Spyglass scanner idea: see through cloaks. - Lythrilux - 12-25-2013

Just had a simple idea for the spyglass scanner: How about it lets you see players who are cloaked? This would make it useful for finding players who are trying to run via cloaking, or for being able to anticipate the move of an uncloaking battleship.
Thoughts?

just when it will be expensive as hell or/and also needs commodity to run.

No. While some sort of cloak "countermeasure" is definitely not a bad idea, a permanent, passive cloak detector is a bad idea.

Using fuel could work. If you get bumped or otherwise suspect there's a cloaker nearby, toggle on your special anti-cloak scanner. Then again, I wouldn't add that functionality to the Spyglass Scanner but rather to something more accessible.

Well , I've voted against this idea cuz a have a better one ! Cool
Just remove Cloaking Devices out of the serever and the probmel is solved Smile

Some countermeasure makes sense.
They are even necessary in a time of perma-cloaks.
Making cloaked players visible (as in: I can see the model) is a little too much.

Expensive scanners however could make cloaked contacts appear on the scanner list, like in... 3-5k distance? Just enough warning to allow for a reaction and slight preparation for contact.

Because fighter cloaks weren't bad enough already!

I would only support this concept applied on ships that have cloaks themselves already.

I vote on this.

Only if spyglass scanners are restricted to a subset of electronic warfare ships. Expensive electronic warfare ships. Maybe SRP only.

This, basically. Add a new type of scanner with this functionality, if anything - which doesn't cost a metric asston of credits and has some drawback from the Adv. Deep scanner to compensate for the cloak-detecting ability.

please god no

What would the rationale even be behind that, given that cloaks are neither restricted nor SRP only? The idea of having to go through the entire SRP request just to access newly added anti-cloak goodies is a joke.
