Transports - RParade - 07-18-2008 .. I was toying around with Transport ships and I stumbled across one that I really found amazing, the Bumblebee Kusari Transport. I really liked how it handled, and it didn't look bad either. I was drifting about pondering all the cool possibilities with having a tough transport with small gunship-like handling and size, but then later on as I was attacked by Wilde NPC's who maimed me horribly whilst I'm desperately attempting to escape, it suddenly hit me that something very important was missing from this entire series of ship - variety. Fifteen minutes after buying the Bumblebee I find myself wanting to sell it in exchange for the biggest transport available, and then I realized this must've been what everyone else was thinking when they went shopping for Transports... I think the Transport class of ships needs a little revamping in some areas, like for example a ship like the Bumblebee strikes me as being more of a "Freighter" than a Transport, and while it does have admirable agility n' such, it lacks any sort of significant defensive measure. It would be nice to see a few of these ships tweaked, as in offering them something else other than those boring, generic transport turrets. Smaller ships like the Armored Transport, Bumblebee, and others like them should come with other "utilities" such as CD and torpedo bays. It wouldn't be too much of a stretch to even offer some Transport-Freighters multiple torpedo slots like Bombers, honestly. Other larger transports could offer variety in other ways, such as allowing some of them to mount certain types of Gunboat cannons. It's extremely rare that I ever see a true "running" fight where a Transport is able to fight back against their assailants. Unless you're flying something absurd like the Container transport, almost any Gunboat or Bomber can and will destroy you, and heaven forbid if you happen to be an inexperienced pilot in the cockpit of a Train, because I'm going to be LOL'ing as I pop you horribly with my Slipstream or my unarmored VHF. It would be a welcome change to see a lone trader fight off a Gunship from time to time, or even to see more succeed at a pair of VHF's (or even 1 VHF). It'd be interesting to see this class expanded some; why can't the Pirate Transport become a truly unlawful vessel by sacrificing some of it's cargo and size for some respectable offensive capabilities? Why can't the same be said for a ship that is "allegedly" designed for such things, like the Armored Transport? Why can't I run about in my hybrid-Freighter-Bomber terrorizing other fellow Transport captains for their sweet loot? .. Because any fight consisting of Transports is mindnumbingly dull and boring, and forget about balance, because in this class it's almost always gonna be whoever spent more on their ship, wins. Every Transport has the same weapons, the only difference is that some of them have less of them, while others have more hull. Transports - Telbasta - 07-18-2008 hm... a transport/freighter class ship that could equip and fire a supernova might actually be a threat to other transports, which would make it a good ship for pirating cargo rather than money. As-is, most pirates ask for money because they cant carry enough cargo to make any decent profit off of. Transports - ScornStar - 07-18-2008 http://discoverygc.com/forums/index.php?sh...mp;#entry306466 We have a similar discussion going here. Cept Im asking why cant criuser pirate because Liners like the Luxury liner and miner can fight and winn 50% of thier 1 on 1 fights with gunboats. Mineing ship 10 turret hard points. lvl 4 turret X 10= 18000 hull per second and 9000 shield per second in damage. Then consider transports could regen many more times than war ships. Transports - Tenacity - 07-18-2008 ' Wrote:http://discoverygc.com/forums/index.php?sh...mp;#entry306466 no decent gunboat pilot will lose to a luxury liner, you just need to know how to fight larger ships. Against a big target like a liner or cruiser, dont fly like you usually do (which would be flying like a bomber/fighter) - just sit at a distance, say 1k range or slightly more, and strafe to avoid enemy fire. The liner is too big and too slow to avoid your fire, but you can out-strafe and out-range his fairly easily. Pirating in cruisers is a big no-no. Transports - RParade - 07-18-2008 ' Wrote:no decent gunboat pilot will lose to a luxury liner, you just need to know how to fight larger ships. I've got to agree, really. I've seen some crazy things, like a Container Transport beating a Gunboat, but really.. That's very, very rare, and in my personal experiences, well.. I've killed Container Transports with an LH Gunship before (and he fought back really hard), but