Disco = Broken... - E.T. - 03-22-2014

Well i have been looking to the game after the zoner discussion about its shipline and so called problems. Even with the Persephone it is nonsense, the problem is not the zoners, but Disco as a whole. If you classify a mining faction (IMG) to use battleships, makes you wonder why other mining factions don't have the same rights? Or is it because the military should only have access to these capital ships? (above gunboats) Lorewise Police factions should not have anything bigger then a Gunboat as well. You seen inRL a police officer driving a tank? Ok swat, but that you cannot compare to a capital cruiser. Military is for that.

Not to mention lorewise the Nomads are omicrons stationed they will use incubis (wilde) to control and search intel on information about the DK and they where made to destroy the remaining technology of the DK so it would not fall into hostile hands. If they would be seen with a marduk (battleship) in the middle of a house wouldn't it be obvious the infected would be more nearby then the humans would believe?

I can continue about almost each and any faction. Point is if one faction is balanced as a type of faction you could never outgrow a complete house and military. The houses will never make it possible that a corporation can outgrow them or might be a problem for their own government or safety of their civilians.

I wait a few days and look again. Curious about YOUR view about it all

Everyone wants cool toys to fly and shoot the other's cool toys with. This is why balance was never with RP in mind, when it comes to certain factions, a good example always having been ones such as the LR/Mollies, IMG, RH and Zoners.

People just want to have fun.

They want equality in terms of ships, gear and other.

If we balanced strictly after lore and RP, most factions would go unused.

It is a game that takes place in a universe with different rules than we have in ours. Why can't people get that through their heads

Hi, Duv, you're right.
Disco is broken from the beginning. No faction except for house military should have access to capital ships. Nomads and Gallia should own Eastern and Western part os Sirius respectively. But that would be... boring.

I agree, and have said it before. There is no vision. If Freelancer can be compared to a road legal car then Discovery is the result of a group of passionate petrol heads trying to improve it in the way they see it best. But instead of a race car with all custom parts that has an engine that can hum the Marseillaise and looks like it could win a beauty contest we get something along the lines of a clown car. One man tried to fit as many people as possible inside, so you have no idea where how many will get out of it, one of them tried to make it as fast as possible while one tried to make it consume as little fuel as possible, one fit stanced front alloy wheels another fit bike wheels in the back, everyone fit whatever body element they found in the backyard so none of it fits together and everyone painted his side in the colour he likes best. It drives like a boat at whatever speed it wants cause the throttle doesn't respond to action and the custom horn yells "Move out of the way, A$$-hoooole". We also see adverts of it calling it the car of the year in every magazine.

Hey Duv,

Sure it's rather unrealistic that zoners, IMG, pirates and other such groups got acces to caps, but mods in general are to add content. So long as it doesn't go full retard I don't think it's really -that- big problem. Assuming we don't care about the lore though...

Here's how I see it: they got caps and other fancy toys? Good for them, let's try to get same or similar toys for ourselves.

If faction X gets them, that's nice.
If it doesn't get them and as an answer hears from important persons ™ "because not", then that sucks and is example of either double standards or not giving a damn.

Hypothetical faction X should point out such obvious inequality and propose alternative solutions to the problem. Imo that's how it'd work the best.

RE: Disco = Broken... - Jack_Henderson - 03-23-2014

I do not care for reality, really. It is a space shooter anyway.

Therefore, every faction should have a shipline up to cruiser (included).

Only selected factions (House Militaries) should have a Battleship, and that BS would have to be really something special then, not like the BS we have now.

Main reason:
> flying caps is a good change to the snub flying
> every faction should be allowed to enjoy that part of Disco

RE: Disco = Broken... - Croft - 03-23-2014

I'd have to disagree with every faction being able to field a cap, even if it is a small cruiser or frigate. A lot of the factions in Disco have lost their charm because they've been given ships beyond what their lore states, they've become nothing more than generic ID's whose only differences are the ZoI's.
In some cases it robs the faction of it's character entirely, look at the Outcasts, they want to spread cardamine across Sirius because they are isolated and so few. Suddenly they have enough resources and people to make an entire navy complete with cruisers and battleships which makes them less isolated and far more populated. After all you can hardly feel isolated on a ship with 300+ people.

Same with the Corsairs, they had to butcher an entire family line to survive. Resorting to canabalism, the very last strand on the brink of death and a practice ingrained in most animals to be so abhorrent that they would prefer to starve. Yet now they field dreadnaughts, battleships and cruisers. Can't exactly be starving if they can pack these ships with enough supplies to rage war with the Outcasts.

I'm not against caps or balance but I'd rather not have Disco turn into captain bland's space shooter.
