An Essay on Entity SL-X

by
Earl F. Langly

In our contemporary society of constant research and development, it should not come as a surprise when that which was previously unknown comes to light, and those of a more enlightened thinking should attempt to solve the aforementioned. Following said relevancy, it should not only be disclosed that mysteries such as the SL-X exist and are commonplace, yet such matters should be discussed among the scientific community, and intellectual agreements among the interested met. For the past forty years that I have been studying this entity, I have come to but a few conclusions pertaining to it's origins and capabilities. While my scientific peers who have reviewed my materials have labeled the being as a threat to society, I myself, having had only one encounter, do not believe this to be the case.

The exact origins of the SL-X are unknown. Reports of the SL-X appear as early as 500 A.S., shortly after the Texas incident, showing that time has little effect on the entity. Thought to have arrived with the dark matter wave associated with the previously mentioned incident, this is highly improbable, as not only would the being (invincible as it may seem, surely it has limits) have been consumed by the wave, if by some chance it managed to survive it would have had to escape the quarantine undetected. It has also been theorized to be a military AI prototype gone rogue, which would seem plausible given it's seemingly indefinite lifespan and advanced combat proficiency. This too, however, is impossible as scans have proven on multiple occasions that the being is not an AI. Reports have even gone so far as to assume this being is somehow related to the Nomads, given it's mysterious nature and strange habits, though there are no other reports of Nomads assuming human form, and being an "infectee" can be ruled out as the subject has no vitals.

What this being is, exactly, is just as ambiguous as where it came from. Remarkably, it has potential to bleed when wounded, and samples of it's blood have been collected and examined under close scrutiny. Test show that it is indeed human blood, which is most fascinating as all evidence would point otherwise (The anomaly has been around far longer than the human life span is capable of, even one affected by the drug Cardamine; scans have shown no vitals or thermal traces, and the enigma has been seen in open vacuum with no ill effect.), however DNA profiling has proved inconclusive. Out of place blood aside, the being has shown other strange signs that are not evident in known sentient life forms. It's fingertips seem capable of conducting electrical currents, only reported in use when interacting with technology and not used during combat. One may assume that electrical currents directed towards the being are either nullified or absorbed by this phenomenon, as it has been reported completely resistant to charges that would otherwise incapacitate most sentient beings. It has been speculated that it uses this strange ability to heat the blade it wields, giving it the otherwise inconceivable sharpness it displays. Another strange feature is that it's hood appears to be completely hollow, having placed it's own hand inside multiple times, inadvertently demonstrating the curious feature. Indifferent to how much light is present, the hood somehow manages to stay completely black. Whether this is merely a trait meant to inspire fear into it's enemies or a clever engineering ploy (should it be of mechanical origins) is unknown, only adding to it's veil of mysteries. The being somehow manages to talk, despite it's apparent lack of a head, and it's voice is described as that of a young man, bearing a very monotonic inflection. Lately, reports seem to infer some sort of malfunction with it's speech, as static has been ever so prevalent.

One of the few things those who study the SL-X can determine for certain is it's combat prowess. While rather clumsy when piloting ships (in a combat regard, that is. It is known to be skilled in evasion in what seems to be it's preferred ship, the Hayabusa), the SL-X is extremely lethal when it comes to ground combat. Favoring the blade, it has been seen using an arsenal of basic weapons, from it's most commonly recognized blade, a black sword (thought to be a modern version of what used to be known as Ninjato), to much more obscure weapons, such as throwing knives. Despite it's preference for bladed weaponry, the entity has been reported as highly proficient with firearms, seen disarming and using it's enemies' weapons as it's own. These combat traits are used as claims that the being is indeed a threat and should be hastily eliminated, yet after close perlustration it can be determined that the being is not as large a threat as many claim. While it has been reported to be a part of many battles, in nearly every case it has had it's own agenda, showing little regard to those who are not directly in it's path. This theory is backed up even further by the fact that after every encounter it is involved with, the entity was reported to have either been seen departing in a very brisk manner or to have completely vanished without notice.

The SL-X is a fascinating, yet mysterious subject. Of the reports that exist, many are either heavily redacted or not available without some high level of clearance, which is understandable, given the entity's nature. Personal experience with the being is one of the most valuable assets to researching it, however finding a willing candidate can prove rather difficult. While the entity may seem a dangerous threat, it is safe to assume that treated with proper caution and respect it should pay little attention to those it encounters, if any. Regardless of danger, it is of utmost importance that we, the scientific community, discover where this entity came from and what it's long term goals are. Whether technological or biological, it is certain that uncovering this entity's origins will benefit mankind in some way, providing scientific advances that could change the very way we understand the universe.
