OSI Corporate Offices(InRP) - Omicron Supply Industries - 07-03-2013 ![]() Entering the large building, you see before you several corridors lined with doors. Each of the doors holds a plaque stating which office the room beyond is. From here, authorized visitors can make there way to the offices of any of the Directors of Omicron Supply Industries. A visitor need only ask the secretary at the desk where the office they seek is. RE: OSI Corporate Offices(InRP) - Doc Holliday - 07-03-2013 John Holliday arrives at the office of Omicron Supplies. It has been some time since he last had a formal meeting with some old friends. While they had their differences, they were still Zoners and friends. Doc arrived oddly dressed. A robe adorned him but he wasn't in his typical TAZ robes. He was also very angry but maintained his politeness to the secretary. He removed his hat and gave a bow, "Madam, I do believe that Mr. Duncan Stow is expecting me." RE: OSI Corporate Offices(InRP) - Dourden4 - 07-04-2013 The secretary looked up from the console she was working at, and smiled at the man before her. "Yes. Mr. Holliday correct? Right this way sir." With that she rose and proceeded to walk down the hall to the right of the desk. Looking over her shoulder to make sure that the gentleman was following her, she stopped at the door directly at the end of the hall. Pulling the door open, she turns. "Mr. Stow is waiting for you sir" She then walked back to the desk and resumed her work. The office is typical, a desk and several chairs with various adornments littering the walls. Duncan Stow sits behind his desk, watching his console with interest. He stands as Doc enters his office. "Doctor Holliday" he says extending a hand " Duncan Stow, CEO of Omicron Supply Industries. Please come in and make yourself comfortable." Moving to the door, he shuts it and enters a numeric sequence. The door locks and activates a signal to the secretary that he is not to be disturbed. He then returns to his desk, gesturing for Doc to have a seat. " Its good to see you again. I believe we met once before at another summit you hosted. I was filling in for Victor Cross if memory serves." He pauses, composing himself. "You'll forgive me if I dispense with the usual pleasantries, This is after all far more than a friendly call." He folds his hands in front of him on the desk. "How can I help you Doctor?" RE: OSI Corporate Offices(InRP) - Doc Holliday - 07-05-2013 Doc was upset and getting comfortable was something he just couldn't do. He couldn't sit and took only a glass of water after the men shook hands. His hand behind his back, he simply began, "Yes, I do remember seeing you. It is good to see you again." Doc paused a moment. He slowly paced. "I don't need to explain to you what has been going on with our home world and the mess we're having to clean up," he explained, "I've already written death certificates for far too many people that I've never heard of or even knew existed on our world, all victims to inquisition so it seems. I'm sure you've seen the carnage for yourself." He stopped in mid-pace and closed his eyes, on obvious move to keep himself composed. He continued, "I came to OSI today to work with you to seek a solution. I came today not so much as TAZ but as a resident of Gran Canaria. While there is no central government here, it seems people look to me still as a voice. I don't feel right about that. I don't speak for OSI or any other group." He turned, walking back the other way, "I opposed the re-creation of another Council, of making a unified Zoner government but now I wonder, having seen what happened here and thinking of how the Zoners lost planet Erie to Liberty, should we do something at least locally?" Doc sighed and took a seat. He helplessly looked to Stow, "I'm afraid my mind is so scrambled right now that I can't think all that clearly. I just know that we can't sit idle after this. It's beginning to look as if the Corsairs are making an attempt at conquest. Was the Coalition right?" He sat, obviously lost and disturbed, taking a sip of water. RE: OSI Corporate Offices(InRP) - Dourden4 - 07-05-2013 Duncan sat and listened to the obviously agitated Doc as he spoke his mind. Once Doc had finished, Duncan stood and began gazing out the large windows overlooking the countryside. After a moment he spoke. " Yes, I am well aware of the current situation. And You are correct that the lack of an organized response has hampered any efforts we may have made. This conflict is a terrible thing, and the loss of innocent lives only makes it worse. In a move I had hoped would stem the losses, I have already ordered OSI Security forces into orbit and on interdiction missions against any who would bombard our Planet." Duncan paused, his gaze passing over one of the many camps being used as shelter by untold numbers of people. "As I stated in my own personal response to these declarations by the Corsairs and the Coalition, I consider this an attack on our right to be free. The problem, as you pointed out, is the lack of a central government. That system works exceedingly well most of the time. It is only times like these, when we realize that the power that body would give us is truly needed." Duncan turns and walks to his desk. He places his hands upon the top, and leans heavily on it. "OSI also opposed the formation of a large Zoner council, as experience had shown that they do not work. Local government, however