Uncertainty is the refuge of hope. - Narcotic - 07-24-2013

Her hair was dancing in the wind like hundreds of flames as she quickly walked circles in the waiting room. "Why is it taking so long? There must have gone something wrong I bet." She mumbled to herself, increasing her walking pace. The waiting room was still as empty as it was three hours ago - and the white walls are stressing her even more. "What if they broke their agreement and keep him against his will now?" She stopped for a second, holding her hands against her head. "Oh... no no, stupid thought Melosa. Get rid of it." She continued her never-ending walk, while speaking to the white walls in hope to calm herself down.

At first she did not notice when one of the white doors were opened, and a nurse's head got visible. She put one of her worried faces on, of which those nurses must have had hundreds in their worried-face-repertoire. As Melosa noticed her present, she almost screamed: "I don't want to know it!" And from one moment to the other she almost begged for her to tell what went wrong.

"What happened with Lee? Is he fine? Why did it take so long?"

Charge nurse Libby slows her roll to observe the woman's emotional display. The chick is wiggin' bad, she mighta been hot without the teary streaks and blurry make-up. Libby attempts to lighten her mood:
Melosa right? jus' a quick update toots:" she pulls her scrub hat off, for drama. "Your beau is on the ropes, but chill coz his vitals are kickin' an' he's even breathing on his own now!” she subtly mimes a little dance.
Libby was great at medicine, bad at people.
"What do you mean, breathing on his own now?!" Melosa sola sobs.
"Oh, someone else came to see you already right?"
"No."
"Oh balls..." Libby realises she may have missed a legal obligation. "Well, before he even started going into withdrawal, our boys were so ready to dam that river, but then he started goin down the tubes, so there was a bunch of resus, then they came up with the division thing - I was in charge of his lymph nodes for a bit, and did an awesome job..."
Melosa tries to speak "Bunch of resus?"
Libby is lost in her monologue "...his brain keeps threatening cyclical death, lobe at a time. We're trying to stem the chemical messages sent from his four Q twenty-five, which has led to systematic isolation of a whole mess of systems.
Libby reflects on her presentation as she reads Melosa's confusion: perhaps clinical had not been the way to go. “...we're having to kind of seal off pieces whilst we treat them, so they don't tell the other pieces to die.” she summarises.
"So that's where we're at: which is pretty peachy considerin'. Fives." Libby raises her hand for a high five.
"And you're... a doctor?"
"Even better: I'm a Sister. I'm so sister that doctors beg me for help and advice. I dominate these cats, dig. Anyway do you want to come and cr-.. watch from the gallery? See the brains defy the reaper?"

Melosa was opening her eyes wide with fear - which gave her already large eyes a cartoon-like appearance, quite detrimental to the situation's seriousness. Luckily, she didn't noticed Libby's inept chuckling, as Melosa's thoughts were full of nightmarish imaginations.

She never really was much into medicine and the nescience made her emotionally unstable, since medicine-talk always sounds grave to her. She didn't really understood much of the content Sister Libby was trying to explain her, but she catched a few words, which she now repeated without any context, while still being in shock.

"Brain? Division? Seal?"

Libby didn't answer. Either because she didn't have heard her whispering or since she didn't wanted to repeat the explanation for Melosa's lay person in terms of medical knowledge. So Libby just walked ahead, maybe because she seemingly has mistaken her whisper as an agreement to enter the gallery.

As they entered the gallery, providing a generous view through the all-glass inspection windows, Melosa suddenly started to cry without restraint. But then, behind the tears, a smile was seen on her face - like a sun shining forth in redoubled beauty after rain.

Amongst the dozens of doctors and nurses, her beloved was standing in a dramatical contrast to the busy surgeons around him. She then noticed his uncovered face without his inhaler, watching his flat breathing as his covered belly raises and falls. And she said in her tearful voice:

"He breathes so peacefully... and yet, he'll never experience the freedom - will he?"

Her questioning, yet worrying gaze penetrated Libby's eyes, seeking for the only answer she could hear now.

Libby is sad, like when little deer get killed on animal shows. The look Melosa wears is heartbreaking, only a monster could not be moved.
In a sympathetic tone Libby assures her “Oh honey, sure he will. You'll both have enough freedom to do whatever you want.” She places a hand gently on her shoulder “Hang in there: these guys are the best; there's no one else I'd rather trust with my life.” she offers a Cryer embroidered handkerchief to the distraught lady.

Melsoa blows her nose into the handkerchief and dries her tears with the other side.

"Thank you... your life you say?" She sobs and watches the white shapes as they appear to float arround the blue spot in the middle of the surgery hall. Again, she dried her wet eyes - making the shapes more visible to her.

"So... what'll he be like once he awakes? He will awake one day, will he? And how was that about this 'division thing' you mentioned earlier? Do I have to worry?

She nervously plays with her red hair, while staring at the blue spot which by now got visible as Lee's head again

Oh babe...” she coos sympathetically “He didn't tell you this was an experimental procedure?” she is being rhetoric. “That is not tres cool of him.
"I don't wanna worry you more – but you legally have the right to know what's happening, as his next of kin.
The division thing is just that...uhm..." the nurse pauses and gesticulates wildly, as she tried to express complex ideas in an understandable manner. "Sometimes – when a body's systems fail, they send messages to other organs telling them it's time to quit, or they tell them to try so hard, that they break.
We can make a kind of dam to seal off those areas. When we stop those messages, we buy a little more time to patch damage, replace organs, vessels, fluids stuff like that.
"
She adopts a different kind of smile, one that P.R told her looked genuine. "Does that scan for you?"
