Jack Desmond, 7th Fleet - Avenguarde - 09-05-2013 Name: Jack Desmond Association: Liberty Navy Unit: 7th Battle Fleet Rank: Captain Age: 31 Eyes: Brown Hair: Brown Birthday: January 29th, 788 AS Parents: Roger Desmond (Deceased in 804 AS), Lily Desmond (Deceased in 788 AS) No Siblings History: Born to a Mining Crew Supervisor on the planet Pitsburg, Jack Desmond was from the start an unhappy child. His mother died very shortly after he was born, and he was raised by his father from that point onwards. Being an only child, he was responsible from an early age for caring for himself as his father would regularly work 12-hour long shifts daily in the mines to earn enough money to support them both and pay for a top-class education. Even though his grades in school were exemplary, he was constantly in trouble and eventually expelled from the academy he attended for getting into fights with other kids and was labelled as having "anger issues". His father took this in stride until both their lives changed in 803 AS, when his father was involved in a major mining accident in the boron mines which claimed the lives of his entire team and left him crippled from the waste down. While DSE left him a handsome severance check to keep him from suing for more and causing trouble, he very quickly squandered it. At this time Jack was out of school and working under the table anywhere he could to earn money to hang out with friends and eat better than his father provided (who was a terrible cook anyway). One night Jack's father caught him working one of his jobs and from that point on their relationship deteriorated as his father kept demanding money from Jack to pay his bar tabs and eventually even to pay the rent. In 804 AS, Jack was finally fed up with his father and used most of his on-hand credits to smuggle himself onto an ore freighter heading to Manhattan rather than put-up with his father any longer. However once he arrives he finds himself out of his league in the big city and very quickly falls into debt trying to support himself as a minor without a guardian and noone willing to give him any work, even under the table. He tries to contact his father back on Pitsburg to arrange for transport home (and possibly cover some debts), but is quickly shocked to hear that his father drank himself to death and that he will receive no inheritance as his father's debtors claimed every last penny. It is at this point he comes into contact with the Liberty Rouges, who quickly employ him as a cardamine dealer on the streets. After two years of selling cardamine and making a killing while doing so (and paying off all his debts), he gets offered a Bloodhound and is made a "Probationary" pilot until he can complete a tour with the Rouges and prove his worth. He jumps at this chance, and immediately is assigned as an escort to a Bactrian running a full load of Cardamine from Rochester Base to Manhattan. Right after exiting debris field, his patrol is immediately attacked by a wing of Guardians and a LSF cruiser who destroy the patrol and the Bactrian and capture Jack after podding him. After a few days spent in a dark LSF holding cell, an LN Admiral visits him and sits before him with a folder containing his background and criminal history and gives him a choice. Enroll in the West Point Academy sponsered by the 7th Battle Fleet, or go spend the rest of his days in a cell quite like this. He initially tells the Admiral to shove off and that his friends will bust him out of there, but after a week of nothing but steel gray cell walls he changes his mind and asks to accept the deal the Admiral offered him. Four year later in 810 AS he graduates second of his class from the West Point Academy and assumes lead of a squadron of Guardians as a fresh out of the Academy Ensign. Thanks to his insider knowledge and rapid series of arrests he quickly rises in the ranks until in 818 AS, during the height of the war with Rheinland, he is given a field promotion to Captain (which is later confirmed) after assisting in driving off multiple Rheinland assaults into the Texas system and recording a number of bomber and even gunboat kills. Shortly after his promotion to captain, an LSF agent in uniform approaches him, hands him a folder full of files, and walks off. When he reviews the contents of the folder, he is shocked to see that up until this point the LSF had hacked his neural net and used it as a bug to spy on every aspect of his life, occasionally downloading from it every time he accessed a public terminal or an LN database from it. Attached to the file was a formal notice of that the LSF had ended its investigation into him and determined him to be no longer a potential risk to Liberty interests and thus no longer in need of constant invasive surveillance. He also learned from the documents that his mother was formerly a Lieutenant in the LSF and had died after she was exposed during a mission infiltrating the Xenos in an attempt to capture one of their leaders and was subsequently killed. Because of that debacle, he former commanding officer had decided to give he a chance as he felt "responsible" for her death (as stated in a private attached note in the folder) and that he believed that Jack could do even greater things than his mother given the proper motivation. Currently, he is still captain of the 7th Fleet Gunboat Antietam and runs his own patrols throughout Liberty hunting down pirates and helping to act as a scout against invasion fleets sent by the Rheinland military. |
