Between-system jump speed based on ship size - sindroms - 03-23-2014 Is this possible? The current jump quickness for any ship is around ten seconds, starting from the moment you enter the gate til the moment you regain control over your ship. What if this wasn't the case? Medium transports would take around 20 seconds, cruisers and large transports around 30 and battleships - a minute. What would that change in terms of ingame applications? RE: Between-system jump speed based on ship size - AshHill07 - 03-23-2014 I was under the impression they were just there to hide loading screens, as on my old less powerful machine it would always come up with "Loading ..." for about 10 seconds after the animation finnshed. Although I do suspect sitting watching a loading screen for 1 minuite between systems would get old fast, and may even make some people think thiers something wrong with thier PC. RE: Between-system jump speed based on ship size - Kazinsal - 03-23-2014 Yeah, it's just a fancy loading barrier for waiting on both your hard drive and the server acknowledging that you're jumping. Can't think of any way to artificially extend that. RE: Between-system jump speed based on ship size - Savas - 03-23-2014 What exactly would be the point of a change like this? RE: Between-system jump speed based on ship size - Red_One - 03-23-2014 It would encourage the use of smaller craft like bombers, snubs, gunboats etc instead of the solid blocks of dreadnaought spam everywhere everytime everyday. Which is honestly a bit stupid considering most unlawfuls don't really warrant the deployment of capital ships. Traders would be a wee bit put out by this mind. As for the doability of extending the jumptime, is it possible to make larger ships imobile for 15 seconds on one side of the jump while they discombobulate/phase to hyperspace or whatever and then put another delay on control being given back while they recombobulate/Phase to realspace on the other side? RE: Between-system jump speed based on ship size - Syrus - 03-23-2014 In SP the jump is instantly. The first part of the jump you are still in one system, then it loads - sometimes visible by a loading bar (you will still see the jumping thingy) - then you are in the other system (AND already spawned there, at a specific location somewhere IN the system, visible to others for a short time, and when the sequence ends it teleports you pretty much to the JG/JH's location. The question is, where do you go when you enter the JG, before you are in the next system? Just invisble, flying off towards the system border? Since on some JHs in mine fields you hear teh explosions for example...if that's the case, that part - in theory - could be made longer. The other part though, can't, I guess, considering that you are already spawned into the system and visible to others. (Obviously that is the shorter part of the jump anyway...) RE: Between-system jump speed based on ship size - Pavel - 03-23-2014 Discovery Mod General Discussion Spazz. I dunno what it'd change..more gate camping I suppouse. People would need to hire mythical scouts if they wished their convoys not to get ravaged. |
