Nomad in Golden Cage - Pepe - 08-06-2013 Deep Omicrons... Place that pieces of Toledo planet still floats around. Place with so many souls captured in one single anti-mater flash, still wandering if they are dead or just dreaming. Place that always need more deaths and more souls to capture. Place of intense beauty and evil. A place where old order of Core knights is making it's living, making it's lucrative plans again and again. A place where souls of their ancestors are waiting for them too. A fine place to build weapon research center. A place where Black Bomb was born. And a place of many meetings. Some pleasant and some not. This one? Rather not... I hope you all noticed you were not paid last month. And you will notice the same this month as well. It never happened before in AP Manufacturing. Mr. Maxmillian DeVirgo is not satisfied with your work lately. So he sent me here to settle it out and I'm not happy with it. I used to like my life at Sheffield Station, Manchester.
Temporary CEO makes a short break and enters her famous The Btch Mode. So... What have we done wrong, hmmm? Bounty hunters already bought all what they needed and now they wait. And what they are waiting for? NEW THINGS! AND YOU DON'T PROVIDE NEW THINGS! You are sucking money bags for so called "Nomad Research" and provide NOTHING! Well, it's nice to shoot criminals with Reaver and Buckshot guns, but it's old now. Reaver Merc. Co. will have them soon as well and than what? Shell we close APM shipyards and produce for Reavers only, is that a way out?! Temporary CEO calms down with great experience of calming down. So? Any plans? ...
This is that point, it's a part of all unpleasant meetings. A point when all heads are down, looking at projection of Company's future profits. A point when smart ones know how to shut up. A point at which creative people steps ahead and lose their heads later. But it has always been like this, so let's see who values his/her head like it's easy to replace.
This time it would be Core Research officer, young black woman covered with radiation protective metallic layer. She was in her lab when called off to join the meeting.
Yes, Madam Temporary CEO, Sir. She said. We have a plan. But it's not authorized by CEO yet, if I may say so, Madam. Room gets quiet. CEO nods towards Naomi so she can continue about that plan of hers. With right fundings, we could TRY and capture one of THEM. So we could finally do some real tests find out how IT works actually. Temporary CEO enters her famous The All Ears Mode. I'm all ears... Naomi. With right fundings, we could TRY and capture one of THEM. So we could finally do some real tests find out how IT works actually. And it's almost impossible to catch a Nomad alive, as they shoot at us as long as they live. And I mean what I said: ALMOST impossible. We have that BOMB, you know... Project "Black Bomb" to be more accurate, Madam Temporary CEO. It sucks energy out from Nomad and insta-kills IT. But, project is canceled. Bomb is simply too cumbersome, real flying brick. We can't hit anything with it in this phase. So Black Bomb miniaturization research was delayed. But you ARE able to get it smaller, with right funding of course, aren't you? Yes, but... not fast enough. It would take almost a year, I'm afraid. But... We have Iridium, Madam CEO. Iridium? Clarify that, Naomi. ...
Naomi saves a little secret prayer, like when she was a little girl struggling with hunger and mean sand storms of Nauru. She connects to her lab console and images started to show in meeting room. A man steps out from the shadow and comes closer in order not to miss something. It was Dabadoru's Research Manager, known locally as The Wallet Man. Naomi gave him one short but sharp look, but he was expert in ignoring sharp looks. He was called The Wallet Man with a reason.
