Planetform - Tibbles - 12-13-2013 Hello all,
I was thinking to start a small faction as a Planetform but I have some questions. 1) The lore at Wiki is really short and simple. Is there any other source of inspiration? 2) Planet Harris, what happens to it after Gallic blocked the path from Bretonia? 3) Relations with Gaians, i would like to do a quite "green" enterprise, By this I don't mean to be friendly with them but trying to do a green advertising in RP (regarthless of the real waste and pollution it generates) could get players confused? 4) Things to do as a Planetform.
5) Also, a small inspiration logo I have done so far; (yes the date is wrong it should be 500) RE: Planetform - Ponge - 12-13-2013 Idea: "would like to do a quite "green" enterprise"; you can develop close business relations with ALG so they can ship off and reprocess your waste. And I think Gaians will harass you regardless of how "green" you are in your RP (Gaians hate any kind of terraforming). But well, some risk is needed, too, right? Logo looks nice; is that the Earth in the hand? If yes, I'd suggest you change it to some recognizable Freelancer planet, like New London, or something Planetform related. RE: Planetform - Tibbles - 12-13-2013 Hey Ponge thanks for the reply. About the Gaians, I'm ok with them attacking us, only that I had in mind a enterprise that wants to hide the pollution it generates by advertisement, more a cleaning image then anything. the Bio fuel thing is also a aesthetic move to make appear the corporation green when in reality is a dump. RE: Planetform - SummerMcLovin - 12-13-2013 1) Main part of Planetform interaction that I know of is the player-faction (so not necessarily server/dev standard) lore of the Colonials concerning Planetform found here. Essentially we were the main escort/defence force against the Outcasts (with a handful of our Eros fighters or purchased ships plus two converted sleeper ships as pseudo-caps) but the terms were poor so we ran off to be friends with the IMG. The rest, as they say, is history... What actually comes out of it is that the Colonials got some extra experience of "planet-taming" (living in harsh environments rather than actually changing atmospheres and stuff) on top of what we did in Crayter, a reason to be at war with Bretonia until a couple of years ago, and why Planetform is the only Bretonian lawful faction not to have CR tech. There's kind of a "unplayed corps" club of Planetform, Synth and Cryer - similar to the trade partnership between ALG, Gateway and IMG. Some joint ventures here are the FloraGro production facilities on California Minor and the development of Xenobiotic Filters (their production being on Cold Bay Depot). What you've got going on in the way of planets are Harris (will talk about that later), Cali Minor (which is almost done) and Atka (which can be properly started now that Rheinland is cut off from Hudson and the system isn't a warzone any more). Settled planets with working docking rings that you can involve yourself with are Holstein, Nuremberg, Sprague and Miura. Other possibilities for development would be (but are not limited to, and most come with their own problems) Wichita, Forres, Yuma (mine!), Guadalajara, Carlisle (that's something to work with Cryer on), Toulouse, Murilo, Nauru and Moros. Your other big business opportunity is Fluorine mining in Poole. With the deposits there recently discovered by Bretonia and the system re-integrated into core space, Planetform offered to take over the cost of refurbishing Methyr-Tydfill and space-based mining in exchange for exclusive mining rights (BMM might be annoyed at that, although they get Raw Hydrocarbons instead). Fluorine, Hydrogen Cyanide, varieties of Silver (Silver Iodide is used for cloud seeding to encourage rain), Terraforming Gases are all good commodities to trade in that business. 2) Planet Harris being ignored is... kind of weird but it's just kind of being rolled with. GRN have deemed it not worth their time, so you're a little island of Bretonian influence in a sea of Gauls. Surrounded by mines. And unlawfuls. There are some trapped workers since the evacuation was focused on the much more populated and closer Leeds, but it would make a decent forward base (along with the other options) for BAF, Privateers, Exiles etc. 3) As Ponge said, just because you change a planet in a 'nice' way doesn't mean you aren't changing it, which is what pisses off the Gaians. They'd be happy enough for us all to live in space in hydroponics gardens, which is effectively the opposite of what Planetform want. You can still work with Cryer to keep your workers in good health, Synth to grow some Quality PasteTM and ALG would be nice to clear up any waste products (all those nasty gases for example) of course. 4) Oh, kind of covered that in my wall-o'-text for 1). 5) Looks fancy. RE: Planetform - Ponge - 12-13-2013 As Summer mentioned, you can make big money (and the best is, all inRP) by trading silver ore from Omega-7 to California Minor, thus giving you 2 more factions to interact with: Kruger and IMG. I'm looking forward to this, if you make it happen. I might even join this Planetform group, but I have also other corporation ships that can interact with your group. RE: Planetform - Tibbles - 12-13-2013 Thanks for the replies guys!
I'm not planing to do a only-trade faction, I want to try a different thing based on RP, and basically giving a nice part of the earned money to third parties, like BHG for the escorts, BMM for the purchase of new ships, ALG for ceaning up contracts, etc... so I'll try to do a platform of RP to involve third parties/factions. Perhaps via small events rping every single aspect of the corporation. Of course I may fail so hard, but i'll enjoy every aspect of creating a new thing I'll use this thread to write the general faction info this weekend if I have time, open to all to discuss and give ideas! RE: Planetform - Highland Laddie - 12-13-2013 Gateway is always looking for new customers to ship for as well. They do live in some sort of neutral zone in Bretonia where you can work with anyone (lawful, of course) rather than being on the Royalist or other side. This doesn't really make too much sense given they pretty much only received Crown money for the first few centuries of their existence, but we'll roll with it. RE: Planetform - SnakThree - 12-14-2013 I am sometimes flying Synth|Banana, so if you ever want to tag along on Xenobiotic or FloraGro shipment skype me ( name in profile ) RE: Planetform - Pel - 12-14-2013 As far as I can tell Planetform is some sort of scam to get government funding for terraforming projects that are never completed. If I remember correctly, a Planetform NPC in Bretonia mentions that the efforts to terraform Planet Harris have had mixed results. The NPC says the planet will revert to its original state as soon as Planetform packs up and leaves. So what kind of business is this? I can't think of any properly terraformed planet in all of Freelancer-- just half-assed efforts that never seem to pay off. Either the company is doing it wrong, or they are picking the wrong candidates for terraforming. No matter what, their efforts are fruitless. We Gaians, of course, think all this planet meddling is anathema, but we couldn't wish for a more bumbling, inept villain than Planetform. And since they never move on to the next project, we always know just where to find them. Sitting around with their thumbs up their tailpipes on Harris, Minor and maybe Atka (the last being one of their more obvious failures). But an active faction could flip this script, or at least move it forward. |
