On Base Maintenance: A Ramble - Thexare - 02-15-2014 So, player-owned bases are a thing now. And they can be great avenues of RP. And they've got a use as cash sinks, as well; maintenance takes credits out of a gradually inflated economy by way of buying materials. The only problem is, this maintenance is unbelievably tedious. In 24 hours, a base will burn 8640 Reinforced Alloy, if it's not under attack. That's 3,024,000 credits. That's really cheap - but it's also at least two trips every day for any faction, three if they don't have 5ks. Here's my concept: Cut the gradual wear-and-tear massively - every six hours, the base uses 125 Reinforced Alloy for maintenance. Increase the price to 120,000 per unit. This will, therefore, cost 6,000,000 credits per day for maintenance - offering more of a cash sink, but because even a freighter can make the trip, a transport can stock up a base for a longer time. Now, that doesn't address some other concerns - namely, repairs under assault. That's why I haven't mentioned Robotic Hardware. Robotic Hardware will continue to function under current repair mechanics, but only when the shield is up. This will allow you to keep a stockpile for repairs while under siege under the current mechanics, while making normal wear-and-tear damage less irritating to deal with. Kazinsal has told me that setting it up this way is probably doable. Oh, and stay on the topic of the suggestion, please. You know why I say this. RE: On Base Maintenance: A Ramble - Savas - 02-15-2014 Agreed, I've found that maintaining a base to be one of the most irritating chores to be experienced. Often, factions tear their hearts out devoting their time towards maintaining POBs and not having the willpower to do anything else. Fix pls. RE: On Base Maintenance: A Ramble - tothebonezone - 02-15-2014 I like this idea and am ok with bases being easier and more expensive to maintain. RE: On Base Maintenance: A Ramble - t0l - 02-15-2014 Ye. There's way too much pointless grinding and boring trading to fund a base, and ends up shafting smaller scale factions. RE: On Base Maintenance: A Ramble - Jayce - 02-15-2014 yes)) RE: On Base Maintenance: A Ramble - Soul Reaper - 02-15-2014 Yes pls. RE: On Base Maintenance: A Ramble - Syrus - 02-15-2014 The problem lies in how the repair materials are tied in with the sieging process of a base currently. (Of course I already put forth an idea that would change that completly, but people didn't like it, so meh.) ... Because of the bases mostly only dying because they actually do run out of repairs, reducing the amount a base needs per day would make them evern "more invincible", as people like to put it. I'm all for reducing the amount of attention a base needs, as long as bases get regulated more (->SRP). From my experience the grind for bases was pretty much "the final nail" for a lot of people who then subsequently left disco - and who then just stuck to Skype(/Forum) rambling - over time. RE: On Base Maintenance: A Ramble - NoMe - 02-15-2014 hello all or just an idea, why not to have a special ship, why not SRPed named "by exemple Supply ship " with a 800 cruise speed, for the base who are far and difficult to supply. it could be interesting for me now it's better only 2 runs with a 5000 and basics are more present. i would like to have a base near a planet who have all, in his market!.............................but it's a dream for the 3500 transporter they can ask the base owner to have an help to buy a big. What you think, for my special ship? only one by base and only for alloy and fow and without gun and cloaking possibility RE: On Base Maintenance: A Ramble - Ponge - 02-15-2014 Well, the idea seems good, but don't forget that RA is also needed for manufacturing, like a series 4 jump drive needs 112,500 Reinforced Alloy, that is a bit to much in cash if RA costs 120 000/piece (13 500 000 000 credits). So you have to pay attention to this, also. |
