More help needed - Makc_RU - 08-26-2013

When I start the game, the Freelancer servers are updating slow. There are some empty servers pop up fast, then there is a pause , for about a minute or so and then the rest servers pop up. It was not like that before. What can cause this?

I just re-installed Freel and the problem still exists. Also, my game crashed and I had to restart it, but when I was trying to connect to multiplayer, no servers popped up at all.

Please help me to troubleshoot this problem.

thanks.

do you just play on the 24/7 one? if so theres the cfg edit that someone posted a few days ago, that for me seems to load disco faster

Evanz, could you please educate me on how to edit the cfg file and where to find it?

Thanks for the reply.

RE: More help needed - Error - 08-27-2013

After a few minutes of experimentation, the fix to this seems to be surprisingly simple: Move the servers you're interested in showing up on the server list first to the start of the "flargs" line in dsupdate.cfg, located in the EXE folder of your 4.86 installation ("%LOCALAPPDATA%\Discovery Freelancer 4.86.0\EXE\" if you've installed 4.86 to the default location). You can open that folder by copying and pasting the path string above into the "Run" window, which you can open by pressing the windows button and R at the same time.

For example, I've moved all the entries for the Discovery RP 24/7 server to the start of the list, so my dsupdate.cfg file looks like this:
Code:
[version]
vernum = 27
[updatesettings]
flmoddir = Discovery486
flargs = -sdiscoalt.dyndns.org:2302 -sdiscogc.game-host.org:2302 -sdiscotmp1.dyndns.org:2302 -sdiscotmp2.dyndns.org:2302 -sdiscotmp3.dyndns.org:2302 -sdiscotmp4.dyndns.org:2302 -sdiscotmp5.dyndns.org:2302 -sdiscotmp6.dyndns.org:2302 -sdiscotmp7.dyndns.org:2602 -sdiscotmp8.dyndns.org:2902 -sdiscotmp9.dyndns.org:2302 -sdiscotmp1.game-host.org:2302 -sdiscotmp2.game-host.org:2302 -sdiscotmp3.game-host.org:2302 -sdiscotmp4.game-host.org:2302  -sdiscoptc.dyndns.org:2302 -sdiscoptc2.dyndns.org:2602 -s84.22.159.169:2302 -s220.244.125.70:2302 -sdiscousa.game-host.org:2302 -sdiscousa2.game-host.org:2303 -sflsirius.dyndns.org:2302 -sksip.no-ip.org:2302 -sdiscouk.game-host.org:2302 -sgame.discoveryfluk.com:2303 -sdsrp.no-ip.org:2302 -sbash.gumbert.ru:2380 -sdiscosu.game-host.org:2302 -s212.159.86.132:2302 -sdsru.dyndns.org:2302
updateserver1 = http://igiss.net/dsupdate/dsversion4861.cfg
updateserver2 = http://discoverygc.org/updates/dsversion4861.cfg
updateserver3 = http://discoverygc.com/updates/dsversion4861.cfg

If that was terribly unclear (sorry - it's getting a bit late), I'll be back tomorrow at a somewhat more sensible time to answer any further questions you may have - unless anyone else happens to show up before me, that is.

PS: The setup I'm using now (the one above) actually makes the Discovery FL RP 24/7 server show up first of all the servers on the list and within a second or two of opening/refreshing it. That's quite a significant improvement from what I've been getting lately.

EDIT: Ninja'd. I presume the cfg edit evanz is talking about is similar to what I've done here - you should be able to just copy and paste the code above into your dsupdate.cfg file without any issues. Just remember to make a copy of it first, just in case.

EDIT2: A copy of my current dsupdate.cfg

PSSEDIT2: You can of course also remove all servers from the list except for the RP 24/7 one by removing every entry on that list which doesn't have "discogc", "discotmp" or "discoalt" somewhere in their name.
