Journal Entry **/*/819 A.S.

This is the account of me, Viktor Brandt, and the events that have lead up to this day. This is to be held on New Berlin until my recruitment papers pass for the B*** d** M****************.

I was born in 788 A.S, which makes me 31 years of age. I was born and raised on Planet Hamburg under supervision of my mother, J**** Brandt. My father was heavily involved with Republican Shipping, enough to only visit home 3 times every fortnight. I have a younger brother and a sister, A**** and A***. My sister has been diagnosed with a serious cancer, so I can rarely see her and my brother works alongside my father in the Economics Division of Republican. Despite this, I have chosen a different path to that of which the Brandt Family takes.

Brandt means "fire". I find this encouraging, I am a fire. Burning, blazing fires shouldn't just sit around waiting for the next shipment to cash in. No, flames cleanse and destroy and personally, I think flames are lawful.

With this in mind, I wanted to join the Rheinwehr at a young age, but since my father declined that offer (underage and dangerous), he reserved me a spot in the defense forces of Republican at the age of 12. Despite this, my first trip wasn't taken defending transports, but used it to accept a freelancer's job of taking a hired Hawk Civilian Fighter and carting the Veteran "Hartmann Koch" from the Battleship Westfallen back to Hamburg. By this time I was 24.

Mid way through the trade lane sequence, it was abruptly cut. Unioner ships had cut the trade lane and were demanding that I eject the 'old man' and forfeit the sum of $100,000. After getting help from Herr Koch, I opened fire with the 'Flashpoint' class weaponry that had been equipped to the ship. Despite being outnumbered 3-1, I still dashed, spun and twisted their attacks until there was only a single fighter left, his hull ablaze and his shields disabled. After tractoring in his friends, I finished him off too.

The remainder of the flight went smoothly, with no more criminals to interrupt. After we had safely landed at the Military Headquarters for Hamburg, he offered me a recommendation for the Police. He said that the Military life was only for those looking for a pointless death within the stars. With a family in mind, I accepted his recommendation and was apart of the Polizei within a few weeks later (of course after managing to convince my father).

And now, at 31 years of age, I have seen the Nomad War break out at the age of 21, worked with the Polizei for 7 years and now am watching Liberty try and overpower Rheinland. The Polizei can deal with petty crinimals and databases, but now I know that I am still a fire, a fire that must burn enemies. Today, under hushed voices and secret links, I have sent my application to the B*** d** M**************** and await my fate. This is my calling, this is the ultimate way to help Rheinland.

:::Location: Battleship Moselle, Braunschweig System:::

As of today **/*/819 A.S, I am officially apart of the Buro der Marineintelligenz. Starting out as Rekrut, I have been assigned to Battleship Moselle until my ID and IFF status is clear. The Braunschweig system is quite foreign to me, I'm far more familiar with Halle.

While I'm here, I've been put to use trying to decode incoming transmissions that are caught in trade lane, jumpgate and jumphole frequencies. The usual chatter is that of transports, pirates and law enforcers, all talking about their jobs, lives or the future. Pirates usually throw strong amounts of slang and swears. Law enforces are always streaming reports. Its boring, but there are the odd occasions where you find a convoy under attack in a field in a certain system and you get to dispatch a wing of units to their location. According to the recruitment sheet, this process is used to train future Inspektors and Agents. Apparently the next stage is experiencing the U-Korps first hand. I can't wait!

Moselle is somewhat quiet, there are 6 sleeping quarters, 2 soldiers to each room. The Captains sleep in Macklenburg Station, a short 6ks away. With us 12 troopers on board, it's our responsibility to maintain the Battleship over the night and usually the day. Officers only drop in to gather frequency reports. Still, even that seems more entertaining than this.

It's nice though. Even though I'm the only Rekrut for the Buro on-board, I still find it interesting to talk with other real people besides the ones I had to talk to daily at work. They have backstories, lives and families. I feel closer to these people everyday.

However, these people can get rather paranoid on occasions. When I first docked, there were rumors saying that the Moselle can be remotely controlled to jump to the Bremen system during the nightshift and slaughter as many Navy ships as possible. Other rumors included that the Moselle filtered out any high ranking transmissions to avoid paranoia between soldiers. Oh, the irony. After a while, I manage to keep the rumors away though and can land whole conversations without having a suspicious rumor invade.

My recruitment informational sheet said that one of the officers that regularly visited would closely monitor my actions and report them back to the Kommissars where I would be silently evaluated. This doesn't bother me though, it's their job to do this recruitment process, I wouldn't think they're secretly plotting my assassination or something.

