Suggestion: "Modules digging" for the Hegemon - Piombo65 - 04-30-2014 The Hegemon has the arms of excavation that are never used while driving. How about if we could enable those modules that could be connect to an asteroid in an asteroid field so getting a "bonus resources collected per second"? The vanilla and Discovery mining mechanics also aren't associated with any information about a ship's model, so there isn't any way to get a mining bonus associated with a model animation. In order for Hegemons to mine large asteroids, we'd basically have to create a new subset of the mining system just to manage that, which isn't really the most effective use of our time in the near future. It was looked into but as Echo has already mentioned; making moving components to player ships is an incredibly difficult concept. We tried looking into making the arms an attachable weapons slot but it only served to disappoint in terms of what the aim was compared to the end result. The answer to the question is yes. It can be done with an enormous amount of time and effort and perhaps restructuring the game physics. But another question is, would it be worth it? Most devs say no.
