keypad use with freelancer - HazMat - 12-04-2013

hi, does anybody have any experience with using a gaming keypad in this game? I'm looking for something to help me with my strafing up/down/left/right and turning all on one hand. Here's an example of what I'm talking about.

Hello.

I don't have a keypad, but I do have a Gamepad. I usualy use it to TS caps.

Anyway, since Freelancer itself does not allow usage of anything other than keyboard/mouse, I'm using a program- Pinnacle Game Profiler. It allows to use any gamepad with any game, by mapping the gamepad's keys as the ingame keys.
Pinnacle may not work with your keypad, but you can look for other similar programs.

Also, Pinnacle is not free. I use a cracked version. If you wanna use a cracked version too, look me up on skype.

Hmm, the Razer gamepad looks a lot like my Belkin Nostromo T52e, which I absolutely adore. My keyboard is almost strictly for chat. The T52 has three modes, so you get a lot of options.

OTOH, I have a RAT7 mouse I *really* like. If these guys have a gamepad as good, I may have to consider switching.

EDIT: The T52 requires nothing but it's driver - it translates button presses to keystrokes. I'm assuming the Razer is similar.

Yeah I was hoping to use the thumb stick for pitch and yaw and have my mouse free to target with. I managed to find one person who uses the Logitech g13 with FL, but I don't know if he is doing what I want to do with it.

Edit: I am using a Logitech g600 mouse right now as well.

I have the DPad set for strafing. Also have keys set up for roll and turret steering. Still drive with the mouse, which is fine for dogfights in light craft. In transports and caps, I mostly do turret steering anyway, so it works well.

That's what I'm kind looking for. I have all caps anyway, so it may work out. Thank you. Smile

I used pinacle to map my 360 controller for Freelancer use. But nothing can beat the mouse and you need to use a lot of buttons to properly fly a ship. I think you should just remap your controls on the keyboard. You can find a lot of suggestions around here.

To each their own. I can't play *any* of my games with a keyboard any more.

I went ahead and got a Logitech g13 keypad to use along side my Logitech g600 mmorpg mouse. It works perfectly. I just set the joystick on the keypad to my arrow keys for steering and still have my mouse free for aiming. I also have my strafe and roll keys available to use even if I'm already steering. Basically, I have complete freedom of movement at all times. I got it as a manufacturer refurbish, so it was inexpensive, but it also has a warranty fir that refurbish. Paid about half the price of retail.