Oh, we've encountered a transmission error, things such as "Rheinland has suddenly lost 50,000 soldiers to the plague" and "The Munich system has collapsed" (even though we're still receiving signals from the system) are all mishaps and errors in the system, usually caused by a lazy freelancer crashing into a hidden satellite, messing up messages and thus we get these wacky, out of place, emergency transmissions.

When I leave Moselle, the thing I'll miss the most is definitely the reception here.

:::Location: Planet New Berlin, New Berlin System:::

As of today, **/*/819 A.S, I have been taken out of Moselle, apparently I passed mustard. The look on the other guy's faces when the Kommissar came to extract me was priceless. I'm currently on New Berlin, its the middle of the night, its apparent to me that my escort is quite tired, but I have to pass physical exams in order to meet the rest of the Buro in the mysterious Scatten Base. They've taken a blood sample, urine sample and even stool sample. The Kommissar is currently getting the Military Doctor for inspections. I am breaths away from full acceptance into the Buro!

Time: 3:24am

I have awoken on a Rheinland Carrier, after the examinations, which I passed, my ship had been parked into the Carrier, alongside a large amount of supplies, and I fell asleep on a comfortable chair on the bridge. When I awoke, the Kommissar didn't seem to phased by this strange behaviour. Maybe he's too tired.

Anyway, we are currently in the Hamburg system, behind Planet Hamburg and dashing towards a jumphole in Alsterfield. According to the officer at the coffee bar, its a jumphole they use avoid attention from pesky pirates and possible spies. To be honest, I am too tired to care how we get there, just as long as we get there in one piece. The coffee on these ships is really strong, these must be long trips.

The loudspeakers always seem to be saying something or other too, in the bridge it is rather clear: "F5 inbound, prepare for any criminal resistance." In places such as this small bar on the outside of the bridge, it is nothing more than a murmur that crackles away in the background. The people look pale and almost dead as well, this is a complete change from the friendliness of Moselle. I can only feel that it will get worse.

The Jumphole is inbound and the Kommissar would like me to be on the bridge when he reach the Frankfurt system. For now I'll have to log out.

As of today, **/*/819 A.S, I am finally with the cold station of Scatten Base. My ID is my best friend, as everywhere I go I must go through scans and ID checks. On the docking bay, it was a case of organized chaos as metal boxes and odd weapons were run around the place, going to this wing and that. The Kommissar had ordered me to the sleeping quarters. My room is slightly bigger than that of the one on Moselle and I have the entire room to myself. It's currently 4:08am and I am struggling to stay awake. I have been ordered to sleep in, as an 'official' order from my officer.

**/*/819 A.S, the next day.

It's currently 1:39pm. According to other members on the station, that's totally normal for the first night. The walls are thick here, I can't hear the hum of the engines or the chatter of the next cabin. Its just me and my thoughts. There are cleaners, I believe they're ALG employees. There seems to be a few Republican members too, probably moving important, fragile items across space. There's talk about a station called Munster. At Moselle, they said it was the main Rheinland Research Station, hidden with a minefield in the Bremen system, but after an attack of sorts, all of the research was moved to Schatten.

Now I am fully dressed and ready for orders from my Officer, I believe I'll be going U-Boating, which is a process where members sneak into Liberty and attack their tradelanes in order to corrupt trade and destroy any military ships caught in the lanes. My Wraith has been equipped with the best Rheinland class equipment: Hornvipers, Firekisses, thrusters and a new shield. I can't wait to get out!

But I can't stop thinking about my sister. Her sickness has become seriously hazardous and is being transported to New Berlin for immediate care. My dad is ordering people around like made to get her there unharmed. My mum is in a state of chaos, she must be feeling upset at the possible fact of death. I can relate though, I'd hate for her to die and I am not beside her but in the heart of Liberty or filing papers. Perhaps I can convince my officer to make it short so I can see my sister for what could be the last time.

I cannot document U-boat operations in Liberty without having it filed by High Command, so I won't be writing anything of the events.

The days are blending into one large unbearable life. The only colors I see around here is the Schatten grey and Rheinland green. At least there's other people to share it with though, at least tehy understand the bland insanity.

My sister is getting worse. I am planning on taking time off to see her on New Berlin. I just have to get an escort with me to make sure I don't "run away" or "communicate with enemy forces". I'll get an Inspektor to come with me, that way it'll look like I'm just doing a chore.

The worst part about my sister's condition is that we don't know anything about the cancer, except that it's not contagious and appears to be hereditary. So there's a possibility that my brother or I may already be carrying the disease without even knowing it. We've gotten scanned and nothing appears to be extraordinary, but we don't know anything about this too, so its possible that it's 'invisible'.

I think it's only a matter of time until the cancer gets the better of her, I dread that day.
