The Wandering Star - Niezck - 07-21-2008 //Short biographies of the crew & ship specifications Captain Kelly's Log Entry #001 Current Star System: Omicron Theta Crew Compliment: Twenty Five Ship Status: 100% Supplies: 100% Day: 1 All crew are aboard and supplies have been stowed away, we're ready for the maiden voyage of the Wandering Star. Our mission is simple, we explore the deepest and darkest regions of Sirius. The Wandering Star herself is a beauty, a pinnacle of Zoner technology. A “Fearless” Destroyer, armed and armoured to engage even the most dangerous foes. Well, we're all aboard, ship's ready, weapons primed, scanners online, we're good to go. Our first stop is Freeport 9, a few kilometers away. Traveling there is, however, quite risky as Corsairs are known to roam Omicron Theta and on top of that the Freeport is incredibly close to the Theta sun. I think that while we are still so close to Corfu base it would be a good time to test our newly fitted cruise engines. So, all hands to the mainsail and let's get moving. The Wandering Star - Niezck - 07-21-2008 Captain Kelly's Log Entry #002 Current Star System: Omicron Theta Crew Compliment: Twenty Five Ship Status: 100% Supplies: 96% Day: 2 We've come within comm range of Freeport 9 today. Our journey there is very nearly over. All the crew are happy and eager to continue so I believe after a brief stop to tick the maintenance boxes we'll be off and away again. Testing of the cruise engines worked perfectly, we reached speeds of 350m/s at one point, very impressive. May this be a reminder for me to compliment the Corfu engineers when I return, however far away that may be. We'll be reaching the Freeport in a matter of hours now, my navigation officer estimates 2 hours 20 minutes until arrival at impulse speed. The Wandering Star - Niezck - 07-21-2008 Captain Kelly's Log Entry 003 Current Star System: Omicron Theta Crew Compliment: Twenty Five Ship Status: 100% Supplies: 100% Day: 2 We've just reached Freeport 9 to learn that the top-most turret on the ship is faulty. It appears we've been an accident waiting to happen. Luckily the engineers here at Freeport 9 have been able to repair it but after looking over their various wares I've decided to replace the turret with a Light Mortar, a highly explosive projectile launcher. Hopefully this should help if we ever have to engage enemy capital ships, however I hope the situation never arises. The journey towards the mooring fixture was an exciting one, we came literally metres from entering the Theta sun's corona. Our shields were raised to maximum and still hull temperature was increasing beyond 200 degrees. Very close indeed. After refueling and stocking up on supplies again we'll be heading out to the Sigma 17 system. Rumor has it there's an unstable jump hole nearby, let's hope it doesn't collapse on us. The Wandering Star - Niezck - 07-21-2008 Captain Kelly's Log Entry 004 Current Star System: Sigma 17 Crew Compliment: Twenty Five Ship Status: 98% Supplies: 96% Day: 3 After leaving Freeport 9 I decided that it would be better for us to use cruise engines to reach the jump hole. After all, they'd been tested and verified and it was a fair distance to travel. Shortly after engaging them we reached what appears to be our top speed – 350m/s – hardly a laughable speed. A short two hours later we reached the rumored location of the jump hole. A quick sweep of our scanners revealed it was, in fact, true. I ordered full impulse engines into the anomaly, hoping all would go well. After some initial turbulence all seemed well until we were what seemed to be half-way through. Somehow, I'm not sure exactly, the jump hole began collapsing inwards on us as we jumped through. Luckily it was only a fluctuation and it soon re stabilized itself. We did, however, sustain minor hull damage as our shields were off line during the jump. After counting heads and checking the ship was in one piece, I ordered a scan of the surrounding system. Luckily there was a nearby planet, a large green thing floating within a very dense dust cloud. Scanners could barely pick it up. After coming within comm range of this hidden world we managed to find out that it was a Samura Industries base named Planet Kurile. We're entering the mooring sequence this very moment. The Wandering Star - Niezck - 07-21-2008 Captain Kelly's Log Entry 005 Current Star System: Sigma 17 Crew Compliment: Twenty Eight Ship Status: 100% Supplies: 100% Day: 4 Docking on Planet Kurile proved uneventful. We engaged standard mooring procedure and all went well, a good thing really. After consulting the engineers here it appears that the minor hull damage we sustained was not as minor as was first believed. The jump hole collapsed inwards onto our engines and it seems we were only hours away from total impulse engine failure. Well, that's all fixed and sorted now. Good job we took a few credits along with us really. Planet Kurile itself is a beautiful place, vast oceans and fantastic nightsky views. I've allowed the crew a few hours to explore the base we came to and go around the shops, see what they can find. I've picked myself up a nice bottle of 40 year old Synthahol, very nice. While docked here I've got talking to three Samura Industries chaps, engineers all three of them. They seem more than eager to get off of this planet and being exploring with us so, of course, I offered them a place aboard the Wandering Star. They gladly accepted and we can now update the roster with the following: * Sub-Lieutenant Katsuragi * Ensign Ikari * Ensign Jitsuki The Wandering Star - Niezck - 07-21-2008 Captain Kelly's Log Entry 006 Current Star System: Sigma 17 Crew Compliment: Twenty Eight Ship Status: 100% Supplies: 96% Day: 5 This morning as we were loading up the cargo bay of the Wandering Star with extra supplies for the new crew members, we received a comm message from the nearby Atka Research Station, a Cryer-owned facility dedicated to the research and production of new pharmaceuticals. The message read as follows: ' Wrote:Hail Zoner Destroyer. We have been informed your mission is that of exploration and aiding your allies. We at the Atka Research Station would like you to deliver 200 samples of Synthetic