Racer? - Tenacity - 07-16-2008
So I was originally using this ship design from another game to try and make a replacement for the kusari cruise liner:

The ship I came up with looked more fighter-sized though, so I turned it into a 'racer' of sorts, maybe a scoutship.

except that it appears to be a star trek model - its a nice shape, some more details and less roundness, i think. - with the big central engine, it looks like the arrow - but such huge engines are rather unusual on fighters in freelancer ( sadly, cause i like them )
edit: just read about your intentions ... if its supposed to be the cruise liner - it should be bigger - or look bigger..... it looks as small as the arrow - and not at all like a liner atm.

I think Kusari liner should look more like their navy ships, based on real life boat, with "house" and ornate as hell. I got few conceptual pics, will post them morrow.

I mentined the other ships, we want people to use ships for RP not because they are from their fav TV show/Movie/Game/book/etc.

Understandable, but that doesnt mean we cant use general designs of other ships as a basis for whatever we're creating.
Trying to sit down and create a ship from scratch with absolutely no concept art or existing design isnt easy... I think most of the modelers here use vanilla FL imports to base their designs off of, but I havent been able to get anything imported yet.

I have a lot of trouble with the CMP importer for Milkshape. 90% of the time most larger ships import perfectly for one section but the other sections (since each component it is made of is a seperate model) don't import correctly at all, leaving you with a tiny good bit of a ship and a mess otherwise.
If you want to use inspiration from other ships, try taking chunks from them. Then mould a ship around those chunks. The design of said chunk will influence the rest of the ship but you will create something original.
