New Aquilon Carrier, if I were to.. - Black Widow - 09-19-2013
Switch the new 3D Model with the old one (4.86 version), would it be accepted or isit classed as cheating?
I only ask because although the old and new models have exactly the same turret hardpoints with the same names and the same turret layouts, there are some subtle differences:
1st Difference:
New Aquilon has 4 Primaries and 2 Heavies firing FWD aswell as only 4 Secondaries shoot forwards, on the old Aquilon it had just 2 Primaries and 2 Heavies Shooting forwards aswell as 10 Secondaries.
2nd Difference:
New Aquilon has 4 Engine Flames, the old one had 1 engine flame.
So with all these differences in mind if I were to switch the 3D Models so I have the Old Aquilon in 4.87, would these changes the models bring be noticed and thus be counted as hacking?

Using different ship models will probably get you banned by the anti-cheat.

we are in beta - have the 2 capital ship zoner factions (taz/phoenix) ask for a revert to the old carrier - and it shall be done. ( easily done during the beta phase as change is part of the beta )
edit: or at least have them not be against the change if you cannot get them to comment on it. - old model, new model - its all the same for us.

My issue with the new Aquilon is that it looks like the front end of the Re-Imagined Galactica and the back end of a Zoner Whale with holes all over the thing, and there's a reflex sight mounted on top. The interior textures are lower resolution than classic DOOM.
I personally prefer the old Aquilon. It at least didn't identify to me as an "inspired by" kitbash out of the box.
And don't get me started on the new Conference -- or should I say Not-A-Star-Citizen-Hornet...

yeah.... using a difference like that wont help, because it makes me think this is partly pew motivated.

@kazinal: he new conference model is older than SC hornet ( if you mean the onewith the twin tail ) - so, no - its not even inspired by that one - it was inspired by the alien dropship.
anyway - same game. - have the official factions request the old ones - and it ll be done. no need to justify or blame - a simple "please revert back" from the faction leaders.
do it during the beta - and you re golden - fail to do it during the beta and you miss out that chance.

This is not an official statement (which would be posted by SMI or Joggin).....
but unofficially TAZ is leaning towards keeping the new model.
A formal decision and post will be made when all TAZ members have been polled for their views.

hehe both cases many are wrong here. If i am not mistaken you can use the old model. But only its looks ingame on YOUR client. So hitbox and loadout will be the same as current one but you use on your screen your hardpoints and old model to pew with. Still it would be worthless as the current hitbox exceeds the old one i guess. But you need to replace the new .cmp and .mat with the old ones (.cmp is the model and .mat is the looks ak how its filled up)
As for the newer and older model for me its a nice change only dislike a little the 2 wings on the sides if you have its rear view. But on the other hand if you look it from the side it looks pretty good.

I agree with everything you wrote about the Aquilon. I like the 4.86 one better.
But I think I like the new Conference...
Or, since the Hathor was reverted to its older model, why not use the 4.86 Hathor as the Conference's model? Just shrink it down a bit.
Hey Jinx, since I cant PM you and you're apparently watching this thread, what's up with the Neph? Way back when 4.86 was released, I reported 2 bugs with the Neph; one was a texture issue that you fixed, but the other was with its lights. Why is there a light at one wingtip but not the other? Get rid of the goofy spotlight and put a light on that wingtip! It's driving me nuts! D:
