BBC News: Gateway Shipping pulls off "miracle" on Leeds! - Highland Laddie - 12-16-2013 Good morning ladies and gentlemen! Ryan Avery here with BBC Sirius and we're bringing you breaking news today of some extraordinary developments that happened over the weekend. Gateway Shipping has announced success of an operation they called "Christma$ Miracle" after several ships of theirs boldly flew into the Gallic blockade around planet Leeds and delivered very much needed supplies to the Bretonian Resistance, and then evacuating thousands of casualties and refugees off-planet and taking them to Liberty. For more detail, we turn to our veteran war correspondent in the field on Leeds, Dan Baxter. Dan? Thank you, Ryan! Yes, I'm here embedded with some of the Resistance fighters still operating here on Leeds, and we were shocked to hear incoming transmissions that a large convoy of Gateway vessels had somehow managed to slip past GRN forces and were bringing some much needed supplies to the men and women here. Everything from med stasis bands, military vehicles, light arms, and even huge quantities of New London gin were dropped off by a pair of Gateway freighters, which were then systematically loaded with casualties and refugees heading off-planet onto awaiting transports that remained in high orbit. Now, I've also received reports from officials in the Bretonian Armed Forces who claim that they received distress signals from Gateway vessels that had apparently been entrapped by Gallic forces, and that they quickly moved to set up an extraction force along with Liberty vessels from the Magellan system. The intervening group jumped into the system and engaged the Gallic fleet, thus buying the Gateway vessels the critical time they needed to finish the resupply and evacuation efforts, all while sustaining acceptable losses, themselves. The evacuation fleet then escaped into the Magellan system, and proceeded on to planet Erie deeper inside Liberty space. ![]() It was rumored that some of those refugees on board paid very high prices to be transported off-planet, leading to some speculation that profit motive was involved in Gateway's actions here today. Back to you, Ryan. Thank you again, Dan, and do stay safe. Now, I had a few moments to sit and discuss with Gateway CEO Vimal Kumar regarding his company's recent exploits: ![]() Mr. Kumar, what are your thoughts about the success of Gateway's operation that took place this past weekend? "Well, to be honest, many people think or perhaps thought we did this for profit, but the fact is we didn't. We did this with a sole motto of saving the lives of innocent people who were otherwise stuck, or imprisoned in that hell. I gleefully announce Chirstma$ miracle is a grand success!" Indeed sir. And were you at all worried about putting your people or ships in danger during this obviously dangerous mission? "Well, yes every CEO of the company will have fear of risks, but to overcome it is the challenge. My worry was about our employees not about the ship. They can be built again. Money can be earned again, but if anything happens to my employee I'm responsible to their family. Even though Interspace Commerce gives the compensation the one who died will not come back. There wasn't any major damages other than one of our freighters got destroyed, but luckily that pilot was safely tractored in one of our transports! *Bright smile*" Well, we thank you for your time, sir, and we do indeed hope that your operation helps our citizens on Leeds as the struggle continues there. There you have it. Daring news from behind enemy lines. This has been a BBC exclusive. Ryan Avery signing off. |