still I killed him without having to use any botts or batteries, since half the time he wasn't hitting anything except my engine trails. I probably could've beaten him with a VHF if I had enough room (IE: far away from a docking place), and as far as I know a Container Transport is about as strong as Transports get.. The idea here is to expand Transports into something other than a mindless trader's ship. Pirates don't use transports because it means going and getting cash the "right" way - trading and working for it. In an actual setting, you'd see Lane Hackers, Rogues, and Xenos flying modified Transports to attack convoys to raid their goods. In an actual setting "demanding" credits wouldn't be the norm, but instead destroying you and floating off with your goods would be. It wouldn't be terribly unbalancing, I don't think. I'm not saying Liners should have torpedoes and stuff, I'm saying that other ships who often go into hostile sectors probably should. With piracy having been rampant for many generations in Sirius, you'd think the Traders would finally develop fangs of their own. .. And you never know, if a Transport/Freighter were able to bomb things like a Bomber to some extent (and there's no reason why they wouldn't be able too), maybe those transports might get bold and attack your Cruisers openly. I'm not saying Transports should be given anti-capital abilities, but they definitely should get something. Transports - ScornStar - 07-18-2008 I could see the Pirate transport or train with a CD launcher. Or give ONLY pirate factions transport missles ,and some better guns for thier transports. Transports - El Nino - 07-18-2008 Well as a player who has repetadly used transport in combat, i can give you some options... Parchenon, 5 forward firing turrets... tiny as a gunship, and hitts about half as good as one. Excellent to turn and kicks any vhf in to the ground. I got some bombers with it, one kusari gunboat, and many trains, tankers and such... whilest serving in QCP. The only problem was the time it took to take down another freighter. I would always win, as the other trader wouldn't even think of fighting back. Lux Liner... Let's not even start with this one. If a pirate is unskilled at fighting big craft and he proceedes to take you as a mere trader and not the Spa and Cruise Gun'ho master that you are, he's soon space dust. Especially the smaller transports have an edge over fighters due to their enormous shields. Firefly, 8 turrets, 4 in all directions... pirates in fighters no problem, just joust them. You turn almost as good as a bomber, so taking them down shouldn't be a problem. Hitting them is easy due to your mk4 turret 1222ms speed. Also the 1099 range doesn't hurt. The sad thing is, there is only one viable weapon for transports. The mk4 turrets, so there really isn't anything to costumize on your ship. The only turret that can match the mark4 is corsair lvl 5 Salamanca turret. That you can only use if you are a corsair to begin with... and even then it has little better output but far worse speed and range. There should be a veriety of transport turrets. Atleast for each house their own. The existing line should remain but mk4 version should have veriety. Such as Kusari transport turret, with perhaps better speed and efficiency. Rheinland slower more damage, Liberty should be the base... Bretonian with some tachyon effects in to it... There should be options, options, options. And then some options. Like this topic suggests the only diffrence between ships is cargo capacity, and turret number. Wich is alright, but has the added effect of every transport fight looking the same. And extremely predictable. Transports - Rudo - 07-18-2008 I dunno if any of you have ever had the displeasure of fighting against a well-piloted Armored Transport, but those things are a bit crazy. They're as close as it gets to a hybrid VHF/freighter out there. Give them a CD/T slot and they'd be pretty much overpowered. After getting run into the ground by a few of these in my Pirate Transport I decided to get one to play around with. If every transport could fight like that one we'd be onto something here. Just this morning I gave a VHF/Bomber duo fits before finally giving in to hand cramps after chasing them around between supernova shots. And we need L5 turrets for many more factions. Please. My Junker demands an alternative to Corsair toys and I'm not taking BH guns as an alternative. Transports - Bjorn - 07-18-2008 By way, royal liner and Big dragon both have CD slot... Transports - Doom - 07-18-2008 bumblebee, percheron, gmg miner, pirate trasport, mamooth and royal liner have CDes...so you see all mid sized transports have them...(mid sized being below 3500) |
