Lag - Jamez - 05-16-2006

Hi all.

Well i was having a PvP, which was fun, until the opponent kept teleporting.
(which was The Damned BTW, and he owned me :P)

Now i know this wasnt his fault, it was Sirius's no. 1 enemy - LAG.

It's so annoying when you are shooting someone and they dont take damage because they are actually behind you.

Also is it just me?!? Because it's REALLY spoiling my fun.

If it isn't just me, what can be done about it?

P.S. This thread is about lag. So i'd like comments and helpful suggestions about lag only.

Thanks for reading.

I haven't had any major lag issues (yet, this has probably just ruined my run of good luck  ).

But I have had the yellow icon come up several times for upto 15 - 20 minutes lately and the red icon has come up a few times for, at most, 5 minutes.

No idea what can be done about it and I'm not sure why, at first I thought there was a PvP going on somewhere but no-one was in the same system so I figured at least 2 players were brawling with lots of NPCs.

Possibly it's just you, I have a similar prob sometimes (an access point in the network is trippin' for a short period of time - most times a few secs, but I can't prove it to my ISP :(), remember when the two of us had some pvp, u complained about lag, I had none... :(
so, my suggestion... - report it to the ISP, might be because of that.

Small amount of lag in 47 and 49 tonight .. yellow up alot. and NPCs doing their
gazelle thing again.. Pain in the frelling ass ... Dunno, is it a hardware issue with
the server, or connection speed because it doesn't happen to everybody all the
time. Now I'm lost ...

Hoodlum

here are possible causes of lag:

1) Server bandwith (Its on a cable modem so iffy here.)

2) Your connection to the server (Biggest cause of lag)

3) Server performance. Server's got semi-old hardware, so it could use a upgrade. Not that bad, but.. still it might help

4) # of players on. More players = more bandiwth used. see #1 and #2.

So as you can see, it could be ANY of the above. i can't do ANYTHING about lag as far as bandwith is concerned. Nothing that can be done there.

Wolf, I hope you didn't think we were blaming the hardware ... Eeek never .
It seems to have no pattern to the lag .. I saw it tonight but didn't really suffer apart
from dealing with NPCs. I don't know about the others.

Hoodlum

Well i think my ISP may be at fault by the looks of it.

As I dont pay the bill for it tho, ill need to ask my pa about changing.
He was thinking about it anyways.

Anyway thx very much for the advice you guys.

some big time lag today. some with the NPC an with some PVP. :(

Lag - Jamez - 05-16-2006

Yes lag was terrible tonight. Maybe some lag is server-related.

Lag was worst in alaska.

Lag - Dab - 05-16-2006

I didn't get really ANY lag until the server crashed.
