Disco Cargo Delivery Event Plugin Project - massdriver - 10-31-2013

EDIT: as for now trader logic is complete, video inside

Since Im here and coding some stuff for disco, Id like to propose for discussion an event plugin idea, if people really want to see this ingame I will code it, comments welcome and thanks to Veygaar for ideas

READ CAREFULLY BEFORE POSTING

Goal:
-> try to reach destination alive to get reward

Min players:
-> 1-4 trade vessels + 1-8 convoy fighters/bumbers

Anouncement:
-> sirius wide message of being mission available or using chat function to get info
-> only source and destination systems, player name are shown in msg and chat command

How to start:
-> entry fee in credits is required to avoid farming credits for smart parties, each trader kill wont be higher than fee
-> one dock at base, registers mission, before undock mission owner can add players to list that will share booty
-> when owner undocks, a siriuswide message appears that Player took mission to destination system
-> message will appear when trader jumped to another system
-> mission status can be viewed by using chat command
-> cloak is prohibited onboard

Limits:
-> ship+id restrictions for trade vessels and convoy members through .ini
-> limited time to avoid forever hide n seek
-> starting mission would require specified vessel, exact ship or class, ID
-> trader vessel wont be able to dock anywhere except jumpgates jumpholes and destination base for the time of mission
-> jumpdriving is not possible
-> only one mission at a time, but maybe changed if player count is high enough
-> trading in space mission cargo / dropping will lead to failure of trader involved

Checkpoints:
-> all trade party need to reach next system in a given time, convoy may not
-> strict path to follow, a sequence of systems, how you cross squares inside system doesnt matter
-> this ensures some prediction in time and space for seekers
-> every checkpoint party members (traders+convoy) gets bonus (depending on checkpoint and traders alive) + time boost until next checkpoint (about 200-300k)
-> Seekers will have bonus to kill, which will be much greater as more checkpoints left to travel, means that killing on earlier stage would give much more profits than near destination base Tongue

Fail:
-> all trader vessels are destroyed DC or any other kraken
-> timeout or checkpoint failure

Success:
-> credits to traders that reached goal
-> for every reached trader convoy members get bonus

Opposite party:
-> anyone who wants to earn credits with a single kill

Additionally:
-> rewards to be tweaked
-> playerlist will help you
-> event status can be tracked with chat command

nice idea for coding something like this, but that message broadcasting is not good, it will bring all server traffic into one place ,pirates traders etc Angry BIG BANG

Sounds good. The weak part is with the people wanting it in game, you need devs to want it in game not the players.

Massdriver, I suggest making these routes a bit like this:

Start in a "main system" and end in another "main system" that is not the neighbouring, e.g. "Omicron Alpha" > "New Berlin" (but not: Alpha to New London).
  • This would make sure that the traders have to pass at least 2 bottlenecks
  • This makes sure that we work towards a centralisation of the interaction to certain regions, namely: main systems (source/destination) + lanes (because of time limit) + bottlenecks (for lawful-unlawful interaction).
  • The length makes sure that more players can join in. Short routes make it hard to react quickly enough.

It's a great idea. I wholeheartedly support it!
