Reason: While the Upholder is an excellent strike bomber, it lacks the armor and shielding to serve efficiently in an escort role where it may be required to draw hostile fire away from transports. The Waran possesses armaments heavy enough to demand the attention of medium commerce raiders, such as the BDM’s gunboats, and allow our transports opportunity to clear the combat area. Further, the ability of the Waran to fit disruptor-type weapons without sacrificing its conventional armament allows it to disrupt forces it cannot engage and hold lighter combatants or fleet elements in position until reinforcements arrive.

As our Upholder wings have recently completed their retrofitting with the enhanced powercores and other additional equipment, I'm going to put this request on hold pending their performance evaluations. I also do not feel the Waran class bombers fit into the escort role given their heavy strike leanings. I will however authorized a pair of Challenger class bombers to be flown on a trial basis in comparison with the refit Upholder class. If they excel in this trial I will evaluate what additional vessels may be released to support the Logistical Service.
