I had an idea for a device that will make minning more profitable and less time consuming for larger ships.
It's used like this...
The miner must have at least one other weapon to detonate this device.
1. The miner launches the infinite ammo projectile, it moves very slowly, lasts a long time, and is easy to hit.
2. The miner fires the secondary weapon at the projectile, causing it to explode.
3. This explosion will break all debris in the 1K~ proximity releasing the ore to be collected.
4. ????
5. PROFIT!

i dont think it will work as good as it looks right now (due to smaller asteroids spawning only very close to the player.) But its a start...a bit modifications from admins and voila! a working miner ship.

Can't a mining laser be done? Something like, you fire it at a stationary big rock in a mineable minefield, and it spawns debris around there, like if you had broken a bunch of small mineable rocks. But that only works in mineable minefields?

Ok, I'll say all this again.
@weylin. Rocks have got something built into the soucecode which means they cannot be damaged by explosions. We cannot change it.
@Dantrithor: Minig lasers have been broght up before. No go. They're just regular guns. Also, the idea of a large rock has been brought up, making it like a wreck, but it would just be used in the same way as codie looters, people would camp next to it and get all the loot quickly.
@Hyung. The only way to do this would be to force spawn Npcs. Lots have tests have been done towards this, and have recieved mized results. Lets just say that 50% of the time it crashes the server. FL wasn't meant to do that. Also, creating a targeting system for them to shoot rocks would be so complex the only person who I can think of who could do it might be Korrd, and he is helping finish off 4.85.

Alright, I thought explosions could blow them up...
I know that a 0 damage weapon can destroy a debris.
About the camping, why not have so many that you couldnt just camp one?
I mean like hundreds of them scattered through the field.
Better yet, make it so you get more ore from each piece:P
