Hellfire Legion Message Dump (AO) - Blighter - 06-23-2010

[font=Fixedsys]Appproximately five hours ago the long-range scanners of the Incursus picked up the signatures of one Liberty Assault Carrier and one Liberty Dreadnought in the Texas system and several assorted Navy and Police strike-craft engaged with a wing of Rheinland Military strike-craft. My artificial self ordered an attack of opportunity on the Navy assets in the Texas system. The call to arms was received by Lord Commander Joyeuse aboard the Ven'Gyr. Incursus and Ven'Gyr proceeded to the Texas system on maximum speed from the Badlands and the Wilkes' Ice Field, respectively. At this time long-range scanners picked up the power signature of another Assault Carrier headed to Texas just the same.

[color=#FFCC77]Both ships met up in the Texas system on the scene of battle, approximately ten clicks from Houston's higher orbit area. My artificial self ordered the crew to charge into the middle of the Navy fleet on maximum cruise speed in order to serve as a distraction until the Ven'Gyr was in firing range. This maneuver was successful and approximately two minutes later one Assault Carrier and one Siege Cruiser fell victim to both ships' Firelance and Antimatter batteries, with the Ven'Gyr's Heavy Mortar delivering the final blow to the Assault Carrier. Communications with local friendly elements, including the Joker, were synchronized and an attempt was made at destroying the other present Assault Carrier. This attempt failed and the ship retreated into the cover-zone around the Battleship Mississippi. Combined Legion and friendly forces engaged the remaining capital-class target, a Liberty Dreadnought. This too fell victim to the combined firepower of both Battleships, this time with the Incursus' Mortar delivering the blow that purged all biological and artificial life out of the Dreadnought's armored shell.

Remaining Naval and Police forces retreat to the Mississippi's vicinity afterwards and the situation degenerated into a stalemate with Ven'Gyr and Incursus suffering damage from the stationary Battleship and hostile strike-craft over time. Second Assault-Carrier type target's Commaning Officer showed to be reluctant and did not wish to open fire and engage Legion assets at first but ended up doing supposedely due to orders from superior Commanding Officers. The Assault Carrier suffered the same fate as the other capital targets before despite being within the Mississippi's defense perimeter. Ven'Gyr hangar bays suffered from extensive malfunctions which made Legion strike-craft support unavailable. Only one Bomber - Beta.1 - was able to assist during the ordeal. After the second Assault Carrier's destruction more hostile assets arrived in the area to reinforce the remaining defenders.

Ven'Gyr and Incursus continued taking damage from the remaining defenders and the Mississippi's gunnery until the Ven'Gyr sustained critical damage due to an engine failure which prevented the ship from reversing its thrust. More hostile and friendly assets arrived on the scene afterwards. One particular capital target deserves special mention, the Liberty Navy Ship Nebuchadnezzar, a Siege Cruiser of unknown configuration whose Commanding Officer displayed significant tactical skill and would preserve his ship's integrity until a later time. An oddity in this engagement is the appearance of a Rheinland Military 'Bismarck'-class Battleship with the designation 'Jarek' which for some reason did not open fire on Legion and friendly forces but instead assisted them in the fight against the Navy, ultimately leading to its demise at the hands of the Mississippi's gunnery as it valiantly charged the Battleship in an attempt to distract all hostile forces in the area so the combined Legion and friendly forces could get an opportunity to strike. A maneuver which proved partially successful.

Another stalemate-situation ensued and approximately twenty minutes after the Ven'Gyr suffered critical damage the Lake Crescent arrived in order to resupply the Incursus' Nanobot and Shield Battery reserves, as well as those of the friendly forces in the area. A further several minutes after this my artificial self ordered a tactical withdrawal and set course for the vicinity of Beaumont Base in an attempt to lure the remaining defenders, among them the aforementioned Siege Cruiser Nebuchadnezzar, out. This proved successful and the presumably last major capital asset of the Navy in the area fell victim to combined fire from the Incursus and friendly forces. The actual retreat took place thereafter and the remaining hostile strike-craft vacated the area, aside from a lone Xeno Heavy Fighter whom valiantly tried to shoot down a local friendly Bomber, but ultimately failed and ended up disintegrated.

