Capital ship hull plating - weylin - 07-29-2008 This idea just sprung into my head... The idea is for captital ships to have large hull plates that fit on to the multiple shield hardpoints and make up the capitals structure and shape. Now, these hull plates would basicly just be a bulky large shield system with no shielding value, the hull plate would take damage instead of the ships inner hull untill it was destroyed and then only exposing that one section. IF you could make captals start with specific hull plating by default, capitals could possibly be made entirely out of them, with a soft vulnerable core (crew quarters and internal systems) in the center of it all. Captains to be could possibly start with an inexpensive fragile structure and build on it as they earn money. This may add more of a tactical aspect to capital battles, to concentrate fire on a specific section for example, and for that captain to menuver so that damage is spread about. I realize that ships come with "parts" by standard, parts that can be blown off, however, they still count as hull, and shooting them damages the ship. Most of these parts have the same value as the hull, or slightly less, so they are only blown off if you use alot of nanites as those have no effect on them. Don't say "oh durr durr im retarded we got ARMOUR UPGRADES FOR THIS durrrr " No, its not the same, I mean the capitals being composed of these things Capital ship hull plating - Jinx - 07-29-2008 from what i understand, its basicly something like adding muliple cargopod like objects around the capital ship that are hit before the actual ship is hit. - however, this is not really possible, cause we d have to change all the ships for that, cause they do not have the hardpoints for that. for a new mod, it might be an idea to consider - for disco, i don t think it can work... anymore. Capital ship hull plating - weylin - 07-29-2008 What about simply adding a new capital with this feature? Capital ship hull plating - Jinx - 07-29-2008 you mean - some people flying the "old" ones with tons of armour in one piece. - the others fly battleships with armour on separate hull parts - parts that will have to have less armour than the whole of the battleship ( old ) - and are so more vulnerable. that might be even more unfair than vanilla vs. custom ships. and don t forget about blast damage. - nova torps can hit multiple armour parts at the same time. while doing virtually no damage to a singlehull ship. Capital ship hull plating - Turkish - 07-29-2008 I don't see the issue if its just a hardpoint Jinx, the model could be updated in HardCMP and then linked in the .ini files. Capital ship hull plating - Jinx - 07-29-2008 one can add hardpoints to models without wiping the playerbase? - i thought the hardpoints must stay .. and must not be deleted or added. if you want to make large ships more vulnerable to attacks that focus on weak spots while strengthening them against aimless attacks. - it migth be easier to give them 6 hardpoint for shields and decrease the shield bubbles. that way, you d have a top shield, aft, fore, left, right, bottom part. all the shields might be rather 140.000 instead of the current 450.000 - but only cover a smaller area... so a bomber would have to make a run from the same side to be effective instead of simply firing at the large piece of scrap metal that you cannot miss from 10k distance. i think i remember the same idea some time ago - and i remember it being shot down... but i don t know the reason for it anymore. Capital ship hull plating - Turkish - 07-29-2008 Hmm, I hadn't thought of that. I need to investigate. I'm fairly certain you can add additional hardpoints, but not remove any that are currently existing. Capital ship hull plating - Jinx - 07-29-2008 if thats the case, we can change ships however we like. - cause we can simply ignore existing hardpoints in the ini while making new ones that we like - basicly adding a whole new set of hardpoints and ignoring the old ones completely - along with a new model, its a totally new ship. - i could add some cool glow effects on the harvester then. Capital ship hull plating - Turkish - 07-29-2008 Don't take me at fact, but that's what I recall. I'd suggest clearing that with the Admins and with someone more familiar like Yuri. Capital ship hull plating - weylin - 07-29-2008 Why not delete an accounts character and reship them? |