There. It's Iridium molecular structure. We use it to detonate the Black Bomb implosion that sucks energy in, instead of bursting energy out. Same thing like explosion, just in opposite direction. And it suck energy. It freezes things to death. We can use Palau Iridium asteroid field to resonate that implosion. It puts us in control of sucking effect and make pretty wide area effect. So, if we force a Nomad into Palau Cloud and activate the bomb on the right place... All process would go from one rock to another and would freeze all field down. And all the Nomads in it. Reaction theoretically would suck energy out from Nomad, but would not kill IT. I hope. Calculation shows that. In theory, I mean. If IT dies, we can try with smaller bomb. They are actually easy to make. With right materials and my blue prints, of course. To make long story short: we get funding, APM provide materials, I make Black Bomb, we put it somewhere in Palau Cloud, I calibrate the implosion, we get a little Nomad to the Cloud, CD IT, I activate Black Bomb from a safe distance and... that's it. We have Nomad-on-ice. Alive, but no kicking. Oh... and we will need a tank full of Iridium rich solution to keep it iced on 0° Kelvin temperature. Like a GOLDEN CAGE, just much much more expensive. If we start losing IT, we can always put some sun light on. We have 4 suns around, so I guess it will not be a problem. They kinda like it, or even eat that light, but I'm not 100% sure, Madam. So... we must be very careful not to kill IT. It's our highest investment, after colonization of Nauru planet. ...
The Wallet Man was waiting patiently until Naomi finished her unexpected brief presentation. He already received a secret message from Max De Virgo to approve this bold and very expensive operation. His eyes were cold as always, but there was always some possibility he likes the whole thing. Or not. He stepped forward to hologram projection zone. Get me list of materials needed for that Black Bomb, Naomi. Than list for Golden Cage, all expenses, all little things, even toilet paper needed to accommodate IT, EVERYTHING. We need that creature alive and happy to talk to our... specialists. You got your self a project, girl. And... Do me a favor. Don't screw up this time. RE: Nomad in Golden Cage - Pepe - 08-30-2013
There's always something new in Omicrons. Silent battles in remote vacuum wastelands, mighty ghost fleets appearing on scanners from nowhere, endless graveyards where bones of numerous heroes were placed to wait for a judgement day... The day that will never come.
And small things. Like small journey of Capricorn. A journey to collect some exotic things for the exotic bomb. A bomb that explodes inside and sucks energy instead of delivering it. A small journey that starts from small asteroid in remote orbit of planet Tuvalu. It's a secret Core base there, a base far from anything alive, always hidden from eyes of Yaren due to lucky rotation timing. A place so nice to build a base, build a bomb and dismantle a base when all is over. A place so nice for this journey to begin.
It's hard to get uranium in the space where all uranium got already excavated. Hard, but not impossible. There's a plant in deep Sigmas, an old Artificial Intelligence's project with genetically improved alien organisms. After thousands of years it still works wonders. That organisms can grow on anything and produce small amount of uranium. But problem is it takes lot of time. So, their soil mustn't change or oxidate. It's mandatory. That's why they must be grown on pure platinum. A ton of platinum for a gram of uranium is a fair price. And some credits for expenses. Not a lot, it's only a gram. Robots are timeless anyway. They need oil, time to time.
Next station: New Berlin. There's a moon orbiting that planet, placed so bad, right on a way from Sigma-13 Jump Hole to the planet. There is no another moon like that, all covered with rusted tradeship-wrecks, goods from all the places decomposing in toxic lakes. Many sleepy captains ended there in unmarked graves on bottoms of ever bubbling lakes. And if someone needs a piece of quantum matter old like Big Bang it's self, that would be the best place to find it. It takes 6 weeks to extract a gram of that from toxic lakes. But it's there now. It will spin forces of the bomb to implode in the right direction.
A short journey to Manchester, to collect few models of triggers. There's a depot at Sheffield Station for all that stuff hunters are bringing in with escape pods of their victims. A place for all that terrorist and other forbidden equipment. One of triggers should fit on the bomb, there's many of that now.
And finally planet Harris. There's a secret wildlife smugglers base, shifting in time back and forward. Place an order and you will find it in time that suites you. No order - no base. Simple as that. And small Shift-Time-Back generator is main part of the bomb. How would it implode otherwise. Nothing's so relative like time and explosion's directions...
And bomb... Finally. Hard to invent, easy to make. Little bit of this, little bit of that. It's armed and ready. A Nomad wanted. A small one, preferably...