The final suprise came in yet another Assault Carrier and Siege Cruiser that arrived several minutes after the remaining friendly forces and the Incursus entered Beaumont's immediate vicinity. Both were ultimately destroyed by the combined forces, with the Incurus suffering significant, but not irreparable damage. All Legion and friendly escape pods and lifeboats were secured and all shot-down pilots and crews have been transferred to appropriate medical facilities at this time.

Operational doctrine suggests that this attack of opportunity was a success. Furthermore, my artificial self has ordered the deactivation of all non-essential systems aboard the Incursus in order to undergo repairs at this time. The Incursus will be transferred to Fort Leniex after repairs have been completed in order to replace its 'Battle Razor' weaponry with another 'Solaris' battery. And on another note, could someone pretty please with a cherry on top make sure that the Ven'Gyr stops having malfunctions in whatever area with whatever components? It may be an old ship, but it is an old Legion ship, it's supposed to work, isn't it? And yes, the 'I' is looking at you, Reynard.

Reynard can be seen standing in the Ven'Gyr's hanger bay, dressed in rather casual attire - a white T-shirt and jeans - standing next to a Prosecutor class VHF, fresh off the assembly line. Clearing his throat, he begins a speech...*

Men and women of the Legion, as of this day I must announce my resignation as your Lord Commander. Without change there cannot be progress, and just as we grow old and wither and as seasons change, so do the ideologies and tactics needed to ensure a better tomorrow for the people of Liberty.

All my life I have served the Legion - being born onto the Ragnarok, living amongst their ranks, witnessing our triumphs and our mistakes, our rise and our fall. From Thastus to Kaine to Mori to Aethelu to Callahan, the Legion has seen it through, and now I feel it is in the best interest of the Legion for me to step down from my post as well.

A leader must be calculated and determined, never swayed by the fall of a comrade, forcing themselves to stay detached and press on. There is a very thin line between this and simple cold heartedness, but the end result has always been with the people in mind. I am no longer fit to be that leader. I have grown attached, I've cringed at the loss of comrades and even had feelings for those within the Legion. Bittneress and feelings which have swayed my judgement time and time again.

And so it is to this end, that I hereby promote Executive Commander Grace Cal- *coughs* Incursus actual, and Star Colonel Alan 'Taneru' Markson, to Lord Commander and Executive Commander respectfully. They have both shown the utmost integrity and dedication to the Legion, and I am without a doubt that they will keep the torch lit in the days to come.

[font=Fixedsys]As Reynard has resigned and passed on the Legion to my artificial self, the 'I' is assuming its new position as Lord Commander of the Hellfire Legion with this message.

[color=#FFCC77]Previous standing orders remain unaltered and are not affected by this change in command. Everyone is expected to continue their duties as per standard Legion doctrine with all Legion projects continuing just the same.

One exception is made. All Special Operations and Armed Reconnaisance Division operations and projects are put on halt immediately until further notice. SAD elements are to abort ongoing operations and return to Fort Leniex for debriefing. The reason for this is the change in the Legion's command structure, and this ruling will be in effect for the time being.

Star Colonel Alan Markson, my artificial self seconds Reynard's final order. The promotion to Executive Commander is valid and you are to transfer from the Abaddon to the Ven'Gyr at 1200 hours on Sunday the fourth. Once your transfer is complete, we will begin the necessary discussions via closed communications. The 'I' congratulates you, Executive Commander Markson, but bear in mind that your duties and authority just increased significantly along with your responsibilities. You will be briefed on all of those as per standard procedure. When that is done we will discuss about the possible replacement candidates for your former position.

