EXTREMELY high value cargo - lIceColon - 08-28-2013

not talking about ore
im talking about illegal stuff that costs at least say 5 mil a piece, takes up say 50-100 cargo hold (so you don't go hauling this stuf in fighters), maybe perishable,
but profits A LOT per piece upon delivery to buy point (of course it will hafta be balanced, anyway)
and will make the player QQ when you blow him up

when a ship undocks/ enters a system with such cargo, it will be annouced to evrybody within 3 systems of the ship just like the cloak message- "licecolon has undocked at planet manhattan, new york with 30 dinosaurs" (also your IFF will be tagged with Value, so for me it would be - Value - Zoners - lIceColon)

it will encourage escorts, encourage the use of freighters/ small transports, encourage police, and encourage pirating- especially since you can just drop off the high value cargo anywhere and make profit

good/bad idea?

High value cargo's always good, not sure about all this "announcing" stuff though.

RE: EXTREMELY high value cargo - lIceColon - 08-28-2013

the purpose of announcing - not neccesarily announcing but at least some way to inform pirates and lawfuls about your position so that they come after you, so that it doesn't become too easy. maybe not neccesarily to the system, but to people with pirate and lawful IDs, roleplay premise being your contact/scanners tipped you off of this illegal high value shipment

Perhaps adjust the price a bit? Just make it a little lower, so the reward would be 250 - 350 millions.
About the announcing, it depends on when and how frequently the message appears. For example, a message when the trader docks/undocks on stations and enters new systems would be okay. Perhaps even tradelanes, although that would make it way easier for pirates to catch the trader, as they can track down where he wants to go.

Wouldn't this be heaven for night time traders?

RE: EXTREMELY high value cargo - lIceColon - 08-28-2013

heaven for night time pirates as well. so it sorta balances itself out. also dispite all the server activity worry threads, I've never seen the server with less than 30 players online

I am strongly in favor of this. But why stop at contraband?

Give much, much higher base prices to things like diamonds.
Or Luxury consumer goods. A box full of iPhones should be worth thousands of times more than the same amount of like.....water.
Give anything like that....cigars, gold, holo-tainment bands, light arms, any form of contraband etc., base prices between ore and Gallic artifacts, as well as somewhat higher profit margins.

Basically, filling an entire 5k with stuff like that should be a massive investment, that one shouldn't even consider without careful planning.

Small, well-defended transports can carry the good stuff, while large trains can carry bulk goods.....water, gases, fertilizers, raw materials, that sort of thing.

Edit: I realize what I'm saying isn't really what you're suggesting. But it's along similar lines of thought soooo yeah.

hey i totally agree with you. (not that i have a pirate char, but) pirates shouldn't hafta fly all the way to a sell point if they looted something inherently valuable - they should be able to just go anywhere and sell it off for a sizable profit

So . . . how would this change anything? Cloaks are still a thing?
