Freighters brainstorming -- How could we make them viable? - tothebonezone - 03-26-2014

So Freighters have always been a cool idea. Going fast, a lot of firepower, and a decent cargo hold.

Only issue is they're kinda vulnerable to anything that's not another freighter. Slower than fighters, most bombers, and are fat targets for gunboats. Once they're disrupted, their strength in cruise speed is gone.

Not only that, if people want to make money, transports are extremely more viable for that.

What do you think we can do to make them better? A little more cargo? A higher mining multiplier? A multiplier for selling certain goods?

No poll, post ideas and discuss.

They need to be able to mount better gums tbh. Well, that's the only idea that springs to my mind.

Also, most freighters can solo most fighters and bombers in a duel type situation. In actual combat, there'snormally a stalemate on account of all snubs shield running for dear life because freighters can't chase. Other than that, freighters can easily down transports, and a pair can down anti cap cruisers. The only counters that people actually flew were solaris gunboats, or gangs of missile snubs.

I'd like to see freighters become smuggling ships either by something simple like freighter only docking points or something more complicated like masked cargoholds.

I like this topic, freighters are cool ships but just like super heavy fighters they are not of much use in a fight, a bomber can kill them easy with a snac. As smuggling ships they are perfect, and if they do implement those docking points they would have a lot of use.

Now my suggestion is old and crazy but i think it's necessary for the good of the mod:

Remove SNACs

Yeah, the only reason why bombers can kill even a CAU8 freighter is because of the SNAC.

Perhaps buff the hull so that a decently armored freighter (CAU6-CAU7) can survive a direct hit from a SNAC.

Maybe raise their cores and thrust speeds.

Also, as for Remove SNACs...not everyone can aim them, and a good freighter pilot knows how to make a Bomber miss Wink

Let them thrust or impulse slightly faster and do the same to Light Fighters. They already cruise faster so why not this?

Actually it's quite hard to SNAC good freighter.
It's nearly impossible if said freighter is camara.