is a different matter. We have seen that if kept on small scales, these sort of councils can and do work." Duncan pauses for a breath. "Perhaps you've heard of the Confederation of Southern Freeports? This is a rather successful smaller council that has been around for some time now. That organization proves that the smaller scale councils can work." Duncan moves to his chair and sits, leaning back heavily. "I'll be honest with you Doctor, the subject of Gran Canaria's leadership has been coming up amongst the boards discussions often lately. OSI holds many assets on the planet and in orbit. We stand at the point of having the needed weight to hold authority. The primary reason we have not, is that I intended to honor the old agreements between the large Zoner groups. No one of us should claim this wonderful place." He sits forward, folding his hands before him once again. " Like yourself, I do not claim to speak for other groups of Zoners, or any Zoner not of the OSI organization. But all that said, We cannot sit idlely by as war ravages our world. Especially when that war is not of our making. I have asked that both the Coalition and the Corsairs withdraw from the planet and its space, but I am afraid that my word alone does not hold the significant power needed to sway them." Duncan sighs, and begins to rub lightly at his temples. " Doctor, we must do something, with that statement I agree. The question is what? You have mentioned the possibility of a local Government, but who would lead? It is obvious that there is a great need for this government to be established, but besides Myself and you I do not know of any suitable to lead this new government." " It is always hard to tell the intent of peoples that are at war with another. What is truth? What is lies? What is just propaganda? The political landscape is a rocky one at best, difficult to navigate through easily. But what if the Corsairs are making a grab for Gran Canaria? Would we go to war? Would we cast off the mantle of neutrality we have made to defend this world? The people of this world look to you Doctor. You are greatly respected, and your words hold much weight for the Zoner community. Tell me, What are you thinking is the best way to proceed?" RE: OSI Corporate Offices(InRP) - Doc Holliday - 07-05-2013 It was obvious that Doc's mind was anywhere but in diplomacy. Death, destruction and invasion had totally clouded that judgement. Somehow, he dug deeper to concentrate. Shaking his head, he stood back up. Standing sideways to Duncan, he just stood facing a wall. "That's the problem," he said, "my words weight heavy. When there is a problem with the Zoners, it seems I'm the one they go looking for." He turned to Duncan, "I'm sure you've seen the transmissions of people looking for a Council of Zoners or whatever." He gave a quick hmph, "I more or less told the Corsairs and the Coalition to go home, to take their resources with them and leave. Apparently, they didn't hear that, maybe because it wasn't the answer they wanted. Maybe what the Coalition says is true about the Sairs wanting our homeworld." He took out his datapad and sent a link to Duncan, "Please, judge for yourself." He paused momentarily and repeated a part of the message, "The loss of Artemis is to be blamed on you and the zoners, why the zoners? Because they did not help when the Artemis was getting shot." He sat down again. "If we call to arms, if we call for help, if we accept offers of help then it goes against everything we are. To form even a small government here would place the "blood of all Zoners" upon that persons decisions. To be aggressive would ruin our own trade routes, to put the lives of people in every Freeport in jeopardy. I'm not sure I want that job nor do I suspect you would either." He sat back, "I don't know, Mr. Stow, I just don't know." RE: OSI Corporate Offices(InRP) - Dourden4 - 07-07-2013 Duncan sat in quiet contemplation as Doc grew silent. The fact that this man was in his office seemingly at odds with himself weighed heavily on him. Duncan knew his next words could have significant impact on the respected ambassador before him. Duncan drew a long breath, and looked up at his friend and collegue. " It seems that Zoner neutrality only applies for our neighbors when it suits them. The long spans of time in which we have not taken sides mean nothing to them now, at least as their actions now show. " Duncan looks out the window before returning to looking at Doc. " I feel that this might be a good time to ask this. What are we Doctor? What is it that prevents us from protecting that which is ours? How would a call to arms equate to a betrayal of who we are?" Duncan looks around the room, to the many adornments that cover the walls. There are trinkets from many different parts of Sirius, some from areas that are openly warring with each other. " Any form of Zoner government would place a large amount of power and responsibility on the chosen leaders shoulders. As you have stated, it would not be an enviable position, but a needed one. We can only hope that should the position be filled, the one who does would be able to exercise the needed thought and restraint. Perhaps what we need is less of a government, and perhaps more of a court. Someplace where we Zoners of influence can meet to decide matters of this magnitude. No laws. No rules. But a place where violations of our neutrality can be dealt with. " Duncan's