"Cut your engines or I'll open fire!" - Thargoid - 09-28-2013 So... I'm "piratin'" and I demand that a player stop, they try to flee. Am I then allowed to pew them without making a demand for cargo/cash? I like to make my demands fair, but it's hard to come up with a reasonable demand when you're chasing them. You can no longer type or engage in RP... If I take their hull down to 10%, they might get the message, then I'll make a demand, or not, I'll just blow them up for sending me on a wild goose chase. In short, do I have to make a demand for credits/cargo before engaging? Personally I think that "drop your speed to 0 or else" is a sufficient demand. RE: "Cut your engines or I'll open fire!" - Govedo13 - 09-28-2013 You does not need to make demand before engaging. However you have to RP before engaging. As long as the trader is alive you still can make demand even if he lost 90% of its hull. You cannot engage silently so cut your engines or I would open fire can do it, however if you kill him before demanding something you are breaking the rules, but if the trader shoots back and you screen him you have the right to defend yourself if you loose the half of your shield. May be the best way is to demand them to stop first then ask for cargo or money or whatever so you would be covered by the rules and would not allow misunderstanding and not legit sanctions from the trader side. I noticed that good motivator for silent traders is to chop off their transport turrets. RE: "Cut your engines or I'll open fire!" - Veygaar - 09-28-2013 Quote:6.6 Aggressors are not allowed to destroy a trade vessel prior to issuing a demand, in system or local chat, and allowing sufficient time to respond. Demands may be cargo, credits or an RP demand, such as leaving the system. "Halt" is not a demand. You must say more than this to ask a ship to stop however you may destroy them if they attempt escape. Note: Quote:however you may destroy them if they attempt escape. So Govedo is wrong. If you ask them to halt and be ready to pay, and they run, be all means blast them into oblivion. Their stupid mistake. RE: "Cut your engines or I'll open fire!" - Kazinsal - 09-28-2013 Halt is not a demand, unless they flee, in which case you can shoot them? Wat. That means "halt" becomes a valid demand if they're fleeing, since you can shoot them if they flee, because they're not complying with that demand to halt... RE: "Cut your engines or I'll open fire!" - Sarawr!? - 09-28-2013 "Cut your engines or I'll open fire" is not the same as "Halt". The latter certainly isn't a valid demand. If you used something similar to the former, though, and your target started to run away, you're perfectly justified to blow them away. RE: "Cut your engines or I'll open fire!" - Kazinsal - 09-28-2013 Cut your engines == stop moving in three words. Halt == stop moving in one word. Cut your engines == halt + 2 words. So, halt is a valid demand if you fancy it up with a couple extra words? "Please dear sir, stop the flow of power to your engines and turn off your weapons so wha ah can take yer cargo" is still "Halt", to you then? I mean, it's just "Halt" + 22 words, right? RE: "Cut your engines or I'll open fire!" - Kazinsal - 09-28-2013 No, that's a demand for cargo. However, "Cut your engines or I'll open fire" is just "halt" surrounded with a bit more RP and an unhealthy alternative for the trader. RE: "Cut your engines or I'll open fire!" - Govedo13 - 09-28-2013 Actually the idea is to type more then "Halt" or silent shoot them even if it means the same. The idea behind is to give a bit of time for the trader to cope with the situation and react. Sometimes the same thing happens with bounty board claims where 2 setmsgs( they work if you know how) and emp/snac kills someone while he is typing his response. There are people who are slow in typing, people that does not speak English well, people that need to do something off the PC at the same moment where they should defend themselves or run etc... The best solution is actually to remove/modify the said rule and implement game mechanics that gives small time window for RP- very hard to do but possible. Also Veygaar I am definitely not wrong. Yeah but "Cut your engines or I'll open fire" is a demand as well as a clearcut outcome if the demand isn't met. |
