New players and making money - komet - 08-07-2008 Hey everyone, I'm pretty new here so I just have a couple of questions that have to do with the mod balance, specifically money. After playing for a few hours on the server I have found it is very difficult to make money. Yes I know I'm not supposed to have a million dollars in one hour, but I have not been able to find a decent method at making money so I can purchase new weapons, equipment, etc... I first started off by doing missions, it didn't seem too bad at first but when I realized that every mission would take 20+ minutes to complete because of traveling+VERY tough NPC's and other factors such as loosing your shields after the NPC you are battling bumps into you. What makes this method even harder is the low pay. At about a million for a ship I don't think I will be able to get a new one for a while and then when I can't even defend against pirates (trade lane hackers) it makes it even harder. I even tried doing a mission with a friend and it took us about 20 minutes just for a mission with a difficulty of 10 to complete, and we barely made it through that. My second method I tried was trading goods and bringing them from planet to planet with a friend. I have to say this plan looked good on paper but it definitely did not work in game. After picking our goods up from New Tokyo we headed towards New Berlin and at first it seemed easy, there were almost no enemies. Then we hot to Frankfurt and were destroyed over and over by pirates. That's when I gave up and made a new character all together. I know the NPC's are supposed to be "tough" but to a new player like myself they are more of "impossible" to me. This is where I begin to wonder how people get to the levels of 60, 70, and even 80. I know they are good players but honestly how did they do that? I am just wondering if someone could explain to me how a new person can make money (not just money but a decent amount to purchase ships). I just can not understand it. I also apologize if this thread is not under the proper topic, it seemed like the right place to me anyways. - KOMET New players and making money - VincentFerrex - 08-07-2008 Well, most people start out this way: They use their starflier and mine for silver in Colorado, until they can afford a CSV, on Manhattan. Then they either start trading with it, or continue mining. They keep at it until they can get a better ship with a large hold. It's always best to have your first char a trader char, so it can support your newer chars. Cheers! ~Vincent New players and making money - Marburg - 08-07-2008 Well, imho it's best to stay in liberty until you bulk up a bit more. There are mining opportunities in Colorado if you look at the fields:cool: before you know it, you'll be up to snuff ::yeah, what Vince said. Damn my sub-par typing speed!:::crazy: New players and making money - Cellulanus - 08-07-2008 I made my first character by doing missions and it is quite easy, if you know what you are doing. You just need to follow a few guidelines: 1) Always take missions that only require you to kill one ship or station, this way you can "grab the money and run" 2) Always upgrade to a new fighter the second you can afford it and the equipment. I'm not talking about the million credit units, I'm talking about the mid range units like what you used in SP. 3) Always select missions that are under what your ship and skill level can handle. 4) Actually READ the mission description! Need to just kill the one space station or kill everything? Will some friendly NPCs be joining you? (NPCs are a bad thing, they almost always mean more hostiles will be present) All of these things will make your life easier. New players and making money - Rashnok - 08-07-2008 Don't be afraid to ask traders to convoy up. A good chunk of them will be willing to let a newbie hang around for protection and learning. If you happen to be a good pilot, you can try piracy too. Managed to get 15 million to start off a character in a few days through pirating in a Starflier. It can be done. New players and making money - RonG777 - 08-07-2008 Well, if you don't fancy fighting..(missions).. There's a couple of cute little trade runs.. right in the New York system that can earn enough cash for a better ship and gear.. Then you can move on to nearby systems to mine or trade for more profit.... New players and making money - Laowai - 08-07-2008 Yeah... the Silver field is where most people start out. It's tedious, but it does work. After that you trade, which is boringly monotonous, however, it will work. The NPC's though are stupidly tough - as marburg said, you're best to stick around Liberty, or you can get some higher level players to partner up with you to do missions. New players and making money - Cosmos - 08-07-2008 aha if you come to omcron gamma and feel like joining the corsairs, i would help you:) New players and making money - asterix - 08-07-2008 Yeah doing the mining thing works once you have enogh monery there is a good freighter on planet junyo. trade millitary vehicles from na ha sation (sigma 13) to battleship myoko shikoku. New players and making money - 03storic - 08-07-2008 I will give you money for free. |