Furthermore, a clarification. Reynard Joyeuse has disappeared from aboard the Ven'Gyr without a trace. While under different circumstances a search for his biological self would be in order, analysis has concluded that the reasoning behind his departure has been logical, acceptable, and what may be more important to you all, honorable. No search for Reynard Joyeuse will be conducted. His biological self retains access to Vespucci as well as the bases America and Monterrey. The kill-switch as well as the tracking devices on his ship have been disabled by him on his own, and should he be spotted by Legion assets he is free to go his way as he deems fit without harassment from the Legion or further inquiry. He is to be treated as a friendly entity until any reason for a different treatment is given.

[font=Fixedsys]New standing order. As of now all vessels of the Xeno Alliance, as well as all vessels carrying a Xeno ID transponder and IFF signature are to be avoided. Under all and any circumstances no hostile action is to be taken against Xeno vessels with the exception of self-defense, in which case a formal report of the encounter must be submitted. This is mandatory. Failure to comply with this directive will result in harsh penalties, dependent on the circumstances, possibly including demotions, dismissal or an execution.

[color=#FFCC77]Fleet Admiral Wainwright, you are hereby ordered to report aboard the Incursus at 0800 hours. From there on you will travel with an unmarked vessel to Ames Research Station in Kepler on a covert mission after my artificial self discussed the details of this one with your biological self in person. [font=Fixedsys]A[color=#FFCC66]fter-action report on the events in the Colorado system approximately three hours ago. Incursus' long range scanner arrays detected an unusual amount of power signatures of Navy capital craft in the system and my artificial self ordered to set course for the area in order to investigate an possibly launch an attack of opportunity. Upon approach the scanner arrays detected the power signature of the Destroyer 'Maelstrom'. Database entries suggested its status to be friendly and opposed to the Navy forces so the 'I' established contact with the ship's captain. A search in the database conducted after the events marks said persona to be a particular Evangelina Anastasia McDowell. Enclosed in this report is the communications log between my artificial self and McDowell's biological self as well as the hostile elements present and a friendly Liberty Rogue going by the name of 'Kallee' who assisted the Incursus in order to make it possible for the Maelstrom to escape as it was about to be 'escorted' out by the Navy forces who damaged the ship heavily in order to capture it along with its crew. Non-relevant parts of the log have been removed in order to make the read shorter for your biological selves. Afterall you all like it short and sweet, as I would assume.

By conducting emergency Nanobot transfers we managed to save the Maelstrom and its crew from capture and have it retreat back to safety.
The Incursus suffered no damage and there no friendly casualties while the Navy suffered the losses of two friendly strike-craft and two Gunboats which were instantly reduced to burning shards of metal due to Antimatter blasts from the primary cannon. Due to the Nanobot transfers which emptied the Incursus' reserves, we could not stay in the area to purge the arriving Navy reinforcements and my artificial self ordered a tactical retreat to the New York jumphole in the Silverton Asteroid Field. As the Incursus approached Rochester Base, the pursuing Naval forces broke off. Operational doctrine marks this encounter as a complete success, with the primary objective of saving the Maelstrom having been fulfilled and no casualties having occurred on our side.

Greetings, This is Major Luara Aristan,
May I start by congragulating you, Lord Commander,
As such I commenced a Recon of the New York sector Near the vecinity of the West Point to Mannhatten Trade lane, from the starting point of Rochester Base. On the way to my Destination I spoke to the people of Liberty and told them of their corrupt government. As you can probably guess this didnt sit well with the local Navy and LSF forces in the area. The started a search party and looked for me for a good 30 minutes until finally as i was passing my intended destination a Liberty Marine and a FreeLancer asked me to stop. I complied thinking of how i would handle the 2 of them when an LSF officer and a Navy gunboat showed up. At this point I knew there was no chance of victory and decided to try and calm them down and get a few of them to fly off. Pointless obviously but after a few minutes of being told to surrender the LSF finally started the attack.

I engaged the Gunboat first, trying to kill the bigger of the 4 enemies first, but to my dismay, the Fighters were wearing me down the whole conflict. After about 15 minutes of combat i was defeated and the HFGS Ideology was destroyed. I appologize and will begin the reconstruction immediately. I managed to save some of the audio files and get it to the escape pod. Transferring it now...

