Question: How to replace game music with custom/personal music? - Giggle Snort - 08-03-2013

Hello all,

Assuming this isn't against the rules (I can't see why it would be), is there a way for n00bs like me to replace certain music files for the game with custom files?

I'd like to add some piano music and tracks like Secunda and Ancient Stones (from Skyrim) to replace some of the more.. pompous? music...

So thunder forth forum warriors, and educate me in matters as such! Smile

Yupyupyup.

You simply rename the audio file to say, music_death, change the format, and replace it.

To elaborate on this...

Navigate to your Discovery installation folder. The default directory is;

C:\Users\User\AppData\Local\Discovery Freelancer 4.86.0

From there on, Navigate to DATA\AUDIO\MUSIC. Every music file is located there. All you have to do, as stated by Tal, is replace one of the files there with the music file you want instead by simply renaming that file to "music_death.wav" and placing it inside this folder, overwriting the existing music_death.wav. Be sure they are of the same extension, otherwise it will probably create some functionality issues.

You will indeed need to convert it to WAV format, however you should know that FL has heavily compressed audio, which is tricky to do with other music, and so it could be a performance / memory strain for large size custom WAVs.

Thanks a bunch people! Will be good not listening to some of the most jarring sounds known to mankind! Tongue

Ye, I enjoy docking on New Tokyo and hearing one of my favorite J-Pop songs... Has a better fitting feel to it than the default song that plays.
