Sirius is a cube! (3D galaxy map) - VincentX - 09-19-2013
The flat maps of Sirius annoys me because space, obviously, isn't flat. So I made a 3D map of Sirius to see where systems are placed relative to one another. Here's what I came up with (staying true to the style of earlier maps):

The cube is merely a result of clustering similar and/or related systems together and assuming equal distance between them. Note that you shouldn't take these projected distances and locations as 'real' but merely a representation of relative distance between places. It's sort of tantalizing though because of all that empty space suddenly appearing out of nowhere, ready to be colonized.
I've already started on a much bigger version that includes the Discovery systems, so let me know if you guys are interested to see a finished version of that.
Open to comments and suggestions.

Now someone needs to do this and upload to that site we use to show off models of our ships.

I have no idea how to even start with that. I have near to no experience with 3D modelling. Would give it a try if someone can point me to some good tutorials though.

Make a bunch of balls. Connect them with lines. Color code them or something. Dunno.

The systems are plotted along XYZ-axes rather than just XY. Use your imagination to see it.