gaze returns to his guest. "Doctor, the way I see it, we have but two choices. We can stay neutral, survive this conflict as best we can and deal with whatever the outcome or we can stand up and eject the troublemakers from our world. It has been standing principle among Zoners for generations that troublemakers in our homes will be removed. Why stop that policy now?" Duncan sighs. "It is quite obvious that neither the Coalition nor the Corsairs will leave on our words alone. They both seem to think the other will gain a stronger presence if they do leave. The unfortunate part of the matter is that it may take military action to remove this problem from our world before they deem it time to end." RE: OSI Corporate Offices(InRP) - Doc Holliday - 07-07-2013 Doc remembered a conversation with his daughter the night before. He stood, his arms behind him as he looked out the window. "Mr. Stow I had a talk with my daughter the other night," he began. For a moment, a sense of pride was evident to all, "she seems wise beyond her eight years. She asked me many questions, none of which I wanted to answer. She knows what's going on. Like her mother, she's very intuitive." The pride dropped, "I asked her what I should do. She simply answered, "Do as you always taught me, Daddy. Do what's right." He hung his head and headed back to his chair, "Now I don't even know what's right." He sat down, "All this time, all these credits and investment in Med Force, Canaria Medical and treating everyone as equal and now I don't know what's right. I could lose everything, that little girl of mine included." "Yes, we could 'survive' this, bury our dead and wait again for the next round of bullying. It gets old. Remove them? I surely wouldn't mind but with what? We can't compete with all those capital ships." He then complained to himself, "I just wish I was with a ship what I am with a gun." It was then he realized what he had been saying. "Well, Duncan, I guess I let the cat-out-of-the-bag so to speak," he continued, "I don't want to see another round of bullying." RE: OSI Corporate Offices(InRP) - Dourden4 - 07-08-2013 "Do whats right" Duncan heard those words as Doc spoke them, hearing the pride and distress in Docs voice. He took a deep breath, then looked at Doc. " The wisdom of children is great isn't it? They always seem to have simple solutions to our complex problems. We must do what is right. " Duncan smiled slightly. "Doctor, Make no mistake, any action we take now will have repurcussions for all the Zoners. I think the question is whether we will allow ourselves to be pushed around or if we will push back. " Duncan looked at his guest. "I have already ordered OSI security to intercept and prevent further orbital bombardment. And they stand ready to deploy for planetary action. We not be many, but we will do much must be done. The Corsairs and Coalition may have capital ships, but we can deal with them. OSI security has already successfully dealt with at least one Corsair capital ship. The ability is there, we need only use it." Duncan Sighed. "I can't claim to understand what you would risk by choosing to fight. I am not a family man, all I could lose is what you see around you. All these things would mean little when compared to the lives of a family, of children. But while we sit and talk here, who knows what sort of things are happening. We need to make a decision soon, my friend. Perhaps now would be a good time to hear what that Corsair fellow wanted to say? " Duncan sat quietly, wondering how this would end. The potential repercussions were immense, and the potential damage was also great.. " We seem to be agreed that this conflict needs to leave Omega 49 and Gran Canaria. The problem is how to accomplish this goal. Either we can use diplomatic methods to do this, or we have to fight. Any other option would require accepting the power over us that these people wish to impose." "So Doctor, Do we have any strong diplomatic options?" RE: OSI Corporate Offices(InRP) - Doc Holliday - 07-09-2013 "It is amazing how black and white children see things," Doc answered, "The problem is, that was advice I gave her." He sits back, "Me and my big mouth." After a sigh and a pause, Doc gave his feelings, "I know I already told them both to go home, explaining that each is here because of the other. That was days ago and their presence has only increased." Doc stood up, looking off a bit, "I've had much diplomatic success with both groups and this is where it's ended up. I don't see myself as much of an option at this point and your men are doing the best they can with what they've got." Doc thought a moment. As an idea came to him, a smile grew on his face. He turned to Duncan and simply said, "Bretonia." Doc then tossed a playing card on the desk before Duncan, an Ace of Spades. He turned and paced, snickering as he did. Then he turned the other way, still snickering before he turned back to Duncan, "They would have a great interest in this issue since so many of their own people are war refugees at Port Jackson going back to their war with Kusari. They can't claim a piece of the planet for themselves as they already have an ongoing lease, many of their medical staff there I work with is Bretonian and the very mention of Corsairs bombing the planet would get their attention." After a pause, he finished, "Problem is, can they spare a force long enough to rid us of the Corsairs while they fight Gallia?" |
