So I forked Starchart - Ichiru - 01-24-2014 Hey guys! So it turns out it's practically impossible for me to play under Linux (not even under wine! D: ) so I've forked the core of a C# system viewer called Starchart. Hopefully one day it will morph into a beautiful game engine (read: hopefully). I've got the code here if anyone is curious. ![]() Screenies The first successful render (click to make it nice and big) ![]() RE: So I forked Starchart - Challenger - 01-24-2014 How's linux support for C# these days, anyway? If it uses Windows-specific things like the Registry, DirectX, and direct calls to User32.dll then it isn't going to work. But for the core things in the newer distros mono works really solidly. The version of mono I have (3.2.3) does have support for the .NET Framework 4.5, but I know at least Ubuntu 12.04 doesn't have that sort of support so I am still sticking to .NET 4. By the way I'm using MonoGame-SDL2 which is a really good replacement for XNA that runs on OpenGL and SDL RE: So I forked Starchart - Coin - 01-24-2014 so, if its a 3-d map of the game, how far away are they from making the entire source code? RE: So I forked Starchart - Eonaros - 01-24-2014 I was just about to install Ubuntu and try Freelancer on it. I heard a problem that Ubuntu Linux runs all games in Windowed mode, and doesn't even run some games at all. Maybe that'll fix my problems ... It doesn't quite do anything yet :33 But if you have a good enough computer, Windows XP 32-bit in Virtualbox with Virtualbox Extensions works well RE: So I forked Starchart - Ichiru - 02-01-2014 I finally got the Linux port of Starchart to render New York somewhat The planets are purple for some reason (I think a buggy TextureCube implementation or I ported a shader wrong) and there isn't a particle renderer yet, but it's a start! ![]() RE: So I forked Starchart - Durandal - 02-02-2014 BUT LEGAL ISSUES.
OH. MY. GOD. No but sarcasm aside it's nice to see somebody having a spine for once and doing something like this. Inb4 lock 'coz of dev/admin paranoia of evil microsoft retribution, k3k3k3 RE: So I forked Starchart - Lampyridae - 02-02-2014 I'm running Freelancer on LInux Mint in a VirtualBox Windows 7 and it works and runs OK. I did have it installed in LInux with PlayOnLinux, Discovery 4.87 even installed and worked. My only issue was I couldn't get it to see the internet for multiplayer whatever I tried, but single player worked. RE: So I forked Starchart - SMGSterlin - 02-02-2014 What is wrong with you people using Linux? Linux =/= Gaming OS |
