak to someone if one of the marines onboard stays with her and she keeps taking the sedatives while they do the interview. Medics say she can be ready to see someone now no sooner than Tuesday afternoon on or after 4pm GMT. If you can come or send someone over to Manhattan spaceport bay SKYPE-04 (the I.D. on the bay should read Ashley_Valent) at that time we can hopefully end this... situation and get her some proper treatment.

I wish to go on record at this time as strongly objecting to the handling of this affair to date.

If I was given permission to speak freely, I would say whichever coms specialist bureaucrat misfiled Officer Windsor's report should be severely reprimanded and she <Valent> should have been given a checkup by a medic days ago before I called them in, catching her condition before it became critical, or at the very least lessened her fall into depression with a fresh social interaction.

Greetings, Sergeant Rafferty.

First to the matter at hand. You are to deliver the following datapad to Miss Valent. It contains the summary of charges and expected reparations to the Republic of Liberty. You will then return her acknowledgement and proof of compliance on this channel.

Datapad Wrote:By self made admission of Ashley Valent, the subject is charged under Section Two Article I and Section Four Article III of the Laws of Liberty for supplying an illegal base and breaking the embargo against Rheinland. Mitigating circumstances have been taken into consideration for the voluntary disclosure of this information and intelligence on the operators of the illegal station known as Freeport Trion. As such, a fine of twenty-five million (25.000.000) Sirius Credits is levied and payable to the account [LN]-Armory.001 within the next 72 hours. Timestamped proof of transaction is required. Upon confirmation of the transfer you will be free to leave house arrest and resume legal activity within the House of Liberty.

Make sure that Miss Valent receives and understands the datapad's contents.

As for you, Sergeant, I find that I have given no liberty to speak your mind, and yet you presume to do so anyway. This is unbecoming of a Liberty Force Marine, and will be made note of in your official record. Pending a disciplinary board's hearing further action may be taken. That will be all.

Vice Admiral Polstari, signing off.

Sir,

One: The kid was not a station administrator so section 2 article 1 is irrelavant.
Two: By the self same laws you just quoted in section 4 the house of liberty claim Hudson as Liberty space, therefore Ash never trasported any cargo into Rhineland.

Regardless of this, since the kid cant afford the fine me and the boys and girls assigned here will do a whipround and get you thugs your blood money so we can get the kid to a decent hospital.

Just so you are aware.
Detention without Charge

If the custody officer decides that there is insufficient evidence to charge you, then you must be released. If the custody officer has reasonable grounds for believing that detention without charge is necessary to secure or preserve evidence relating to an offence for which you are under arrest, or to obtain such evidence by questioning you, he or she may order further police detention. The grounds for the detention must be recorded in writing on the custody record. You must be told what these grounds are.

Detention without charge cannot be authorised in your own interest, or to prevent the repetition or continuation of an offence, or to authorise police fishing trips as the evidence must relate to an offence for which you are under arrest. If the custody officer has reasonable grounds to believe that you will not answer questions - for example, because your solicitor has said so - detention cannot be extended to obtain evidence by questioning. Detention for questioning in such circumstances may well be unlawful.

Article 18 (2)Big Grineprivation of liberty or any other kind of restraint of liberty is inadmissible unless there is a court decision.

(3): A person may be detained only by an authorized officer and he/she must be presented to the court no later than 48 hours after arrest. The court must make a decision in the following 24 hours. In the event a court does not make a decision on the arrest or restraint of liberty, the detainee must be immediately released.

(7): A person who was unlawfully detained or arrested may request compensation.

Come after the poor girl again, and I will guarantee that we here will make sure IMG is notified of all the particulars of this case, including my own copies of these transmissions which I'm sure they will subpoena. You can expect to loose far more than the 25 you just gained through your torture.

And dont bother noting this in my file, as of 10 minutes before this transmission my squad tendered its resignation from LN.

Greetings, Former Sergeant Rafferty.

I have confirmed that your, donation, on Miss Valent's behalf has been received. She is of course free to go as previously stated.

As for you, you are not so free to depart. Your understanding of Liberty Law is clearly lacking in the matter regarding the stated sections I forwarded on the datapad. But that's neither here nor there at this time. What does matter are your threats against the Republic.

Your understanding of torture is laughable if you think that being held under house arrest while formal charges are brought forth constitutes as such. Why, if being held on a luxury liner for a week constitutes torture, I would gladly allow Rheinland to do such to our captured pilots. The reports I've received from our retrieved pilots say otherwise, however.

Your and your squad will not be held on a luxury liner, though. Threats of extortion against the Republic in time of war regarding a national security threat is treason, and will be dealt with as such. You will find that the Liberty Security Force is quite vigilant in dealing with such threats, and I have forwarded everything regarding your behavior and actions to their office. This channel is now closed between us, and I doubt we'll ever talk to each other again.

Good bye, Mister Rafferty.

Vice Admiral Polstari, signing off.