Marijuana to Cambridge Research Station in the Cambridge system, Bretonia. These samples are critical to on-going research at that base and must be delivered with all great haste. Please respond to the message. After the loading was complete my navigational officer plotted a course for the Atka Research Station. Using full cruise engines we could arrive within two hours. Using full impulse engines we could arrive within a day. The choice was clear. We are currently halfway there and I have taken this opportunity to record the star arrangement within this system. There appears to be a blue dwarf, a green dwarf and a medium green star all orbiting each other. Quite spectacular. The Wandering Star - Niezck - 07-21-2008 Captain Kelly's Log Entry 007 Current Star System: Sigma 17 Crew Compliment: Twenty Eight Ship Status: 100% Supplies: 92% Day: 5 Mooring with Atka Research Station was successful. The station is owned and run by Cryer Pharmaceuticals. The station equipment and commodity dealers were severely lacking in general purpose goods and as such we couldn't restock and refuel there. Tthe 200 samples of Synthetic Marijuana have been transferred safely to the ship's hold. We shall begin our journey to the Cambridge system in Bretonia immediately. Far starboard of our current heading we have discovered an unknown jump gate. Our existing star maps show it to be that of the Sigma 17 to Sigma 19 jump gate. We shall, however, investigate this further. Hopefully the Cambridge Research Station is not in dire need of these samples. We can perhaps explore as we travel. The Wandering Star - Niezck - 07-21-2008 Captain Kelly's Log Entry 008 Current Star System: Sigma 19 Crew Compliment: Twenty Eight Ship Status: 100% Supplies: 90% Day: 5 The jump gate has checked out. It is indeed the Sigma 17 to Sigma 19 gate. We utilized the gate using authorization codes given to us at Planet Kurile. The gate appears to belong to Samura Industries and is used regularly by train and large transport convoys moving towards Kusari. Immediately after initiating the jump sequence and warping towards the Sigma 19 system, we were met with a stunning sight. While I've been in space for years it still amazes me to see a star system in all it's glory. After gettings our bearings and doing a long-range scan of the system, we picked up comm chatter coming from the darkside of the planet we now know to be called Hiran. Seeing the beauty of the system and the dual suns shining radiantly upon the great blue planet, I ordered we move towards the lightside at impulse speed only. Upon further investigation we found the Luxury Liner Hawaii in orbit of the desolate planet with hundreds of tourists and VIPs aboard. Knowing the crew's eagerness to board the luxury liner I ordered an immediate course change for as far away as physically possible. If they got on that ship they'd never leave! After further consideration I decided to place us in orbit of Planet Hiran so the crew could get some rest. We've been awake and at arms for eighteen hours straight. The Wandering Star - Niezck - 07-21-2008 Captain Kelly's Log Entry 009 Current Star System: Sigma 19 Crew Compliment: Twenty Eight Ship Status: 100% Supplies: 88% Day: 6 The night was uneventful. All crew slept soundly under the protection of regular Orbital Spa and Cruise patrols. I also believe that a Zoner Destroyer fully armed and armoured is quite a deterrent against pirates and the like. Upon re engaging our systems and charging the cruise engines we were hailed by a group of Bounty Hunters. Their leader was named Carrie Harper. Scanning our hold for cargo revealed our 200 units of Synthetic Marijuana and as such they demanded we hand it over or face their guns. Quite a demand really considering the Wandering Star's combat capabilities. I tried to reason with her but she wouldn't listen. I offered her a cash sum in place of the Marijuana but apparently her crew were hooked on the stuff and the Cryer bases refused to sell to them anymore. In the end she ordered her wing of 3 fighters to attack the Wandering Star, a grave mistake on her part. The impulse engines were engaged and the fight was taken away from the Luxury Liner to save any collateral damage. They were relentless, attacking over and over, ducking and dodging around the ship. I ordered the gunners to engage them. They didn't last long. Dropping like flies around us, two or three volleys and a ship was down, pieces of the Barracudas flying through space. We managed to rescue her escape pod along with the others and they're being held in the brig until we reach a suitable base to drop them off at. They keep screaming and shouting from their cells but it'll do them no good, keeps the crew on their toes though. The Wandering Star - Niezck - 07-21-2008 Captain Kelly's Log Entry 010 Current Star System: Sigma 19 Crew Compliment: Twenty Eight Ship Status: 100% Supplies: 86% Fuel Status: 100% Day: 6 A further sweep of the Sigma 19 system revealed a nearby GMG Gas Miner. I decided that this would be the ideal spot for dropping off Valence and her crew aswell as filling our tanks with H Fuel. So far our voyages have been short and we've been carrying around only enough fuel we need. However, soon we'll be entering hostile lands and unknown systems so a large supply of H Fuel is advisable. Upon mooring with the Gas Miner Ogashawa it was discovered that the Bounty Hunters had managed to damage the Wandering Star's shield generator long enough to launch a torpedo at the thruster and hull plating around the bridge. This resulting in some minor damage to all thee components, nothing the engineers on Ogashawa couldn't fix. Speaking to the bartender revealed that there was a Kishiro-run jump gate near to the Gas Miner, a single tradelane away. The miners aboard the station gave us the access codes and so I ordered a course be plotted towards it. Knowing that this would be the last time we would see the Sigma 19 system in a very long time, I ordered we move towards the gate at impulse speed only to take one last long look at it's beauty and magnificence. We now have 200 tons of H-Fuel aboard the ship which should last us approximately 200 days at impulse power or 40 days at cruise. Plenty really. |