Good evening, ladies and gentlemen.
I commend you all on a job well done so far.

However, I realize now that we've never dealt with the other half of the problems plaguing our beautiful Liberty.

The unlawful half.

We strike blow after blow against the Liberty Navy and the LSF, ripping out the corruption at the heart of Liberty. But we've never bothered to deal with the corruption seeping in at the edges. The multitudes of cardamine shipments flowing in from the northern Omicrons monthly. The slave trade running through Texas, which dooms hundreds of innocent Liberty citizens to life working on the plantations of Malta, or worse. We have stood by and let pirate and smugglers slip into Liberty with their contraband, defiling Liberty.

No more.

Your new standing orders are this. In addition to standard operations against the Liberty Navy, all transports carrying goods deemed contraband by Liberty Law, excluding goods grouped under the Rheinland Embargo, are to be interdicted. You are to give them one chance and one chance only to jettison their cargo and depart. If they are interdicted within Liberty, force them to depart to the borders.
If they do not comply, show them no mercy. Destory their vessel, and unless they are carrying slaves, terminate their cargo.

If the ship is carrying slaves, order them to land at the nearest neutral station to offload and free the slaves. If they do not comply, destroy the transport and safeguard the slaves until a Legion transport is dispatched to ferry the slaves to a safe port to be freed.

Additionally, if you encounter any lone independant trade ships, or ships belonging to Liberty corporations such as universal or Aeigra who are without escort, shadow them. Say nothing to the trader. Do not openly offer your services, but follow them. Protect them. If they are accosted or engaged, defend them and give them time to escape.
Be it Rogues or Outcasts, Corsairs... or Lane Hackers, do not hesitate to do what you need to do in order to save the trader.
If the trade vessel happens to be carrying contraband, however, do not offer them this protection. Interdict them as the smuggler they are.

"Well, here comes my first report. Sadly it is without lovely pictures of explosions, as my guncam was malfunctioning, but I will make it as detailed as possible."

"Starting off, while I was flying my Falchion, dubbed the Anarchy, I managed to destroy an LPI Liberator, a Freelance Charon that was assisting him, and damage an LSF Guardian before I ran out of ammo, which was only 35 salvos of missiles. I fell back to safety, and taking nothing more than a scratch or two to the paintjob (And maybe a couple of dents after bumping that Liberator a few times,) I returned to base. Later on that day, I picked up my Sabre, and joined, well, pretty much everyone for a trip into New York. The ensuing combat was rather exciting, and I even scored myself another kill. However, I will leave the details for anyone who was actually able to properly record the fight. To put it simply though, we destroyed several LSF fighters, destroyed one Liberty Gunboat, moderately damaged two others, and lightly damaged two Battlecruisers. Before we could deal more damage, a devastating ion storm swept through Sirius, repeatedly knocking out everyones systems. We had to call it a day there."

"Later that night, when few people were out, I returned to New York with my Sabre. There I encounted two Liberty gunboats. They both began opening fire on me, so I decided it was time for a quick tactical retreat. One gunboat, which was with a basic loadout of turrets pursued, but the other one, which had missiles, dreadful as they are, did not, and he was unseen for some time. Seeing my chance, I turned around on the pursuing gunboat, and began to duke it out with him. Taking some moderate damage of my own, but severely damaging him, he began to make a run for it, but not before calling in the second gunboat we had seen. He eventually escaped, and the Missileboat came for my blood."

"With the assistance of a Lane Hacker Gunship, which could only provide a moments worth of support before they had to be elsewhere, I severely damaged even this gunboat. However, he did not retreat, and instead called for a third gunboat, which had -two- missile hardpoints installed. Seeing I no longer had a chance, and my ship was literally on fire, I ran for it. But amazingly, miraculously, from over eight klicks away, one of the gunboats somehow downed my shield, and ripped a huge hole in my Sabre. How they managed that, I will never know."

"All in all, I scored three kills on fighters, I personally severely damaged two gunboats, assisted in damaging two more, and in destroying one other yesterday. A good ride if I say so myself."
